Killing It Season 2 Episode 8 Recap

Timber – The episode opens with two men arriving at Lil’ Piggies’ drive-thru and placing an order. The driver sees the free birthday shake promotion and orders a large vanilla. Attempting to keep a straight face, the driver’s buddy films the interaction. When Shayla (Melanie Field) confirms their order and requests his ID, the driver becomes belligerent. He loses it and insists on paying for the shake when she tells him that Lil’ Piggies now accepts EBT and Food Stamps. Receiving the shake, he claims to have ordered a strawberry and throws it in her face before speeding off. Stepping away to clean herself, Shayla overhears Jillian Glopp’s unmistakable accent (Claudia O’Doherty) at the window. Shayla yells to her manager that she’ll be taking her break.

Jackie Boone (Dot-Marie Jones) orders Jillian to pull around to the rear entrance. Jillian notes Ray-Nathan Boone’s truck (Joe Massingill) and asks if she wants to tie her up. Jackie denies the offer and encourages her not to let Ray-Nathan’s size, tattoos, or opiate problem scare her. Shayla secretly watches from her vehicle and makes a call. Donnie (Kale Clauson) questions why she’d call after causing so many problems at the garage. She proposes an opportunity for revenge if he can tell her how to steal a Kia.

In the strip club, Natalie Ray Boone (Katie Kershaw) accuses Ray-Nathan of trying to kill Jackie. He claims he was trying to stop her from getting them sent to jail. With Cousin Tyler running the sheriff’s station and him owing her from the hand job, she says there is no risk of that. He says that Tyler was fired for stealing drugs and crashing his cruiser into a synagogue. Interrupting, Jillian offers to phone an ambulance. Natalie insists on taking her, but Ray-Nathan snatches the keys, tosses them across the room, and accidentally sets off the car alarm. Laughing at his mistake, Ray declares he is the only one in the family thinking straight. Silencing the alarm, he suggests finishing Jackie off and starting fresh. Jackie not only tells Jillian to run but she grabs Ray’s leg and gives her a few minutes head start. Shayla has just managed to get the Kia started when Jillian joins her outside. Speeding away and turning to yell insults, she hits Ray.

Police Station – When they reunite, Jillian expresses great pleasure in hearing how her absence emotionally affected Craig Foster (Craig Robinson). She says it was the thought of him saving her that kept her going. Shayla interrupts their ensuing embrace by claiming to be the hero. Craig reminds her that she was in the middle of heisting Jillian’s car and accidentally running over a guy doesn’t mean she gets to play the hero. Jillian declares that Shayla can play hero because she saved her life. Craig thanks her for the rescue and at the encouragement of Jillian, extends the offer of reemployment. She goads him into weekly cleanings of the port-a-potty before he suggests leaving before Sheriff Boone shows up. Jillian stops to inform him of the sheriff’s firing. His question of what happens to them now stirs Jillian’s memory.

Visiting Jackie in prison, Jillian learns that she and Ray-Nathan have made up. She says that if her son really wanted to kill her, he would have attacked her with a brick rather than a bottle. Jackie expresses her high hopes that he’ll use his time behind bars to read a book or two. Jillian profusely apologizes when Jackie reveals that she’s been sentenced to 10 years. Jackie tells her not to worry about it because her recent cancer diagnosis provides the silver lining of free medical care. Before the conversation ends, Jackie insists on knowing why Jillian didn’t run from her when she had the opportunity. Jackie says she’s far too nice when she says it seemed like she needed someone around.

On The Road – Over the phone, Agent Burton (Timothy Simons) demands Isaiah Foster (Rell Battle) an explanation about Rodney Lamonca’s (Tim Heidecker) recent demotion. Isaiah confirms that he should have mentioned that just as he should have mentioned that he’s not going to be an informant anymore. A roaring, Burton points out that a criminal doesn’t get the benefit of deciding that before threatening to throw him behind bars. Isaiah says he’ll have to find him first, and Burton tells him that won’t be a problem with the FBI’s yearly $10 billion budget. Isaiah encourages his threats of activating all the interstate’s facial recognition cameras before abruptly ending the call and concealing his face with a mask.

Lamonca’s Residence – Prada Lamonca (Anna Mae Quinn) congratulates and signs Henry’s Farm over to Craig and Jillian. Rodney interrupts the meeting by telling Prada, he’s finished the report and sent it to her. Jillian asks how he can work for Prada after she betrayed him. Laughing it off, he says he couldn’t be prouder than to know the little killer came from his nuts. Plus, it allows him to wait for his chance to reclaim what’s his. Prada welcomes his challenge with insults before he departs.

