As the episode beings, things continue on as normal at the Wells brother. Kate Bottomley (Daisy Head) speaks with Justice Knox (Jack Greenlees). Anne (Ellie Heydon) speaks with Lydia (Lesley Manville). Anne is told she can offer tongue and hand until she recovers. In return, Anne wants to know why Lydia did not fight for her. She wants to be paid for spoiling her body to give Blayne a son. Meanwhile, Elizabeth, Fredo (Aidan Cheng), and Lucy (Eloise Smyth) find themselves in big trouble. The silk and money are gone. Lucy is convinced that Elizabeth isn’t Fredo’s mother. She wants to know the truth about them but she doesn’t get it. Next, Lydia finds Cherry (Francesca Mills holding a wooden sword.

It is an invite to an upcoming cricket game at Blayne’s place. Lydia becomes concerned because Kate is nowhere to be found. During this time, Kate says goodbye to the Justice and leaves. Hal (Ash Hunter) tries to sleep with Emily Lacey (Holli Dempsey). However, his past gets the better of him. He tells Emily that he is responsible for Charlotte’s death. He says that he turned red and killed her. Emily tries to convince him that it was Isaac’s fault. The debt collectors come for Elizabeth’s money. Elizabeth tells Fredo that she cannot go back to debtor’s jail. Hal tells Emily that they’re changing rooms and that Margaret did not kill Isaac alone. He wants to go after those who did.

Rosamund (Kirsty Curtis) continues blackmailing Emily. Lacey puts together a plan to get rid of Rosamund for good. Kate finally returns home and Lydia realizes that she is lying to her. She tells Kate that she needs to make a decision. If she wants to stay with her, she needs to stick with their plan. Kate agrees that she will do what she can to help them. Blayne (Julian Rhind-Tutt) speaks with Turner. He managed to convince Turner to lose Sophia in a gambling match and Turner agrees to do it. Emily takes Rosamund to Nancy (Kate Fleetwood) and tells her that Rosamund knows about the murder. Nancy and Fanny (Bronwyn James) agree to take her in. Nancy tells Emily that she needs to get away from Hal but she isn’t willing to listen.

Lucy goes to Lydia and tells her to stay away from her house. During this time, Lucy learns about the upcoming cricket game and promises to be there. Harriet (Pippa Bennett-Warner) and William (Danny Sapani) go to Justice Knox. They tell him that Lord Leadsom (Nicholas Burns) stole Jack and they want Knox to do something about it. There is very little he can do and they believe he just doesn’t care. Outside, William and Harriet agree to speak out about it. Croft goes to Lucy and tells her that Blayne is maneuvering in the House of Lords. He will be governor if they do not do something quickly. Lucy tells him that Blayne and her comrades wielded the knife but Lydia got the girl. She promises to testify about it too.

Meanwhile, Blayne tries to use his sway to get the prince to help him. Rosamund begins causing problems for Nancy and Fanny almost immediately. Lydia tells Cherry to take a letter to the commissioner of debt so they can arrest Lucy Wells. Harriet visits Hal and Emily. She gives them a poster for Jack and tells them about his disappearance. Hal sees an opportunity to offer her protection. Emily isn’t interested but Hal believes that is their best decision. Harriet has written a letter to the paper and she is surprised Leadsom hasn’t made a move yet. Nancy speaks with William about the burden of killing someone. Elizabeth arrives and interrupts their conversation. Elizabeth tells him about their troubles.

She tries to get a loan from him for Lucy but William refuses. He explains that Lucy will need to ask herself. Lady Isabella (Liv Tyler) speaks with her brother. She has received a letter from someone who has information about Sophia. Blayne wads it up and pretends it is nothing important. Before Isabella leaves, she grabs the baby and takes it with her. Kate and Lydia arrive for the cricket game. During this time, Fanny takes Rosamund into town. Unfortunately, Rosamund is too pushy and she doesn’t do very well with the men. Hal visits Harriet and Rani (Briony Scarlett). He offers them protection. They eventually come to an agreement. Harriet will pay him a coin in every ten. In return, Hal will offer her protection and help get back Jack.

