This week, BBC announced additional casting for its hit anthology series Showtrial which is written and created by Ben Richards and made by World Productions for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The new series of Showtrial will feature a new cast and a gripping new murder investigation. The story will focus on Officer X, who is a policeman accused of murdering a climate change activist.
As announced previously, series two will star Adeel Akhtar, Nathalie Armin, and Michael Socha. BBC announced this week that Francesca Annis, Joe Dempsie, Nina Toussaint-White, Zoe Telford, Fisayo Akinade, Tom Padley, Kerrie Hayes, Ali Khan, Daniel Kendrick, Frankie Wilson, Anna Prochniak, Anna Wilson Jones, John Light, Aidan McArdle, Daisy Badger, Flora Montgomery, Pearce Quigley, John Marquez, Anna Healy, and Barney Fishwick would be joining the cast.
Showtrial Series 2 Story
Showtrial covers the hit-and-run death of high-profile climate activist Marcus Calderwood and the subsequent pursuit of justice. Calderwood spends his dying moments identifying his killer who happens a serving policeman. Who exactly is the unnamed Officer X? What does the officer’s history reveal about trauma and revenge? More importantly, was Marcus murdered in cold blood or was it really an accident?
Series 2 of Showtrial will take viewers through each step starting with the victim’s last breath and ending with the jury’s verdict. Public outrage will reach a fever pitch as the series begins to question whether a fair trial is possible when tensions are so high. The newest series of Showtrial will feature five sixty-minute episodes.
Showtrial Series 2 Characters
Michael Socha plays Justin Mitchell who is described as a charismatic, cocky police officer.
Adeel Akhtar is Sam Gill. The anxious defense solicitor has a knack for winning cases that are considered lost causes.
Nathalie Armin is Leila Hassoun-Kenny, the CPS lawyer in charge of the case against the accused.
Where Is Showtrial Series 2 Filmed?
According to BBC’s latest press release, Showtrial is filming now in and around Belfast. The series is produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen in association with ITV Studios which will handle international distribution.