Henry’s Farm – Jillian and Craig’s outdoor celebrations are cut short when Brock (Scott MacArthur) unexpectedly pops up in a full ghillie suit. Brock offers congratulations before revealing that he’s hired Dan Trovia (Mike Mitchell) to sue for his promised portion of the farm. In the Farm’s office, Dan claims to have undeniable proof that Craig promised a portion of the farm to Brock. He says that proof can go away if they sign a contract giving Brock his rightful 5%. While they continue to argue, Jillian shocks everyone by silently signing the contract. Craig requests a few minutes alone with Jillian where he demands to know what she’s thinking. She says that fair is fair and knows Brock wouldn’t have helped them unless he was getting something in return. He never admits to promising the 5% but says if he did, it was because he was stressed over her absence. In a mocking tone, Dan reveals he’s been recording their conversation from the trailer’s hatch. His and Brock’s taunting is cut short when he drops the phone and crashes to the ground after it. Craig erases the recording before calling 911.

Maya’s House – Isaiah’s hopes of a reunion with Maya (Fatimah Taliah) are dashed when he unexpectedly finds Caleb (Troy Ian Hall) there.

Green Bounty Organic Warehouse – When Jillian and Craig attempt to make another berry delivery, the rep (Brendan Jennings) pretends to want nothing to do with them. After quickly explaining the loss of their farm, the rep updates them on the recent phenomenon of saw palmetto berries becoming the go-to solution for prostate problems. Responding to a distant scream, a large snail is uncovered in the farm’s delivery. Craig attempts to play it off as harmless while Jillian reveals the truth and suggests burning the berries. Another distant scream reveals more snail sightings. The organics rep tells them to hold tight before they do anything as rash as burning the berries.

17 Minutes Later – Returning, the rep gives them the good news of speaking with corporate is still interested. Jillian asks if it is because they’ve found a way to counteract the potentially lethal snail side effects. His response is no but he promises to mention that to his superiors. He updates them on the company’s deal with a multinational company. That deal is now in jeopardy because their projected earnings came up short. They simply can’t afford to turn the berries away. Jillian steers the conversation back to people getting sick and vows they can’t sell the berries. Craig requests a moment alone with Jillian when the rep says they are prepared to bring them on as consultants with stock options.

Maya’s House – Isaiah attempts to wrap his head around losing Maya while he points out that she promised him two months. She says she shouldn’t have promised that and dotes on how Caleb has helped her in his absence. He uses his recent undercover work to explain he is a good guy. She voices her suspicions when he mentions the shark attack.

Green Bounty Organic Warehouse – A shocked Jillian confirms that Craig is considering the deal as he points out the opportunity they are being given. They won’t just be surviving until next year’s harvest; they’ll be set for life. She expresses her concerns over people dying and he explains that people cause so much harm by simply existing that the best anyone can hope for is to not think about it. She denies repressing bad thoughts and he asks her how she feels about the recent kidnapping. She says that it turned out to be a good experience and led her and Jackie to a closer relationship. She accuses him of changing and he says the only thing that’s changed is he now cares about her and wants to take care of her. She thanks him for saying that but won’t accept the deal.

Henry’s Farm – Jillian breaks the news that the farm will be filing for bankruptcy. Craig insists on burning the berries. Seconds later over the phone, he requests a meeting with an unknown source.

Parking Lot – The recipient is revealed to be Brock, who points out that he shouldn’t be talking to Craig without his lawyer. Craig reveals that he’s brought the contract although he hasn’t signed it yet. He adds that if he does sign it, he and Brock will be majority owners. Brock demands to know the catch and Craig says he’ll expect to be backed on certain decisions. Later they are shown making the delivery and getting their new contracts.

Two Months Later – From prison, Jackie watches a new report about an outbreak of meningitis sweeping across American hospitals in five different states. The CDC is linking the outbreak to the sale of over-the-counter supplements containing saw palmetto berries. Prada watches the report from a board room, Shayla watches it from Lil’ Piggies, and Jillian watches it while waiting on a fare. Isaiah watches it while on a flight to the Maldives, and Craig watches it from a posh Miami beachside apartment with Vanessa (Jet Miller) and Camille (Stephanie Nogueras).

 

Killing It Review

Not a terrible way to wrap up the season. There are certainly some interesting prospects should the show get renewed. Nathan attacking Jackie inside Carpets felt a bit rushed or maybe unexplained. One second she’s outside with Jillian and the next, she’s laying on the ground bleeding. It also felt like a big chunk when left off when Craig shows up at the station to get Jillian, although that one is more explainable. I did develop a better appreciation for the characters and that really says something about a series. As far as finales go, it felt like everything was wrapped up rather well. The episode earns an easy 5.4 out of 10.
