As the episode begins, Daniel Harrow (Ioan Gruffudd) tries to explain things to Bryan Nichols (Damien Garvey). Bryan has a hard time believing the story. More police arrive. Daniel opens the casket and finds a body inside. After the intro, Bryan wants to know why Francis (Grant Bowler) would bury him and dig him back up. Daniel explains that Francis didn’t get what he wanted. He was unable to kill Fern (Ella Newton). Daniel wants Bryan to speak with Fern. She is already at CIB. They rush there right away. Fern tries to get in touch with Callan (Hunter Page-Lochard). A paramedic grabs the phone before loading Callan into to ambulance.

At the station, Fern tells Bryan that Francis tried to kill her. Bryan decides to speak with her in private. Daniel chats with Stephanie (Anna Lise Phillips) before leaving the hospital. Fern takes Bryan to Daniel’s boat. She walks him through the events. Bryan searches the boat and finds drugs and several syringes. This convinces him that Daniel is self medicating. Fern tells Stephanie that Bryan believes Daniel is on drugs. Fern receives a call about Callan. Daniel goes to Grace (Jolene Anderson) to get a blood test. He believes that will prove he was drugged by Francis.

Maxine (Robyn Malcolm) learns about the test. She also tells Daniel about Callan. Maxine tells Grace that she wants to see the results when they come back. At the hospital, Daniel and Fern speak about her conversation with Bryan. Fern tells Daniel about the drugs. He is positive that they were planted. Bryan speaks with Doug and Maxine about Harrow. They plan to do nothing until it is positive that Harrow touched the body. Bryan also agrees to follow through with the exhumation. Bryan goes to Chester’s mother. She is not happy with the news that her son’s body is going to be exhumed. Still, there is nothing she can do to stop it.

Fern learns that the next 48 hours will be critical for Callan. She is allowed to see him. Stephanie believes they’ll be safe at the hospital. Daniel leaves and visits the boat. Meanwhile, Maxine and Bryan speak about Daniel possibly self medicating. The casket arrives. Maxine tells Grace and Lyle (Darren Gilshenan) that she wants it taken care of as quickly and quietly as possible. Daniel inspects the boat. Fern checks Callan’s phone. She notices that the last text he received as the picture of Francis. Edwina (Faustina Agolley), Grace, and Lyle discuss Francis Chester and his past deeds.

Lyle explains that Daniel and Maxine found the evidence to convict Francis. It almost didn’t happen. Harrow conducted new tests and found small amounts of propofol in the female victims. Maxine wonders if the shooting messed Daniel up. Bryan isn’t sure. Laurie Badcoe (Geoff Morrell) learns that Ronnie is quitting. The evidence seems to show that the body from the casket belongs to Francis Chester. Grace doesn’t believe it. She begins researching on her own. Maxine enters. She tells Grace that she doesn’t believe Daniel can come back from this. Grace just doesn’t understand why Daniel would lie and risk his job.

Grace the DNA samples on her computer screen. Maxine says that Daniel’s mistake was forging her signature and digging up Chester’s body. Daniel has a nightmare that Fern is in the morgue. He wakes up on the boat. Grace pays him a visit. She is surprised to see him holding the flare gun. Grace tells him the bad news. Daniel tries to convince her that he is telling the truth. When she leaves, Daniel goes outside and uses a payphone. He calls Laurie and tells him he needs to get down there. Bryan gets a report on Daniel’s phone. Only Daniel’s prints were found on the phone. He speaks with Grace about it.

Grace tells him there is one way to determine whether or not the body is Chester’s. She wants to test the DNA against the DNA from his arrest swab from 15 years ago. Bryan tells her to do it. Daniel gets a new phone. He calls Fern. They both lie about where they’re at. We see that Fern is visiting Callan’s place of work. The boss doesn’t want to speak with her about Callan or Frank. Before Fern leaves, she steals a document with Frank’s address. Laurie admits that the body might not have been Francis Chester’s. Daniel encourages him to tell the truth. Laurie doesn’t want to. It will ruin your life and they wouldn’t believe a drunk anyway.

Daniel makes him leave. Edwina and Grace work together on the body. They speak about Daniel before Lyle enters and joins them. He agrees to help too. Daniel goes to the hospital and asks Stephanie where Fern is. Stephanie believes she is at the motel. Daniel apologizes to Stephanie and admits he should have told her everything from the start. Fern visits the address. She finds that the land is for sale. Grace gets the results from the blood test. She shows Maxine. Daniel had high levels of propofol in his system. Maxine visits Daniel at the hospital. She tells him about the propofol. She takes the blame and suggests she shouldn’t have let him return to work so soon. She also accuses Daniel of self medicating.

Maxine tells him he is too good to throw away his career. She wants him to show up to the hearing and tell the truth. Daniel insists he is telling the truth. Fern goes to the restaurant again. She shows the boss a picture of Francis. He confirms that it is Frank. Daniel goes to the bathroom. When he does, an alarm is triggered in the hospital. Daniel finds Francis injecting Callan with drugs. They fight. Francis tells him that he can detain him or save Callan. Daniel begins working on the boy right away. Daniel manages to save Callan. Outside, Francis drugs Fern and the episode ends.

 

Harrow Review

Harrow is at its best when it focuses on the big storylines. This is why this episode was so good. It locked me in at the beginning and kept me there. I was eager to find out what was going to happen next every step of the way. There was no side autopsy to distract us from the Francis Chester storyline. I am sure the finale will be the same way. I suspected that Francis would eventually get to Fern one way or another.

I didn’t think Callan would die either. Now, it is up to Daniel to save Fern and uncover the truth. Will he be able to do that? I can’t wait to find out. This episode scores an 8 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Harrow before you leave!
