As the fourth episode of No Escape begins, Lana (Abigail Lawrie) hangs out with Kitty (Rhianne Barreto) and Michelle (Colette Dalal Tchantcho) on The Blue. Kitty takes the food up to Aaron (Jay Ryan) and the others while Lana tells Denny (Sean Keenan) that she can’t stop thinking about that guy. Lana is worried that they won’t be able to see the diamonds in Palau, but Denny says they’ll keep trying. He believes the others will be fine. Lana admits she hasn’t told Kitty because she thinks it is best to keep it between them. Once they sell them, Denny believes they can be together properly. There will be no more sneaking around although Lana says that is half of the fun.
They go up and join the others who don’t seem happy to see them. Denny tries to apologize. Heinrich (Elmo Anton Stratz) still isn’t happy. Joseph (Narayan David Hecter) thinks they should be more concerned about the boy who died. Denny agrees with Joseph and blames himself for everything that went down in Balaki. Joseph argues that Denny regularly breaks the rules and is never punished for it. When they get into a fight, the others quickly break it up. Joseph discloses that they’re having sex right under their noses. He thinks Denny should receive expulsion. Joseph wants a vote on it. Aaron says it is a good idea although Lana says he must be joking. The final vote comes down to Aaron who agrees to give Denny one last chance.
That upsets Joseph who ends up calling him a weak hypocrite. Aaron agrees and says he should toughen up before telling Joseph to get off his boat. He thinks Joseph won’t stop until he has turned each of them against one another. They’re interrupted when Heinrich realizes there is a boat following them. Aaron checks and confirms it is heading straight at them. They worry it could be the guys from Balaki. Everyone begins working to escape the boat. Aaron loans the gun and puts it in his pants. They attempt to lose the boat that is following them. They see a small passage and try to squeeze through it. As they pass through, they end up scraping the bottom of the boat. Then, they attempt to tuck the boat out of sight.
The gang members learn that some fishermen saw a boat heading to Silakbo Island so they leave. Kitty tells Lana that they need to get the heck off this boat. In the present, Emma calls Kitty’s phone because she wants to hear her voice. She looks at the diamonds again before putting them back in her bag. Chief Inspector Sarah Craven (Susie Porter) looks at the message on the boat. Colonel Reyes (Jake Macapagal) interrupts to ask if she has looked at the De La Cruz file. Sarah says it was a rich kid murdered in Balakid with possible organized crime involvement. The Blue happened to be in port at the same time. Reyes wants to speak to Emma about their movements, but Sarah says Emma Anderson is not a witness. Sarah reminds him he is in Australia so she’ll decide who speaks to who.
She doesn’t think he is telling her everything about what happened in Balakid. Until he does, she wants him out of her crime scene. As Reyes leaves, he overhears a woman asking for help. She tells him that it is her brother Joseph Melina and he was on the boat they found. In the past, Heinrich works on the yacht while Aaron finds the quickest route out of the Philippines. Michelle worries they’ll run into a storm, but Aaron hopes they’ll be able to avoid the worst of it. Michelle says they could turn themselves into the police. Aaron doesn’t think that is a good idea since there are two dead bodies connected to their boat. Kitty tells Lana they should get off the boat and take their chances like they always do.
She hopes Lana doesn’t want to hang around on the boat because of Denny. Michelle informs them of a crew meeting upstairs. Lana tells Kitty to trust her about needing to stay on The Blue. Aaron tells everyone that they need to set sail as soon as the tide comes up because the gang will come back. He wants to head directly to Palau. Aaron still wants Joseph to get off his boat. If anyone doesn’t like it, they’re welcome to join him. In the present, Emma packs some stuff and prepares to leave only to be confronted by Reyes. He explains that there is a theory that her friends on The Blue were attacked by Filipino pirates. Emma only knows what she heard and can’t say why they would’ve been targeted.
She has already told the Australian police what she knows. Reyes reminds her that she never mentioned Joseph Melina during her conversations with them. In the past, Joseph packs his stuff so he can leave. He tells Kitty it is time to say goodbye. He says they might get away from the boat, but they’ll never get away from the boy’s death. Kitty admits she can’t leave without Lana. Joseph believes Aaron will destroy them all. He believes someone needs to tell Lana there are certain things you can’t outrun. Michelle takes Joseph away from The Blue moments later. In the present, Reyes tells Emma that Joseph planned to meet his sister in Townsville but never arrived. Emma denies that they sailed on the boat together at the same time.
Reyes can prove otherwise because Joseph sometimes sent photos to his sister. He met them both at a funeral for a boy whose death he is investigating. Back on The Blue, Kitty tells Lana that she always trusts her when she says she should. She believes they’re trapped and Lana is ticked off because she voted against Denny. They argue with Kitty saying Lana always runs away from her problems. Lana claims she had to do that to survive her. Kitty asks why she can’t say her name before saying she took her in when her mom left her. She wonders why she is the only one who keeps having nightmares about what they did. Lana claims she was a nightmare and abusive although Kitty argues that she treated her fine. Lana accuses her of throwing herself at everyone because she is so desperate.
Denny tells them that Aaron wants everyone on deck. They’re ready to go. Aaron warns them it’ll get very rough. He searches for something in his cabin. Reyes suspects there is a good reason Emma is lying to the search and rescue team although she denies lying. He thinks she is scared. Reyes wants her to understand that she can trust him so he won’t show the photo to the Australian police yet. He thinks the friends in the photo are still alive and she is the key to solving the mystery. Reyes gives her a card for when she is ready to talk. Emma goes to bed and cries alone. In the past, the crew tries to sail through the storm. Michelle has to comfort Kitty before they hear calls for help. Before long, they begin worrying that the boat is going to sink.
Aaron blames Heinrich, but Michelle reminds him it was his call to sail into the storm. They find the leak and try to deal with it. On the deck, one of the crew nearly goes overboard. Denny grabs Heinrich and tries to prevent him from falling into the water. With Aaron’s help, they manage to pull him to safety. Denny blames Aaron since it was his decision to sail into the storm. Kitty and Lana work together to pump the water out of the yacht. Heinrich uses Ketamine after hurting his leg. In the present, Emma looks at Joseph’s sketches and the card Reyes gave her. The crew makes it through the storm. Lana wants to talk to Denny who says they can talk later. Kitty offers Lana coffee only to be told she is good. Kitty asks Michelle if she can sit with her for a bit.
While sitting together, Kitty ends up kissing Michelle and they make out. Emma goes to the police station where she sees Reyes with Joseph’s sister. She is told they’ve got a survivor. Emma is taken to Denny. She asks him about Kitty and the others. Denny says he couldn’t stop it and they’re all dead. Joseph is shown walking around the boat with a knife.
No Escape Review
The fourth episode of No Escape ramped up the action and provided more revelations than the previous episodes. Certain scenes were a little iffy since it was difficult to follow everything that was going on during the storm. The pacing is still a problem although it didn’t seem as painful in this episode. It feels like the series would’ve hit harder if the story had gotten to the point much sooner instead of dragging everything out to create a longer series.
The series is watchable although it can be a chore to get from point A to point B and I am not confident that the payoff will be adequately satisfying. The gorgeous scenery never gets old and the character relationships are dynamic. That alone is enough to make No Escape a decent watch. This episode scores a 6 out of 10.
