Don’t Ever Say I Wasn’t There For You – As the second episode of Knuckles begins, Agent Mason (Scott Mescud) and Agent Willoughby (Ellie Taylor) arrive at the IceCap Ski Resort with Knuckles to meet The Buyer. Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) pulls up nearby and says he’s coming for Knuckles. He soon realizes he’s extremely unprepared for this. Knuckles (Idris Elba) wonders where they’ve taken him. In his imagination, Mason turns on the lights so Knuckles can see the room. Wade is busy trying to convince himself he can do this. Willoughby interrupts Mason and orders him to stop talking to Knuckles. Wade goes to a nearby store to buy supplies for the rescue. He returns to the resort and turns off the power.
Wade manages to take out Mason using motor oil. He’ll use a makeshift torch on Willoughby and escape with Knuckles. In reality, Wade is still in the store with the supplies. Willoughby tells Knuckles they haven’t gotten the chance to get to know each other. She knows all about his work. Willoughby asks if he thinks she’s nothing compared to the great Ivo Robotnik. She says he’s wrong and he knows nothing about her. When this is over, he will. Wade finally returns with the supplies. He turns on music on the Spotify app. Wade ends up causing a fire and blowing up the fireworks. He gets Mason and Willoughby’s attention. Wade tells them he’s there for Knuckles. He tries to use the power gloves, but he can’t get the hang of them.
Mason tells Willoughby to guard the echidna while he handles this. Wade hides from Mason who picks up the glove and puts it on. Mason spots him and goes after him. He tells Wade about his time in the underground fight game. Willoughby tells Knuckles it sounds like his rescue isn’t going well. Mason stops attacking Wade so he can take a call from his mom. After the call, Wade squirts hot sauce in Mason’s face. Wade ends up getting knocked through glass. Wade approaches Willoughby who is not impressed with him. She asks what Wade wants with Knuckles. Wade says they’re going to win a bowling tournament before shooting Knuckles’s cage freeing him. Then, Wade rides Knuckles to freedom. Knuckles warns him he only glides for short distances.
Wade ends up in a garbage can. Once Wade gets up, they steal a nearby pickup truck. Wade stops at a burger shack to get something to eat. Knuckles alleges he was taken prisoner because of Wade’s failures in battle. He says they only won because of luck. Wade’s dad taught him to take any win you can. Willoughby tells Mason they’ve been selling weapons to one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the world so there is no backing out. He will kill them if they show up empty-handed. Knuckles asks Wade why he remains in Green Hills. Wade says it has always been home. Knuckles hasn’t found anywhere to call home. He made a promise to his fellow warriors he wound find and protect the Master Emerald. Knuckles knows he’s been betrayed repeatedly.
Wade knows how that feels, but he’s strong enough to know he’d never betray a friend. In the car, they listen to Scorpions Rock You Like A Hurricane. They hear a news report about a manhunt for Wade. Knuckles destroys the radio. Later, Wade nearly falls asleep riding to Reno. He knows a place where they can lay low. He returns to his mom who is shocked to see him.
Knuckles Review
The second episode of Knuckles was watchable although the series isn’t spectacular for adults. The soundtrack has been enjoyable through two episodes. The relationship between Wade and Knuckles is really driving the episodes. It’s silly and not taking itself too seriously.
Parents can likely turn this on without having to worry about anything and the kids will most likely enjoy it. They’ll be able to overlook any of the show’s issues and get wrapped up in the silliness of the series. With the right audience, this can be a big hit.
