As the finale of No Escape begins, Kitty (Rhianne Barreto) begins to worry about Denny (Sean Keenan) so she grabs the knife. Aaron (Jay Ryan) tries to unlock the door when he hears what is going on. Kitty says they need to call the police and get to shore now. Once Aaron comes into the room, he confesses to killing Joseph. Aaron takes the knife before asking Denny what is up with the gun. Denny claims he cleaned up after Aaron’s mess with Helen. He explains that Aaron left her pregnant and dead after she overdosed so he had to fix it. Aaron gets mad before grabbing Denny and yelling for him to tell the truth. Denny says he cleaned up the mess his junkie arse left.

He asks Aaron who he thought was there for her. Denny claims Aaron ignored her so she was lonely and took an overdose. They end up fighting. Denny grabs the knife and slashes Aaron’s arm. Aaron chokes him on the ground until Denny cuts his throat. Kitty escapes the room and locks the door. In the present, Colonel Justin Reyes (Jake Macapagal) says their theory was that Navarro had tipped someone off about the drop point for the ransom. Lana believes it was Denny since he used her to steer them to the ransom drop point. Reyes says he might act ruthlessly to cover his tracks. He is out of his jurisdiction and the Australian police aren’t his friends.

In order to make him tell the truth, Reyes needs something to prove The Blue was involved in what happened in Bulakan. If Lana helps, Reyes can get her to the Philippines as a witness. After she testifies, she can likely slip away. Lana has evidence, but she needs to go back to the house. When she gets back, she tells Denny that she couldn’t sleep. He urges her to come back to bed. On The Blue, Heinrich (Elmo Anton Stratz) asks Kitty what is going on. She tells him to watch the door. Kitty says he just killed Aaron before yelling for Michelle (Colette Dalal Tchantcho) who is wearing headphones. Kitty tries to use the radio to get help. Denny holds his brother’s body. Heinrich asks Denny what is happening through the door.

Denny tells him that Kitty cut Aaron who is unconscious. Heinrich opens the door and questions whether Denny murdered Aaron. Denny denies it. He ends up chasing Heinrich down and stabbing him while Heinrich yells for Kitty. A desperate Kitty manages to get in touch with another vessel. Denny comes up looking for her seconds later. Michelle continues preparing food. Denny blames everything on Kitty. He wishes she had just killed herself. Michelle interrupts with the gun and tells Denny to get away from her. He denies that he did it before Michelle makes him get on his knees. Michelle tells Kitty to get the inflatable lifeboat. Once Kitty puts the boat in the water, Michelle tells Denny to get down there and get in it.

He tells her that she is killing him, but Michelle says they’re not safe while he is on the boat. Denny’s boat floats away seconds later. In the present, Lana wakes up thinking about Kitty. Reyes calls someone to say he needs more time, but he believes he’ll have them in a few more hours. Denny tells Lana that his parents have gone away so they have the place to themselves. He thinks they need to get serious here. Denny just wants to get out of there. When Lana says they don’t have any money, Denny asks about the diamonds. Lana says no because they’re on The Blue. They were causing so much trouble so she hid them in the storeroom. When they leave, they’re followed by Reyes.

Denny thinks they can get on The Blue and get the diamonds. When Lana refuses to go with him, Denny warns her that he knows what she has done. Lana points out Denny to a cop and says he looks a bit dodgy. Denny jumps over the police tape and approaches the yacht while Lana walks away. She gets into a vehicle with Reyes and says she had to get rid of him. On The Blue, Michelle wakes Kitty when she sees another boat nearby. She learns that the autopilot has been shifted so they’ve been circling this whole time. Kitty notices that the inflatable boat is still tied to The Blue. When she turns around, Denny is pointing a gun in her face. In the present, Chief Inspector Sarah Craven (Susie Porter) questions Denny about sneaking onto The Blue.