Fanny argues with Rosamund on the way back home. Then, Fanny learns that she is being played by Nancy and Lacey. Cherry arrives and tells Nancy what she has done. She pleads with Nancy not to start a fight with Lydia. Isabella returns the baby to Anne and promises to keep her protected. Turner does what Blayne asked. However, Emily Lacey steps in and prevents the men from taking Sophia. Then, Emily finds out that Hal has started wearing his brother’s coat. She finds out that Rosamund has returned to the pub. At the cricket game, Kate begins scoring points with the prince. However, Lucy arrives and steals the spotlight. The authorities arrive to take Lucy away.

She steals a horse and makes a run for it. She goes to the brothel and speaks with Fanny. She explains that she doesn’t know what to do. William arrives a few seconds later. Lucy lets them know that it is Lydia’s doing. Lucy turns herself in outside a few moments later. Kate finally gets what she wants with the prince. Moments later, Blayne tells the prince that he’ll need to get her line. Elizabeth and Fredo decide to flee town. Knox and Croft believe that Lucy has abandoned them and lost her nerve. William learns about Elizabeth trying to escape. He tracks them down and prevents them from doing so. Hal goes to Lord Leadsom. He makes a plan with him with the intention of duping him and getting Jack back.

Nancy confronts Lydia and threatens to kill her. Harriet and William speak out about the human traffickers. Elizabeth and Fredo are to be watched by William’s guards. The Prince takes Blayne’s advice. He tries to dominate Kate but she isn’t having it. She pushes him off and slaps him. He tells her what Blayne said and she tells him she doesn’t care. She doesn’t want him to ever do that again. Knox goes to Lydia and tells her that he will get her if she is putting Kate in danger. Nancy and William visit Lucy at the debtor’s prison. It is clear that she needs to get out as quickly as possible. Nancy visits Isabella and learns about the baby. Knox visits Kate and gives her a kiss.

Knox tells her that Blayne is has been involved in rape and murder. He encourages Kate to come with him. Kate believes she can stop Blayne and she doesn’t want him to corrupt Henry. She doesn’t want a rescuer and believes she is the rescuer. She eventually pushes him away and heads back inside. Blayne goes to Isabella and tries to get the baby back. Isabella tries to her the baby to bargain for Sophia. Blayne doesn’t cooperate so he is escorted out moments later. Elizabeth goes to Croft and lets him know about Lucy being in debtor’s prison. She asks him to give a loan for Lucy. He offers to buy her silence but she doesn’t want that. They leave after being insulted.

Henry apologizes to Kate for his behavior. He tells her that Blayne said she would like it. She begins using the opportunity to speak out against Blayne. Elizabeth learns that gentlemen heard of her troubles and they’re willing to help. Fredo speaks with Croft on the street and asks how he could think so little of him. Lydia watches them. Croft promises to do what he can for Lucy but their relationship has to end. Rosamund causes a scene at the pub while arguing with Lucy. Rosamund tells Hal about seeing Lucy down at the docks on the night Isaac was killed. Hal becomes angry and asks why she didn’t come to him. He takes her upstairs. Hal tells Emily that he would never hurt her.

They end up having intercourse. Lydia goes to Blayne and tells him about Croft. Blayne isn’t happy now that his son has been stolen from him. He tells Lydia that he has made a lot of mistakes. He explains that he wants Lucy silenced. He wants to get his son back as well. He puts his hands around Lydia’s throat and says he wants to kill again. She tells him to break it then. He wants a doe. He threatens to kill Kate if Lydia doesn’t get him a kill.

 

Harlots Review

I generally love Harlots. The last two seasons were very entertaining. This season has had a few good episodes but that is about it. So much has changed. We have many new characters and they were thrust upon us. There was no feeling out period. That makes it tough to really develop a connection with them. I think there might be too many characters. I can’t put my finger on the exact reason but this season just hasn’t been as good as the others.

It has become painfully slow and somewhat disjointed. There are too many side stories going on. I can’t keep up. I am not too fond of the new characters either. Kate, Fredo, and Elizabeth are interesting but Hal and Isaac were not. Ultimately, I haven’t been too thrilled with this season. That is about all I can say. The episode scores a 6 out of 10.
