At the beginning of the episode, Max McCall (Mark Bonnar) meets with Cameron (Noof McEwan) and Roy (Bill Paterson). He is worried about Jake (Jamie Sives) and wants to know where he is. After their conversation ends, Max leaves and heads for the pub. He goes into a hidden room at the pub and finds his brother. Jake is not happy that his brother had him kidnapped. Max explains that it was for his own good since they’ve been working with Roy Lynch. During their argument, Kenny (Emun Elliott) joins them. Next, Tina (Moyo Akande) enters the money lending establishment and listens to Cameron and Roy speak about Max.
Tim is told to stick close to Claire (Sian Brooke) because they might be able to use her. After that, Max discusses his options with Jake and Kenny. He believes that he can rise up and take over Roy’s spot as long as they know who he is working with. Jake likes the idea but Kenny doesn’t. Nevertheless, Kenny believes that the copper Stevie (Henry Pettigrew) can give them the information they need. Stevie receives a call before meeting with Kenny in the lobby. Tina speaks with Cameron about their business and getting out. Cameron tells her to do exactly what Roy told her to do. During this time, Jake and Max interrogate Stevie.
He eventually gives them the name of the person Roy is working with. Next, Claire meets with Tina so they can discuss their relationship. Tina suspects that Max is in debt too. Tina interrupts Claire and lets her know that she is leaving and she wants Claire to come with her. Sheila (Ellie Haddington) visits Angie (Ruth Bradley) to tell her that the lawyer, Henry (Michael Nardone), knows that she isn’t Walter’s niece. Angie doesn’t believe it but she is going to be leaving soon enough anyway. After that, Max and Jake meet with the man above Roy. Max offers the man a far better deal and it seems that he is interested. Outside, Max tells Jake that he is confident that they’ll accept his deal.
Jake says that they’re finished. He wants his money so he can open a new shop. Max is surprised that he isn’t going to receive a thanks. After Jake leaves, Kenny speaks with Max in the vehicle about getting an office. Max tells him that they should keep things normal for the time being. After that, Sheila meets with Henry and complains about Angie’s lies. However, she doesn’t believe they should worry about it since Angie is leaving and she is going to leave the record collection behind. Henry reveals he has already passed the files along to the police. Jake goes to Walter’s house and tells Angie the truth.
She tells him that she is leaving tomorrow and he needs to leave today. Meanwhile, Claire asks Max about his money situation. Max denies being in debt. She gives him a piece of paper with a name of someone Max knows. He pretends that it is nothing big. Later, Jake calls Max and lets him know that his relationship with Angie is done. Max is convinced that Angie’s departure will be good for them. In the morning, Jake finds out that his record shop has been set on fire. Max visits and learns that the water did just as much damage as the fire. Jake is convinced that Roy is involved and he isn’t insured. Jake wonders why Roy would go for him and not his brother.
A nervous Max returns to his workplace and finds Roy there. He learns that his business partner has refused his officer. Roy isn’t getting cut out but Max is. Roy explains that it has something to do with loyalty. Max pretends that he isn’t willing to quit yet but one of Roy’s guards smashes his face into the table. Jake goes to Angie and tells her about the fire. He also tells her that he wants her to stay. She finally tells him that she isn’t Walter’s niece. Jake understands why Angie lied. She was offered money to lie and she needed that money. Meanwhile, Claire visits Tina and tells her that she wants to go with her. Tina says that she wasn’t joking. Kenny goes to the neighbor and threatens him until the man hands over copies of the video footage.
Max finds out that Angie has been arrested for pretending to be Walter’s niece. He agrees to represent her. They sit down with Stevie has his partner. During the interrogation, Jake receives the video footage on his phone. Tina takes Claire to the money lending shop and goes in alone. Angie and Max tell the investigators about the neighbor who paid Angie. They agree to let Angie go as long as they get information about Sheila. Tina tries to steal money from the safe but she gets caught. Jake meets with Kenny to chat about the video footage. Kenny is interested in bringing Max down but Jake refuses to cooperate.