He says it is his brother’s boat and he was looking for his watch since he would want him to have it. Sarah tells him to cut the crap because he is lying about something. When she admits he isn’t being charged, Denny says he’d like to go home. Lana takes Reyes to the fish tank so they can retrieve the locker key. She notices that he has a tattoo like the murdered drug dealer. Lana believes Reyes works for them. Reyes claims Lana and her people came to his country and messed everything up. He asks who will put right what she did. Reyes doesn’t want to do this, but he also doesn’t give the orders. The BLF makes his country bleed. If he doesn’t do what they say, his family will die and his son will die. He blames everything on them taking the diamonds.

Reyes hears something so he begins looking around. He is knocked out by Denny. Lana believes Denny set everything up with Navarro and the diamonds. She wants to know what happened to Kitty. Lana questions whether he killed Kitty. Denny says he didn’t kill her and she is still alive. Lana says she is going to die out there so they need to tell the police. Denny knocks the phone out of her hands so she can’t contact them. He smashes it while she goes upstairs. Denny follows her up and begins smashing stuff. Lana manages to lock him out on the balcony. On The Blue, Michelle yells for Denny to stop it and to give her the gun. He shoots her. Kitty lays over her to protect her before Denny empties the spent casings.

He goes into the cabin area. Kitty tries to help Michelle escape The Blue. Denny retrieves more bullets. Michelle jumps into the water and tries to get on the inflatable boat. As Denny approaches, Kitty releases the boat so Michelle can float away. Kitty tells Denny that he is going to need someone to sail with him to Townsville. In the present, Lana tries to check on Reyes who isn’t where he fell. Denny jumps from the balcony and looks at Lana. Before long, he begins chasing her out of the house. Once he corners her, Denny begins blaming her for everyone that happened. He claims they’re the same and he saw it straight away. Lana throws him off the balcony to the rocks and water below. She almost falls but clings to the rail.

Susie and a police officer arrive and pull her to safety. Lana confesses that her name is not Emma. Denny’s body is shown floating in the water. Lana says Sandra hated her from the moment she came to live with her, but Kitty made her feel wanted and loved. They looked after one another. After Sandra fell, Lana knew she couldn’t let Kitty take the blame so they ran away. Denny’s body is pulled from the water. Lana believes she is responsible for whatever happened to Kitty. Sarah says they think Denny shot up The Blue and disposed of any evidence that pointed to him. Once he was happy with the way everything was set up, he set The Blue on a course to Townsville. Reyes washes the blood off his face.

Denny got into the tender and waited to be rescued. Lana wonders why he took Kitty’s phone. Sarah believes it was a souvenir or he was going to use it to find Lana. Reyes calls someone to remind them about the bad possibility. He tells Mariel to leave right now because they have to. Lana is told she’ll get a phone call if she is under arrest. She calls Reyes to tell him he was right. She wants to end it to prevent anyone else from getting hurt. Lana tells him where to find the diamonds and says there is something for Joseph’s sister there as well. Sarah tells Lana that there is another survivor. Reyes gets the contents of the locker. Lana is taken to Michelle who remembers telling Kitty to jump from the yacht. Kitty tells Denny that she just wants to be with Lana and no one will know what he has done.

She tries to stab Denny, but he grabs her arm and stops her. Then, he shoots her and throws her into the water. Michelle tells Lana what happened and how Kitty saved her life. Lana says she saved her life too. Lana is taken away in a police car. On the beach, Lana tells Kitty she doesn’t think she would’ve survived the Sandra stuff without her. Kitty says they’re connected by the tattoos anyway. She’ll always be there for her.

 

No Escape Review

The finale of No Escape wrapped up the story without leaving any doors open. In that regard, the series did a good job since there is no need for any episodes and viewers don’t need to try to guess what happened. Sean Keenan did well as the psycho killer in the latter half of the episode although there could’ve been more room for the cast to show its true potential.

Certain things could’ve worked out better, especially Lana effortlessly throwing Denny from the balcony. It happened too easily and the special effects were bad even if that scene only lasted a second. The series was a little shallow because it was difficult to become genuinely caring for any of the characters including Lana and Kitty.

There weren’t any startling twists at the end that really made the finale stand out from the episodes before it. Truthfully, No Escape was a typical drama plagued by an unnecessarily long runtime, beautiful scenery, and a decent story. While watchable, the series never did enough to distinguish itself from other mediocre titles in this genre.
