As the episode begins, Karl D’Branin (Eoin Macken) mourns for Agatha (Gretchen Mol). Her body is released into space. After the intro, we see that Rowan (Angus Sampson) is on house arrest. He sees a bee and has a flashback of Tessia. Karl and Rowan see strange objects outside their respective windows. Auggie (Brian F. O’Byrne) returns to Cynthia (Josette Simon) who has taken over Lommie’s body. She is happy that he has stopped the ship. He tells her that it is nearly time to go back home. Cynthia promises that they can be together soon. She urges Auggie to finish the repairs soon. Murphy (Phillip Rhys) interrupts. He lets Auggie know that it is none of his business. Melantha (Jodie Turner-Smith) visits Roy’s (David Ajala) body and asks him who he was.
She confesses that she loved him. Mel turns around and is surprised by Cynthia. It seems to be Lommie (Maya Eshet) sending Mel a warning. Mel takes the news to Karl. Lommie interrupts. Cynthia sees herself in a reflection. She tries to calm Karl and Mel. She suggests going back now because people have died and the ship has been damaged. Mel isn’t ready to give up on the mission just yet. Karl suggests using Thale (Sam Strike) again, but Mel is worried that it could kill him. Karl decides to speak with Rowan. Mel warns him that Rowan cannot be trusted. Cynthia decides to watch some of her memories. She imagines Auggie disobeying her orders and killing her. Karl speaks with Rowan. Karl tells him about Agatha and he begins weeping.
Rowan claims that Agatha did it to release Thale from the psychic feedback. He also claims that Agatha did it for Karl. Rowan reveals he has been studying the Volcryn. He speaks about their shift in morphology. He claims it might be a sign that they want to communicate. He wants to help. Karl releases Rowan. Crews work to clean up Agatha’s blood. Mel watches them work. She notices that the camera is flickering. She returns to Roy’s body and asks him where he is. Roy wakes up. He tells her about the door. She uses her eyes to try to open the door, but her access is denied. Murphy gives Auggie an update. Cynthia interrupts and requests to speak to him. She claims that the Volcryn has infected them. She is not sure that returning to Europa would be a good idea. She encourages him to disable the cooling systems.
Cynthia wants to blow up the ship to kill the Volcryn. They can escape on a pod. Rowan tells Karl about his theory. They look for Thale. He punishes Rowan. Thale requests to speak with Karl alone. They’re transported outside of the ship. Thale explains that he has gotten all of the Teke since Agatha left and that has made him stronger. He confesses that he can hear the Volcryn and they’re waiting for us. He tells Karl that Cynthia is still on the ship. Karl realizes that she has taken over Lommie’s body. Thale tells Karl he should use Cynthia’s escape pod to get to the Volcryn. Mel takes Roy’s eye and uses it to open the door. Murphy finds Auggie messing with the ship. Auggie tells him to go back to his station. He claims that he’ll fix the thrusters. Auggie tries to relieve him of his duties. Murphy realizes that there aren’t going to be any more shifts. Auggie kills him.
Mel looks through the room. She finds an alien looking creature locked in a tube. It seems to be Roy. Cynthia interrupts and claims that they were made for each other. She calls them mistakes and genetic freaks. Cynthia tells Mel all about Lommie being locked away. Roy is a cross-sex clone of herself. Cynthia reveals that Mel is Roy’s sister in a way. She makes it clear that the end is near. Mel hears the warning on the computer. Thale tries to guide Karl in the right direction. The crew on the ship works quickly to fix the problem. Karl finds the escape pod. Cynthia appears behind him. Thale cannot warn him before Cynthia hits him in the back of the head. Karl gets the best of her. He frees her so he will not kill Lomie’s body. Karl gets into the launch pod on his own and claims he is going home.
Cynthia tries to stop it from launching, but cannot. The pod seems to fly towards the Volcryn. Rowan and Mel watch him go. Rowan tells her that they need to save the ship. Cynthia tells Auggie about Karl taking the pod. She tells him that the pod was made for one person. He has Lommie locked in her room. Mel stops Auggie from committing suicide. She wants him to help fix the problem. Rowan and Mel come up with a plan to save the ship. Karl gets closer to the Volcryn. Mel and Rowan enlist Thale’s help. He doesn’t believe they’ll have time. He manages to connect with Lommie. Mel tells her to shut down the ship so they can restart it. Everyone gathers in the mess hall to prepare for the ship’s shutdown. They huddle together in hopes of staying warm. Cynthia’s door opens.
She steps out and the system shuts down. Karl seems to return home. Joy and Skye are there to greet him. We see the probe and it is now empty. Only Karl’s bracelet remains behind.
Nightflyers Review
Nightflyers is very complex and difficult to understand at times. It definitely leaves the viewer to think things through. I am still not sure what the finale was all about. Nevertheless, I did find it very entertaining. There were plenty of revelations, but the ending left more questions than answers. I know the show hasn’t gotten good reviews elsewhere. Still, I would like to see it continue. I am indeed eager to see where things go from here. It is a Syfy show and you have to go in with lower expectations. I am not a huge fan of science fiction shows, but the series has grown on me.
I would watch a second season. Hopefully it gets one. The finale was interesting yet tough to understand. It scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Nightflyers now.

THanks for all the reviews
No problem. Thanks for the thanks! đŸ™‚
Thanks for making a difficult series to follow easier to understand. Wouldn’t have had a clue what’s going on without your reviews! You could say I still don’t but cheers nonetheless
You think you’re clueless? I still have no clue what the heck happened! hahaha
