This week, TEGNA Inc. announced it had acquired Locked On Podcast Network, which is a leading podcast network focusing on local sports. Locked On produces daily podcasts for every team across the four major professional sports leagues and more than 30 college sports programs.
TEGNA will use the acquisition of Locked On to expand its presence in the quickly growing podcast market. President and CEO of TEGNA, Dave Lougee, commented, “Local communities are at the heart of what we do, and nothing brings communities together like local sports.”
“We look forward to growing the Locked On network through collaboration with our local stations, including the potential for video simulcasts of shows, and further increasing distribution, engagement and monetization of these fan favorite podcasts.”
Locked On was founded in 2016. Today, it produces more than 160 podcasts while providing comprehensive coverage of every NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL team. In addition to this, it covers many major college sports teams. The podcast network publishes more than 600 podcast episodes each week and generates eight million listens each month.
In 2020, Locked On podcasts were downloaded more than 80 million times. It also produces league-wide daily podcasts for fantasy sports, sports betting, the NFL draft, and more. Locked On will continue operating as a standalone business within TEGNA. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Keep up with Reel Mockery News to learn about industry changing news first!
