FROM Season 2 Episode 6 Recap

Ballerina From MGM+

Pas De Deux – The episode opens with Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) trying to rationalize his actions with Sara Myers (Avery Konrad). He tells Tian Chen Liu (Elizabeth Moy) that he can’t justify what she took from her and Kenny Liu (Ricky He). He assures her that he knows what it feels like to lose a loved one there. He promises to leave no stone unturned to lead people home. Kenny makes his disapproval known. Tian scolds him in their native Cantonese tongue. Boyd tells them that he takes responsibility for his actions before leaving.

Town Parish – Boyd is shocked to find the pews gone. The music box, from his encounter with Martin (Robert Verlaque), plays from a nearby table. Joining a real-life ballerina (Michelle Murphy), they dance to the tune until worms spew from her mouth. After collapsing on the floor, he finds himself still in the diner. Kenny and Tian rush over to assist him to a chair and treat the laceration on his head. She suggests having Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) assess him. Boyd prepares to leave but Kenny escorts him out the door by the arm.

Colony House – Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) and Ellis Stevens (Corteon Moore) document the town’s scant food supply. Dale (Cliff Saunders), loaded down with potatoes, wastes no time making a bad situation worse. He hopes that Donna will bring some back. Shrugging off Ellis’s help, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) grabs a basket to take to the truck. Dale asks if they’re okay. Donna assures them that they will be fine if they continue to ration before informing them of her decision to stay at Liu’s tonight. She delegates the locking up of the Colony House to Fatima and Ellis. Fatima questions what they’re supposed to say when the others ask about the food supply. Donna suggests the less they know, the much better off they will be.

Town Hospital – Enjoying her new style, Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) looks in Mari’s (Kaelen Ohm) bag for an accessory when she discovers a “Lavender Palm Rehabilitation & Treatment Center” welcome package. Mari questions why she would snoop through her things. Throwing the packet on the nightstand, Kristi reminds her of what she said about visiting her aunt. Mari claims to have kept it to herself to not upset her. Kristi realizes the setback coincides with her disappearance. Mari says it started several months ago before admitting to “using” again. Kristi removes the vials from the medical supply cabinet. Pleading with her to stop, Mari suggests now is the perfect time to stop. Kristi asks if she removed any morphine from their supply. Mari says just a “little bit” before heading out for a walk. Kristi reminds her that it will be dark soon.

In The Woods – Boyd escorts Kenny to the location where he met Martin. He points out the leaves are changing. Kenny says he appears more stable now they’re going back to town. Overwrought with pain, Boyd claims to be able to feel them even when they aren’t visible. Kenny asks him to explain. Boyd admits to having trouble understanding but it is a parasitic infestation. Worms crawl underneath his skin when a music box begins to play. Not hearing the tune, Kenny follows him to an underground chamber, the first place Jade (David Alpay) had a hallucination. When Boyd approaches the music box, a ballerina emerges from the chamber. Back to reality, he realizes Kenny didn’t see anything.

Colony Home – Ellis approaches as Fatima installs the makeshift alarm system near the back door. He asks if they’re okay.

Town Hospital – Kenny waits as Kristi assesses Boyd. He removes his shirt to expose the scar on his arm. He explains his encounter with Martin who contaminated him with something. He claims the parasites prevented Martin from dying, so he passed them to him. He asks if she could imagine living with something so bad that it made her want to die but couldn’t because of the pain. He asks her to promise she will end it when it gets unbearable. Discussing Boyd’s condition, Kenny and Kristi struggle to believe him. Kenny says his father, Bing-Qian Liu (Simon Sinn) who had dementia said strange things. She says it is still too early to tell but Parkinson’s disease can cause dementia in the later stages.

Liu Residence – Donna explains home-canning and extended food storage to Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster). Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) joins in on the conversation. Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) as he asks if that is the last of their supplies. Donna tells him that new crops have been successfully planted. He questions why no one has said anything to the others. She warns it would cause panic like what he is experiencing right now. He frowns on her decision to hide the truth. She assures him that it is the best she can do. When he mentions his conspiracy theory, Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) intervenes. Ethan asks what they mean by the town not having enough food.

Town Hospital – Boyd doubles over in pain as the music box begins to play and the ballerina’s silhouette can be seen through the privacy curtain. Pulling back the curtain, he sees nothing out of the ordinary. Grabbing him from behind, the ballerina shoves him onto the bed and begins to strangle him. When Mari approaches, he snaps out of it but draws his handgun.

