Fool Me Once Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

As the episode opens, Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar) introduces Marty McGreggor (Dino Fetscher) to Molly Sardana (Clara Indrani). She tells him about their impending wedding. Kierce hurries to keep their conversation short. Marty is shocked to learn Molly is in the dark about Kierce’s illness. He stresses the need for Kierce to inform her before the wedding. Vowing to tell her once his tests results are in, Kierce says it is none of his business.

Eva Finn (Adelle Leonce) tells Maya Stern (Michelle Keegan) that she got rid of her and Robby’s photos and send his email to her attorney. Maya invites her to stay with her and Lilly Burkett (Thea Taylor Morgan). Eva refuses to let him turn her life upside down.

Abby Walker (Danya Griver) is at football practice when she receives a DNA Me message from a half-brother accepting her meeting request. When Daniel Walker (Daniel Burt) asks if there had been any messages, she says no.

Shane Tessier (Emmett J Scanlan) checks Maya’s security system for bugs. He asks if Eva gave it to her. She tells him that she trusts Eva like Him. He claims the test didn’t pick up anything out of the ordinary when Kierce arrives. She scoffs at the idea of the suspect being interviewed and then released. He shows her a photo of PJ. She suggests it was one of the motorcyclist at the park. He asks if she is aware of Burkett Global sponsoring the Winherst Pumas Football team. She says Joe Burkett (Richard Armitage) sponsored the team because Abby is a player. When she returns the photo, she notices his hand shaking. Later, Shane and Maya take Lily on an adventure trip. She receives a call from Judith Burkett (Joanna Lumley) asking to see Lily.

Marty and Kierce confront Eddie about his alibi not panning out. They show him the CCTV image of him and a woman in a vehicle on the after of Joe’s murder. Eddie claims he met Sasha in the parking lot of the gym where her vehicle had broken down. He tells them that he took her home where he left her and went to a pub alone.

Abby schedules a meeting with her half-brother at Winherst Sports Centre when Louis (Charlie Cain) arrives. As she walks past him, their phones chime. He claims to be her half-brother but she refuses to believe because he works for Winherst Pumas Football team. He admits to enjoying the time he and Claire Walker (Natalie Anderson) spent together. He says his plan was to tell her but he didn’t know how. He claims Claire took him to a posh school under the pretense of him being interested in going there. He compares the experience to a “secret mission”. He says she was killed the next day.

Lily runs into Judith’s arms. After Lilly goes to the playroom, Judith starts grilling Maya about her mental state. Maya refuses not be put into a mental institution like Caroline Burkett (Hattie Morahan) before threatening to leave if she doesn’t drop it. Maya receives a call from Abby informing her of Louis and Claire’s tour of the posh school, maybe Frederick or Frank. She urges her to call Eddie. Abby agrees before ending the call. Walking through the house, she spots Caroline who scurries away. While looking for her, Maya spots a plaque for Franklin Biddle on display.

Louis tells Abby that he loves his mum and she has always been enough for him. He says she was always open about him being adopted and joined DNA Me where he located Claire. Abby asks why he never went to the police. He tells her that it didn’t seem important because Claire died in a burglary. She asks him to not tell Daniel.

Nicole Butler (Jade Anouka) urges Kierce to remain calm. He asks her to leave so he can prepare for his test results. Dr. Leah Garrison (Natasha Joseph) diagnoses him with degenerative brain disease. He questions if it has something to do with his drinking. She warns that his condition will continue to progress. He weeps.

Franklin Biddle University – Maya sees a photo of Andrew Burkett (Edward Harper Jones) on an In Memoriam board. Neville Lockwood (Nicholas Farrell) to find Maya in his office. When she identifies herself as a Burkett, his tone softens. Holding up a photo of Claire, she asks if he remembers speaking with her when she brought her son for a tour. He says no. She assures him that Claire was not really there for a tour but information. He denies any knowledge of what she is referring to. She refuses to leave until he talks. He refers to her as Captain Stern. She threatens to convince Judith to stop donating to the institution. Lockwood claims Claire wanted to know about Theo Mora who died while still a student there 25 years ago. He says Joe and Theo were friends.

Kierce meets Molly at the church. He tells her that he can’t do it before rushing out of the church. Elsewhere, Lockwood claims Theo died of alcohol poisoning during a football celebration on June 8, 1996. Maya says that was six weeks before Andrew died. He believes Andrew committed suicide because of Theo’s death. Maya asks for the names of the boys on the yacht when Andrew died. He says Joe, Christopher Swain, and other football players. In the car, she receives a call from a Eddie informing her of Abby not answering her phone. Maya tells him that Abby found Louis. Eddie ends the call.

Raisa Mora (Anna Maria Everett) tells Theo received a scholarship from Franklin Biddle. She boasts of how well he fit in. She claims Javier questioned the alcohol poisoning cause of death because Theo was not a drinker. She believes Andrew committed suicide because he felt guilty. Later, Maya tries to call Abby only to get her voicemail. She receives a call from Corey Rudzinski (Laurie Kynaston) but the call ends before she can answer.

Player One Arcade Club – Corey tells Maya that Tommy Dark missed his monthly storage rental fee a month ago. She questions what he utilized the space for. Elsewhere, Kierce declines to answer Marty’s call. PJ Dawson (Lawrence Hodgson Mullins) failed to show up for his interview. Marty says he is now an official suspect.

Eddie tells Alexander Dosman (Joe Armstrong) that Abby is with his son. Alexander denies knowing he had a son until Abby told him a week ago. He asks if the child is a boy. Eddie questions why he isn’t trying to make contact with his son. Alexander admits to not being a people person. Eddie receives a call from Abby.

Nicole approaches Kierce on a bridge. He asks her to give him one reason. He tells her that his condition will only progress. She assures him that Molly is strong. He says she should not have to be before refusing to do that to her.

Corey tells Maya that the Burkett pharmaceutical division is corrupt and every board member knows. He says a boy in India treated with Burkett antibiotics died. He claims Burkett medicine has horrible side effects. He believes Claire found something that could take down the Burkett empire. PJ receives an urged call from his father. Eddie goes through Claire’s things. Maya and Corey find Tommy inside a freezer in the storage unit.

 

Fool Me Once Review

Corey believes Claire found information that could take down the Burkett empire. Burkett medicines have serious side effects and linked to a young boy’s death in India.

Maya learns several months before Andrew died, his best friend, Theo, died of alcohol poisoning. Raisa believes Andrew jumped overboard into the sea because he felt guilt.

Kierce is diagnosed with degenerative brain disease. He threatens to jump off a bridge to spare Molly the grief of taking care of him.

Claire and Maya find Tommy Dark’s body in a freezer in a storage unit.

  1. A lot of good twists and turns in the last two episodes make up for a most of the frustrating elements of the previous six episodes; not enough to male Fool Me Once a great show but enough to at least make it an OK show.

    1. I am getting there begrudgingly lol. Seems like there was absolutely nothing coming out over the holidays, but now they’ve opened the floodgates. I’ll get there though and let you know how it goes lol.
