NBC News has unveiled its new week-long series, “Kids Under Pressure”. The series, which is set to debut today, will cover the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on student well-being and academic engagement. TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and a team of NBC News anchors and correspondents will analyze the toll of the pandemic on high school students.
The original week-long report will air across TODAY, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, NBCNews.com, StayTuned, and NBC News Now. The network-wide initiative is driven in part by new data from a groundbreaking study conducted by the network in partnership with nonprofit Challenge Success.
Savannah Guthrie will speak with high school students in Tuscon, Arizona, and other schools about their academic stress and mental health. The anchor will also conduct a round-table with female students since the study showed girls were more impacted than boys. Senior national correspondent Kate Snow will spotlight a Texas school attempting to helping students deal with schoolwork which is a major source of stress according to the study.
Correspondent Gadi Schwartz will analyze the pandemic’s impact on minority communities while focusing on the rising stress levels among Latino and Hispanic students. Rehema Ellis’s report follows a group of high school students from the start of the year. They agree that they’re more stressed and less engaged with their schoolwork, teachers, and friends.
