The Gotham finale begins with Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) returning to Gotham and speaking to Selina Kyle (Camren Biconodova). Bruce (David Mazouz) listens to a radio report about the gang war, before breaking his father’s picture. Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) enters and attempts to convince Bruce that his father had no secrets. The pair speak about the door to his father’s office always being locked, before Bruce begins searching for something.
Carmine Falcone (John Doman) purchases a chicken, before his car is hit with a rocket launcher. At the police station, James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) watches as some of the gangsters are hauled in. Gordon pays a visit to Dr. Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), who is working on Barbara. Barbara thanks Gordon, before receiving advice from Leslie, who agrees to become her counselor. Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) tells Gordon about Falcone, who is nearly dead in the hospital. He also suggests that everyone is turning their support to Maroni.
Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Butch pay Falcone a visit. Oswald gives him a proper goodbye, before revealing his scheme to start the war and destroy Falcone and Maroni. Oswald suggests he is going to become the king of Gotham, but Falcone insults him and says otherwise. Oswald prepares to slit his throat, when Gordon enters and arrests Oswald and Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell). He chains them to a radiator.
Gordon and Falcone agree that Gotham will fall apart, if Falcone dies. Gordon speaks to Bullock, who insists Maroni’s men are on the way, but Gordon is adamant about helping Falcone. As soon as he gets off of the phone, Tommy Bones (James Andrew O’Connor) enters and exits. Oswald reminds Gordon of his favor. Commissioner Loeb (Peter Scolari) enters with Tommy and confronts Gordon. He orders Gordon to leave, but fails. A shootout ensues. Eventually wielding two handguns, Gordon turns into a bad arse and virtually kills everyone.
Bullock shows up and Gordon tells him about Butch and Oswald joining them. The group makes their escape in an ambulance. Bruce continues trashing his father’s office, while the ambulance arrives at a safe house. Selina approaches with a shotgun, before Fish emerges and confronts the group. Meanwhile, Leslie speaks with Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). Barbara expresses her anxiousness, despite the Ogre’s death.
Fish reacquaints herself with Butch, before she speaks to Maroni. Gordon and his team is tied up. Selina speaks to Gordon, who asks for help, but is refused. Butch freaks out and rushes off, while Fish threatens Carmine and Oswald. Barbara continue speaking to Leslie about her connection with Jason, before the conversation turns to James. Barbara speaks about the potential of James hitting Leslie out of passion, before Barbara suggests getting food.
Maroni arrives to get the prisoners. Oswald attempts to speak some sense into Fish. He insists Maroni will kill Fish too. With that, Fish and Maroni begin to argue. The pair finally come to terms, but Maroni continues pushing Fish’s buttons, until she kills him and a shootout ensues. Gordon and crew are able to escape, during the confusion. Leslie and Barbara continue to speak about James, while Barbara still avoids explaining exactly what happened with the Ogre.
Gordon, Bullock and Falcone plan their escape, as Falcone insists he is getting out of the business. Bullock considers running with Falcone, before Selina recaptures them, but Oswald is still missing. While Fish and Falcone chat, Oswald comes out guns blazing. He calls for Fish and attempts to chase her down, as the others escape once more. Barbara tells Leslie about her adventure with Jason and the murder of her parents. She confesses to killing her parents. Barbara confronts Leslie with a knife.
A fight ensues between Barbara and Leslie. Gordon and crew bust in, before Oswald fights with Fish. Butch arrives with a gun and winds up shooting both of them. Oswald attacks Butch from behind, before tossing Fish over the ledge. Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) gets a visit from Kringle. She questions him about the note and his hidden message. Nygma insists it is a coincidence, but Kringle isn’t buying it. After she leaves, he flips out and begins talking to himself.
Gordon speaks with Falcone, who insists he isn’t going to change his mind. Falcone gives Gordon his knife and reveals that it was Gordon’s fathers. Back at Wayne Manor, Bruce has been unable to find anything. Something Alfred says sets him off, as he rummages through a book and finds a hidden device, with a button. Bruce pushes it and the pair discover a hidden dungeon.
Review
The finale of Gotham was definitely solid. The city’s crime lords all met an untimely end, or retirement, aside from Oswald. Of course, he may soon have a new rival in Edward Nygma. Selina finally made her move and became a hellion on her own. Although some of the episodes lagged and 22 episodes is entirely too much, the finale pulled everything together and made the first season well worth a watch. The finale deserves a 7.5 out of 10.
