At the start of the episode, we see Louise (Heather Mitchell) with her husband Maurice (Patrick Frost). Francis has lost his final appeal. Louise gives her husband soup. She doesn’t eat hers. After the intro, Daniel (Ioan Gruffudd) asks Bryan (Damien Garvey) what happened. Daniel explains that he would have no reason to hurt Callan (Hunter Page-Lochard). Daniel tells him what happened. There is little Bryan can do to help. Daniel flees from the hospital. He runs into Stephanie (Anna Lise Phillips) and tells her that Fern (Ella Newton) has gone missing. He tells Stephanie to speak with Bryan.

Meanwhile, Grace (Jolene Anderson) tries to talk some sense into Maxine (Robyn Malcolm). However, Maxine isn’t willing to listen. She doesn’t believe the evidence would convince a jury. Grace learns that Daniel is in big trouble. Bryan tries to tell his boss what happened. She wants Daniel taken off the streets and brought in. She believes he has gone off the rails. Meanwhile, Daniel goes to the department of health. He obtains older documents regarding Francis Chester and his dental health. He obtains the name of his dentist when he was a young boy.

Maxine and Lyle (Darren Gilshenan) prepare to defend Daniel during the tribunal. Stephanie goes to Bryan. She urges him to do something but leaves flustered. Bryan visits Louise. She doesn’t answer the door. When he leaves, we see that Francis (Grant Bowler) has Fern held captive inside. Daniel visits the dentist. The man tells him about Francis Chester. Louise brought him there when he was very young. He wanted to be called Frank. Chester’s father punched him and knocked out his tooth. Frank begged the dentist to not make him return.

There was nothing he could do. Francis was sent back to his parents. Lyle defends Daniel during the tribunal. He confesses that Daniel did things he shouldn’t have. If he hadn’t killers would have gone free. Daniel sneaks in and meets with Grace. He gives her the dental evidence. The body in the morgue has a pretty healthy tooth where Chester doesn’t. After all, Chester’s father knocked it out. A staff member becomes suspicious. Glen checks on them. He tells Grace that Daniel saved his pet Fuzznuts. Glen takes care of it. He spots Harrow and says nothing. When they leave, Daniel receives a call from Chester.

Francis tells him that Fern is okay right now. Francis orders him to meet him outside of the institute. Daniel injects himself with BCHE. Then, he meets with Francis outside. They drive to Louise’s house. Along the way, Francis tells Daniel that he never used propofol. Grace passes the evidence along to Bryan. He claims someone planned the evidence in the liver. He blames Daniel. Lyle and Maxine learn that the tribunal has ruled against Daniel. He will no longer have a job. They arrive at Louise’s house. Daniel mentions the dentist, Harry Briggs (Marty Rhone).

Francis’ relationship with his mother is very awkward. Daniel encourages her to call the police and end it. Louise says it is too late. Daniel spots Fern and gets distracted. Francis injects him with a drug. Maxine goes through the evidence. She finds out that some of the test samples have gone missing. Grace confronts Maxine. She wonders why the brain tissue samples have gone missing. Grace tells her that she needs to admit to what she did. Daniel wakes up. Francis tells him that he gave him propofol. Now, he is going to get succinylcholine.

Francis tells Fern what happens when the drug is administered. Francis prepares to strangle Fern to death. Daniel wakes up and begins talking. He mentions the monkshood he spotted on the way in. He explains that Louise killed Maurice with it. He insists Francis wants to kill his father. He can’t because his mom already did. Francis becomes angry. Bryan goes through the surveillance footage from the hospital. He spots someone that catches his eye. Then, he sees cameras on the fire department helmets. He makes a call. While Francis is distracted with his mom, Daniel breaks free and goes for the weapon. He removes the gag from Fern’s mouth.

Francis is back in control but his mother has the gun. He claims he needed to kill his father. Francis takes the gun and shoots his mother dead. Daniel nearly frees Fern. The DNA results come back. It is confirmed that the body is not Chester’s. Bryan gets the fire department footage. He spots Francis Chester. Francis goes after Fern. She tells him that she knows how it feels for fear to turn into hate. She talks about her desire to kill her step-dad. Daniel took that chance away from her. Fern attacks Francis and gets away. She gets the gun. Daniel convinces her to hand it over to him. He doesn’t want to feel like he did after he killed someone. Daniel holds Francis at gunpoint until the police arrive.

Bryan lets Daniel speak with Francis. Daniel is in a tough spot. Francis knows that he has killed too. He says he will spread the word. Daniel pretends he isn’t worried. He gives Francis a rose for Simon before walking away. Bryan tries to make peace with Daniel. He isn’t worried. He suggests Bryan believed him all the while. Something goes wrong with Chester. We see that Daniel actually injected him while giving him the rose for Simon. Daniel hugs Stephanie before sitting with Fern. She confesses she wanted to kill him. Daniel confirms it is over.

Francis dies in the squad car. Maxine prepares to move out. Daniel enters and tries to stop her. Maxine admits she rigged the samples to ensure Francis went down. She admits she should have believed Daniel. He tries to convince her that Simon’s death isn’t her fault. Maxine wants to leave. Callan wakes up. Fern gets into bed with him. Grace visits Daniel at the boat. It seems that they’re going to get romantic. Grace stops that halfway through. She reminds him that he’ll be her supervisor again in weeks. Later, Daniel gets a call from Bryan. He is still suspended but Bryan has something important to show him. It is a young boy. The boy’s passport listed Daniel as the next of kin. He might be Daniel’s son.

 

Harrow Review

After this episode, I really like Harrow. I just wish every episode was like the last one and this one. I’ve said it time and time again. Harrow is at its best when it is focusing on the main storylines. This is the same thing that went down with Ripper Street. It nearly got canceled a few times because it tried to focus on a new case every episode. The main storyline was put on the back burner. When Ripper Street focused on the main story, it was 100 times better. Harrow could do the same.

Now is the time to make the transformation. Fans are only going to hang on so long. The cases are interesting but they’re holding back the genius hidden behind the countless autopsies. Stick on the main story and the show will be pure perfection. This episode proved it. It scores a solid 9 out of 10. Keep it up and Harrow can become a real Aussie hit!
