He was told his story was simply not unique enough.
Madam Victory disagreed. She gets with Carl and urges him to write his story. Carl says her character doesn’t realize she’s special. She tries to get Carl to look past the super hero aspect of the stories. Carl says they inspire him to watch the movies. The actress struggles to get him to look at other stories. Vanesja tells Julio they want him as Super Chico who is the first queer 5’8” Latinx superhero. Julio doesn’t seem to like the idea. Bibo tells him his new social media consultant has arrived. She’s helped many people get exceptions by making them famous on social media. Julio is introduced to Pirulinpinpina. Julio is given a list of rules and told the consultant’s fee is $500 per session.

Derrrick warns Julio that everything will collapse if he keeps pulling at this thread. Suddenly, there will be no God. Before long, Derrrick sits nearby while everyone jumps in place. He checks a dating app and finds a man calling himself “Looking 4 Twinks 2 Suck”. Richard is urged to snap the picture and add the caption. He’s told he will lure young prey for his dog. Once the victims arrive, they will be sucked of their beauty and energy.
He will eventually walk the earth as a three-dimensional Pomeranian again. The dog forces Richard to send more messages to get more men there. Julio ends up responding to his message. He tells him he’s cute but he’s not into it. Richard responds by typing what his dog tells him. Julio blocks Richard’s profile. Bibo learns he’s still getting paid today. He wants to be an actor so he also wants a raise. He also wants time off work and a promotion to head Bibo or Bibo manager. Bibo changes his mind and wants to be called Associate Bibo manager. Vanesja calls Julio to say Zappos wants to meet about the superhero thing. She goes on to say they want him to co-write it. Julio doesn’t know how that’ll get him an exception. Vanesja tells him she hasn’t been able to get him a biopsy.
Julio begins remembering his dream in which he was trapped. Vanesja talked to every shady doctor in the business and they won’t do it because it’s a birthmark and they don’t want to get sued. Julio agrees to do the credit card commercial.
Fantasmas Review
The fourth episode of Fantasmas was a bit unbalanced with the beginning being stronger than the ending. The series does a good job of putting viewers through an array of emotions in each episode. For instance, the beginning of the episode was a bit sad with the whole Madame Victory and Carl situation.
Later in the episode, it shifted to being humorous. In particular, Edwin was fairly humorous and the dress bit was very clever. As for Julio, he is still struggling to find a way to get an exception so he doesn’t need proof of existence. He’s finally agreed to do the credit card commercial since the superhero film isn’t going to cut it.
One issue here is HBO Max and its decision to release these episodes weekly instead of all at once. It really ruins the flow of the series as well as any momentum the episodes have built. By the time another episode is released, we’ll have forgotten parts of the story and we may forget the release date as well.
The same can be said for MILF of Norway and other MAX titles. Truthfully, Fantasmas would be more enjoyable as a short binge in the middle of the night without the weekly delays. The episode scores a 6 out of 10, but the Carl scenes were much stronger. Recaps of Fantasmas can be found here. Find out how more about support our independent voice here.
