As the episode begins, we see two men talking about laundering money. Then, we see that Angie has put the house up for sale. Across the street, Sheila (Ellie Haddington) changes the picture on her wall. She hangs a picture of herself and an older gentleman. Then, we jump back and see Sheila meeting with the lawyer Henry McKinnon (Michael Nardone). They discuss Walter’s will. He has left everything to Sheila except for the record collection. Unfortunately, it appears that they’re going to have a tough time tracking down Walter’s niece. After that Jake (Jamie Sives) hangs out with Angie (Ruth Bradley). Jack confronts her about the matches so Angie says that she came earlier and worked at the pub for a few months before Walter passed.
Angie claims that she overstayed her visa illegally. Jake seems to be accepting of it. He tells her that he would like her to stay but Angie doesn’t seem interested in doing that. She says that she’ll talk about it later before Jake leaves. Meanwhile, Kenny Burns (Emun Elliott) watches the footage several times. He notices that Walter leaves his house alone. Kenny confronts Jake outside and offers him a ride. Jake refuses. After that, Jake goes to the store and meets with the accountant. He is asked to sign more paperwork but Jake is suspicious because the page numbers are not in sequence.
Next, Max (Mark Bonnar) receives a call while Kenny begins meeting with mechanics. He eventually goes to The Tyre Station with the red blow-up doll outside and gets the information he needs. Meanwhile, Max gets in touch with Jake to find out why he didn’t sign off on the paperwork. Jake explains that he wants to take more control over the business. Angie goes through Walter’s medication before she gets a call from Claire (Sian Brooke). When they meet, Claire tells Angie about her relationship with Tina (Moyo Akande). Claire says that she likes the fact that Angie makes her own decisions but Angie says she has made a lot of bad decisions.
Max visits Cameron (Noof McEwan) in hopes of getting out of their business arrangement. However, Cameron isn’t willing to let that happen. He tells Max that the people above him will not let Max step away. Max visits his brother at the record shop and tries to tell him to let it go. He tells Jake that he doesn’t want to know the truth since that would make him responsible too. Jake wants to know what his brother has got him into though. Meanwhile, Stevie gambles at work and loses. Claire spends more time with Tina before calling her and getting the voicemail. She leaves a message saying that they should end their relationship.
After that, Max meets with Kenny who has found out the truth. Kenny tells Max that he has two options. He threatens to bring him down if he doesn’t make him a partner in the business. Jake tells Angie that he is thinking about creating a website for the record shop to attract international customers. He is also considering moving the shop. While at Walter’s house, Jake finds a note from Walter that mentions Jessie. Angie doesn’t know who Jessie is. Max gets stopped in the middle of the road and told to follow another car. They go to the docks and Max is confronted by Roy Lynch (Bill Paterson). Max is told that he needs to convince Jake to stick with their arrangement.
Otherwise, it will be bad for both of them. Angie begins researching Walter’s medication usage. She suspects that something is wrong so she calls someone and tells them to come down. While Max speaks with Roy, Kenny sneaks up and tries to see what is happening. He is attacked from behind and beaten badly. Stevie (Henry Pettigrew) receives a call telling him that someone is looking for him. The conversation between Max and Roy ends a short time later. Angie breaks down and begins crying while having a flashback about meeting with Sheila. Angie sits down with Gordie (Tom Urie) and Sheila. Sheila claims that she cared for Walter and paid for everything.
They explain that Walter left everything to Sheila but they need his niece. They offer Angie 20 grand to pretend to be Walter’s niece. They also claim that the money from Walter’s will is going to be used for charity. Angie agrees to cooperate with them. Max goes to the cemetery and finds Jake there. Jake says that his band had a chance to become successful but Max ruined that. Meanwhile, Stevie and a partner are told that they have a new assignment. Max tells Jake that he needs to stick with him if he wants to be successful. Max is worried that Jake will pick Angie over him. He tries to convince his brother not to do that and he warns him that he is in danger.
Max receives an urgent call before we see a meeting between Gordy, Angie, and Sheila. Angie calls Sheila out on her lies. She didn’t pay for everything like she said. Angie tells her about the note Walter wrote to his niece about Sheila overdosing him. Angie is reminded that they’re all liars and she is given her money. Tina visits Claire at home while Stevie finds out that their new client is Kenny. Claire and Tina discuss their relationship and other things. Claire wants some time to think things through. They share a few kisses while Gordy speaks with Sheila. He says it is a shame what happened to Walter and Ralph. Sheila tells her son that he should leave before it gets too dark.
Stevie and his partner speak with Kenny at the hospital. He tells them that he was attacked from behind. Kenny doesn’t want to comment any further. Stevie tries to hide his face. When Stevie’s partner leaves, he watches Kenny from a distance. Sheila learns that Gordy has received an email from Walter’s niece. She receives a note of condolences and didn’t know her uncle was dead. Angie texts Jake and lets him know that she has something to tell him. He tells her the same. Max calls someone and says that he tried. He tells them to only scare Jake. Sheila goes to Gordy and lets him know that the solicitor knows that Angie is not Walter’s niece.
She is going to see him tomorrow so she needs Gordy but he isn’t willing to help. He is beginning to suspect that Sheila killed Ralph and Walter. Gordy explains that he doesn’t want to be involved anymore. She reminds him that she got a house and he got a pub when Ralph died. Tina returns home that night and tells Roy that Claire doesn’t know anything. We learn that Tina’s goal was to befriend Claire all along. Tina is adamant that Claire knows nothing. Jake is kidnapped off of the streets.
Guilt Review
Boy, this show is getting very serious now. It has leaned more toward comical early on but that changed this episode. Things are starting to heat up and everyone is in big trouble. Jessie is coming to town so that is going to blow Angie’s cover. Max needs to keep the business arrangement going with Roy so he set up his brother to get kidnapped. Poor old Jake is the most innocent person in the show despite being the one who hit Walter with the car.
Everyone is hiding something and it should come out in the finale. This episode wasn’t as funny as the previous one but it was deep and emotional. I think it did a good job setting up the finale. This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Guilt before you leave!