Colony Home – Ellis reminds Fatima every time she says things are fine, it is the exact opposite. Shutting the door, he mentions Boyd’s secret. She says they will be husband and wife soon. She warns everyone is at risk with Sara back. He tries to justify Boyd’s decision until he agrees with her. Elgin (Nathan D Simmons) and Dale get into a verbal dispute while preparing dinner. Dale accuses him of taking food from the pantry. Elgin claims to be adding food from his backpack to their supply. Fatima and Ellis intervene as Dale blurts out that the storm destroyed their supplies. He warns it will get more dire with the newcomers hoarding. Ellis accuses Dale of exaggerating about the food supply. Dale tries to state his point before making a snarky remark about the “magic tower” helping them get home. Dale suggests flushing the newcomers out of town, starting with Elgin. During a brief scuffle, Ellis is accidentally stabbed in the side with a knife. As Dale apologizes, Fatima orders him removed from the room. Clara (Katerina Bakolias), Fatima, and Bakta (Angela Moore) assist him to the sofa. Clara grabs some towels while applying pressure to his wound.

Town Hospital – Boyd’s visions have now taken the form of Father Khatri (Shaun Majumder) who says stains won’t wash away. Boyd suggests they all will end up like him and Bing-Qian. He knows his death is inevitable. Father Khatri speaks of how proud of him he is before, he would have refused to ask for help. He warns everyone thinks he is crazy. Boyd asks what he thinks. Father Khatri points out that he is speaking with a figment of his imagination. Boyd describes him as the worst priest he ever met when Kenny intervenes. He orders him to move out of his way. Kenny closes the door leading upstairs to keep him away from the others. Boyd admits to being terrified of what happened in the woods.

Colony Home – Ellis needs to get to the hospital but Donna has the truck. Fatima reminds him of the van outside. He warns it is too dangerous before trying to assure her that he will be okay until morning. As she and Elgin reach the door, someone alerts them of a monster nearby. Elgin takes out the door to the van. The librarian creature (Daphne Stephen) asks where he is going when an older creature joins her. Jumping into the van, he finds the keys above the sun visor.

As she is joined by an older creature, Elgin arrives at the van and jumps in unimpeded. He doesn’t run into problems until he realizes the keys are nowhere in sight. Frantically fumbling around, they are revealed to be concealed in the sun visor. Pulling it down, the keys fall to the floor where he retrieves them in the nick of time and gets the van started. When he approaches the porch, Fatima is assisting Ellis toward the van. With everyone in the van, they head to the hospital.

Town Hospital – Mari tells Kristi that she will stay at the Colony House when they hear Fatima’s frantic knocking. As they get Ellis to a bed, he complains of not being able to breathe. Kenny and Boyd approach as Kristi works to relieve pressure in Ellis’ chest cavity. She is worried about Mari as she continues to save Ellis’ life. Boyd and Fatima move back as Kristi, Kenny, and Mari work on Ellis. With the pressure relieved, Ellis’ breathing normalizes. As Boyd calms Fatima, Kristi updates them on Ellis’ condition. She warns his organs will shut down if he doesn’t get a blood transfusion. Boyd and Ellis are O-negative. Fatima goes in see Ellis while Boyd frets over the blood transfusion. He voices concern about Ellis contracting the parasite. Fatima says he will die if he doesn’t get his blood. Kenny draws his gun as Boyd exhibits another attack. Kristi and Mari admit to seeing the parasite. Kenny suggests giving him the parasite.

Outside The Hospital – With a pocket knife in hand, Boyd tantalizes the creatures with promises of fresh blood. The Smiley-Faced Creature (Jamie McGuire) is the first to take the bait, emerging from the nearby wooded area with a creepy grin on his face. In that very instance, The Cowboy Creature (Wil Lang) and a female creature are nearby. Boyd cuts his palm before slicing the Smiley Creature’s throat. He recites the familiar mantra of his blood being the creature’s blood. The Smiley-Faced Creature says he likes this game when he becomes overwrought with pain. Screaming at the top of his lungs, his face transformed into a shriveled mess. Once inside the hospital, Boyd agrees to donate Ellis his blood.

Liu Residence – Donna and Ethan are finished canning the food. They agree it wasn’t too terrible. Staring at something above, he asks what would happen if the house falls. She assures him that it won’t happen until his parents dig another giant hole in the floor which they probably won’t do. He admits to being afraid, despite his constant steadfast claims of being fearless. She tells him that she is equally frightened before suggesting fear is a good thing. They embrace.

Town Hospital – With the transfusion completed, Kristi disconnects the tubing and puts a bandage on Boyd’s arm. Against her recommendations, he leaves. Ellis reports his breathing is better. While she spruces up, he asks if Fatima is still mad at him. Fatima kisses him before leaving the room when she breaks down sobbing. She later asks Kristi for a pregnancy test.

As Boyd stares out into the nightly abyss from the hospital’s front entrance, Kenny approaches. He is upset with himself for not listening to Boyd and he doesn’t waste a second making it known. Boyd is quick to forgive; pointing out their success is all that matters. Both are focused on the shriveled heap in the middle of the hospital’s lot. When asked, Boyd announces that it hasn’t moved and they’ll find out soon enough whether it actually died or not.

From Review

The episode partially tied up a few storylines while creating new ones. It’s still questionable if Boyd really gives his parasite to the Smiley Creature. There are still a lot of questions to be answered. The series could go on forever with new revelations. The episode deserves a 6.5. Get more From recaps here.