Jake doesn’t believe his brother would do something like that and he suggests that they move on. Max tries to convince Stevie to help Angie. However, Stevie is going to do that. He also lets Max know that he told Roy about the offer. Claire becomes concerned when Tina doesn’t return. She goes inside and finds Roy and Cameron there. She is allowed to check around. She follows a set of stairs and it exits onto the street. She gets a text from Tina telling her she is sorry. After that, Max tells Jake and Angie that they’ll be fine. He tells them that they should head straight for the airport. Max goes to Sheila and tells her that the police are going to come to speak with her.
Sheila is surprised to learn that Walter is going to be exhumed. He warns her that it will be bad for both of them. Max wonders what Walter was doing out there in the dark and why he didn’t see the car. He wonders if Sheila didn’t give him enough. He believes Sheila was awake because Walter calls her for help that night. Sheila says that Walter was in a lot of pain and talked about ending his life. They agree that Sheila will have to tell the cops about the car hitting Walter. Max claims that he wasn’t there at all since he got drunk at the wedding and Jake took his car keys. He tells Sheila that she only saw one of them. He believes it will be done if she goes with that story.
Sheila is shocked that Max would turn on his own brother but he believes Jake will be just fine since he is leaving town. Jake and Angie watch as Max leaves in his car and Sheila does the same. After that, Jake and Angie speak with Sheila about turning on Max. During this time, Max returns home to Claire and finds out that she tried to leave. Claire wants Max to leave and she isn’t willing to talk it over either. She warns him that she’ll reveal things about him if he doesn’t cooperate with her. She tells Max that she went to the place where he gets money so she has enough to hurt him.
He tells her that it might have been different if she hadn’t left the wedding early. Max takes his bags and leaves. Max goes to a quiet place to think before getting a call from Jake. When they meet, Jake tells him that they should’ve called the police when they hit Walter. Jake tells him that they couldn’t leave because of Max. Jake tells Max that he used to look out for him and he was waiting for him to do it again. Max doesn’t believe their mother liked him. Max tells his brother that he has lost Claire before encouraging his brother to leave but Jake isn’t going.
Stevie leaves Sheila’s house before Max apologizes to Jake. They hug. The police come and arrest Max. He seems stunned to find out that everyone turned on him. Max is led away in a squad car as the episode comes to an end.
Guilt Review
I’ve enjoyed every episode of this television series. It has been great. The acting was excellent and the story was very intriguing. While similar stories have been done before, Guilt took a new twist and looked at things from a new angle. I wasn’t expecting the ending. I guess the brothers decided to flip on one another. However, I think the writers got it right here. Max seemed to be the more ruthless and shady brother. I think it makes sense for him to go down for the crime instead of Jake.
However, it is a bit disappointing that he is the only one who got into trouble. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the finale and thought it did a good job finishing the story. The finale scores a 7.5 out of 10. Previous recaps of Guilt can be found on Reel Mockery!

What happened to Tina when she got caught stealing the money?
Has been a bit since I watched this series so I can’t recall right now. I do remember that it was a hoot while it lasted. Will try to jog my memory and see if I can find out for you.
Disappointed in the ending. Looks like the very evil Sheila faces no consequences for poisoning Walter.
And Angie definitely committed identity fraud, for which she was arrested, as well as overstaying her visa. She could implicate Sheila, who paid her 20,000 pounds to do it. Will Jake get off scot-free (pun intended) for his hit-and-run killing of Walter by lying to the police about who was driving? As well as being an accomplice in the money laundering through his store? Which would also implicate policeman Stevie? Sure, I can see all these folks trying to get out of all Guilt (or at least criminal charges) by blaming Max for everything, but I can’t see them succeeding 100%. Maybe that’s where Season 2 will take us?
I really like this idea. Would love to see a second season to see what happens. The fans deserve it honestly.
Can’t argue with you there. Has been a long time since I watched this show so I can’t remember the specifics. Would like to see a second season to cover the bases though.
