As the episode begins, Les Norton (Alexander Bertrand) strolls down the street and speaks with a few ladies. Eventually, he makes his way back to the Kelly Club and joins Billy (Hunter Page-Lochard) and Eddie (Justin Rosniak). Price Galese (David Wenham) and Georgie (Pallavia Sharda) tell the guys about their financial troubles. They’re ordered to go out there and collect money that Price is owed. Ultimately, Les Norton is sent after Tony Levine (Aaron Glenane). Price tries to convince Georgie that everything is going to be fine. Before Les leaves, he visits Price’s house. He finds out that Price is married to Chenille (Susan Prior).
Dolores (Rebel Wilson) and Arthit (Benhur Helwend) speak about their next move. Dolores suggests buying into the network instead of building it from the ground up. Ray pays a visit to Thumper (Steve Le Marquand). She thanks him for sending Emily Gold (Syd Zygier) around to bring the ticket. Thumper decides to deal with it. He teaches Emily how to deal with a ticket for a friend. The crumbles it up and throws it in the garbage. Les visits his buddy Reg (Sam Parsonson). We learn that Reg is an artist. He likes to paint animals and such. However, the paints are expensive and he cannot afford them.
During this time, we see that Emily has been keeping evidence against Price and the others. She goes to the handball arena and tries to track down more evidence. She speaks with Gary (George Xanthis) briefly. He tells her how the handball arena was built. It replaced an old fishing shack. Some of the pre-existing structure was used for the arena. Later that night, Reg and Les get high on weed. Reg tells him that the hills are full of this stuff but his is better. They party through the night. Dolores pays a visit to The Minister (Rhys Muldoon). She tries to get him on her side by giving him a bag full of money.
Meanwhile, Reg and Les speak about Tony. Les manages to track him down pretty quickly. He tells Tony that he needs to get Price’s money. Tony acts like he will get the money for them later. Les calls Price a few moments later. He speaks with Georgie and tells her that Tony is going to get the money later. She reminds him that he needs to be back soon. Meanwhile, Eddie and Billy harass a man in a barber shop. Les spots a woman strolling by and decides to follow her into the woods. He ends up falling and getting injured. He finds some weed plants before the woman, Betty (Jess Bush), comes to his aid.
She reveals that she is a vet so she decides to pop his shoulder back into place. Betty and Les decide to go for a drink together. When they make it back to Les’ car, he makes up a lie about borrowing it from a city worker. Then, they decided to go see the Big Banana together. They go to the beach for some alcohol. Eddie and Billy seem to be getting a lot more done. Les and Betty find themselves in a pub drinking alcohol. Tony shows up and asks Les to visit him in the bathroom. Les is confronted by two men with guns. He learns that Tony has no intention of paying Price. Les tries to convince him that he should but he doesn’t put up much resistance.
Les lets Price know. In return, he is told to man up and get the job done. He has to get his hands dirty sometimes. Price tells Les to get the money or he’ll have to come and get it himself. Les tells Betty that he isn’t going away just yet. She offers him out to the disco where her sister works. She takes him to a spot nearby so they can watch the fireflies. Les returns to Reg’s house and convinces him to go to the disco with him. They run into the bouncer at the door and he seems like a jerk. They meet up with Betty and her sister Diane (Alex Malone). They sit down and begin enjoying themselves. It appears that Reg and Diane are getting along just fine.
Soon, the bouncer Dwayne (Matthew Vautin) interrupts again. We learn that Diane dated him a few times but no longer. It appears that he is very controlling. Soon, they begin dancing. Dwayne becomes upset with he spots Reg kissing Dwayne. Les gets involved and Dwayne punches him. Les teaches him a lesson but he upsets Betty in the process. He tries to be nice to her and smooth things over. She isn’t having it. He takes her home and storms inside a short time later. Les goes back to his friend’s place and falls asleep. He has a nightmare in which Price steals Betty and Emily intends to arrest him. Emily ends up shooting him in the end and he wakes up.
Les decides to do something about the Tony situation. He grabs a shovel and heads out into the night. Reg wakes up and learns that Les stole the weed plants. Unfortunately, they’re not any good. They contain a lot of seeds and must be mixed with male plants. Nevertheless, Les manages to convince Tony to buy the weed so he can resale it. Les gets the money he needs to pay off Price and he buys Reg some paint. Les prepares to drive home but he doesn’t. He pays Betty a visit and tells her the truth about everything. She accepts his apology and they get romantic in the bedroom. When Les leaves, Betty gives him her number.
During this time, Tony finds out that the weed is worthless and we see how Reg and Les created it together. Les returns the money to Price and they share a drink. Price wants to know what Les did to Tony but he doesn’t get an answer. Price gets a call, Georgie enters, and Les leaves. Price learns that someone took something. Thumper tells him that the roulette wheel was taken by customs. He was able to keep Price’s name out of it but that is all he could do. Price learns that they’re going to burn it. Thumper hangs up the phone and we see that he is in bed with Dolores. They laugh about Price. Dolores says that there is only one thing worse than not having any pull and that is not having any pull anymore.
On his way out, Thumper runs into the Minister. Thumper says that it was tough luck for Price with the roulette wheel. The Minister pretends he doesn’t know what he is talking about with a smirk on his face. Thumper learns about an internal affairs investigation going on. The Minister gets one of the girls. Meanwhile, Price complains about the wheel. Georgie tries to convince him that everything will be fine. Les returns home and believes he might have found himself the one. He receives a call from Emily a few seconds later. Emily invites him over for dinner. He looks at Betty’s phone number and becomes distracted. Nevertheless, he has dinner with Betty moments later.
She tells him about her investigation into Doreen Bognor. Emily tries to get information from Les before asking him if he wants to watch a video. It is clear that she suspects he knows more though. She puts on the video she took from Doreen’s house. It is the video of Les visiting Doreen’s house earlier in the season. Les becomes concerned. Emily wants him to explain things. Les says that it is a funny story. He tries to explain things away by pretending it was Dolores and not Doreen. Les questions how she came to get the tapes in the first place. He believes she might be in trouble. In return, she says she is trying to help him. Les leaves soon after that. When he leaves, we see that the conversation was being recorded by someone else.
Les Norton Review
Les Norton has been entertaining since the first episode. This one was a tad bit slower but I enjoyed it. It moved the story forward significantly too. Les now knows that Emily is out to get him and Price. She is digging too deep and that could hurt her at some point. We also see that Dolores has managed to win over Price’s old comrades with money. She got the roulette wheel confiscated and Thumper and the Minister are now on her side. Things are going bad for Price but he doesn’t know it yet.
Will he wake up too late? Again, I didn’t read the books so I do not know how everything ends. I can’t wait to find out. This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Les Norton right now!
