J’ai Deux Amours (I Have Two Lovers) – The episode begins with Emily Cooper’s (Lily Collins) dream which ends with her falling off a building.

Emily practices what she’ll say to Madeline. Mindy Chen (Ashley Park) protests when she catches Emily cutting her hair.

Emily tells Mindy that she hates to disappoint people. Mindy assures her you get used to disappointing people over time. When Camille (Camille Razat) says she’s picking up croissants for Gabriel, Mindy tells her that she’s already his “bit**” after just moving in. Camille informs Emily that Sylvie requested the Champere account to be delivered to her new firm. Emily assures her that it’ll be cleared up today. After Camille leaves, Emily admits to working to ensure she and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) are together after he returns to London. Mindy suggests keeping her birth control up to date.

Madeline (Kate Walsh) says Antoine Lambert’s (William Abadie) elite brand, Maison Lavaux, is ready to be taken to the next level. She suggests Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) consider franchising. Antoine asks at what cost. She assures him that the fees will be a “drop in the bucket” compared to the revenue. He asks how they as Americans will maneuver the French luxury market. After informing him of their plan to bring on new French workers, she promises it will a seamless transition before they return to America. Gabriel asks Emily if she’s not staying in Paris. She says it won’t impact their marketing agency/client relationship.

A weepy Madeline admits to being excited to mentor Emily when Doug (Roe Hartrampf) calls. Madeline tells her that she wasn’t aware they stayed in touch. Emily claims it’s a “butt dial” because it’s been months since they last spoke. Madeline suggests he realizes what he let walk away.

Doug informs Emily of his being McDonald’s new Associate Manager of Global Partnerships. She asks if he said global before reminding him of his never visiting Canada. He says his “dream job” is at the McDonald’s corporate office in Chicago. She assures him that he deserves it. He suggests she’d be perfect to market McDonald’s new McBaguette.

Luc (Bruno Gouery) reminds Emily that the company doesn’t have a name or office. Julien (Samuel Arnold) suggests the Sass Factory while Luc says “Gatekeepers” is more heroic. Emily informs Sylvie of McDonald’s McBaguette. Sylvia admits her only baguette interest is diamonds.

Emily assures Antoine that she’s totally committed to Sylvie. Antoine suggests she reconsider because Sylvie only cares about Sylvie. When Gabriel asks what happened to her hair, she snaps at him before apologizing. She admits to being unable to resign from Savoir and convince Sylvie to market McDonald’s new McBaguette. He suggests it may have not been a bad decision before they head to McDonald’s.

Gabriel tells Emily that he likes Alfie. She informs him of his leaving for America tomorrow. He offers to reserve a table at his restaurant. She thanks him.

Benoit (Kevin Dias) tells Mindy that they got a gig at the La Trompette Bleue in St. Germain.

Emily takes a French language course. The French instructor (Holy Fatma) asks her to translate “Chose, I choose, you choose.” Emily says it means “not choosing is still choosing.” They continue to discuss it when Alfie approaches.

Etienne (Jin Xuan Mao), Benoit, and Mindy perform at the La Trompette Bleue.

Alfie invites Emily to his place. She admits to having a presentation to work on before informing him of Gabriel reserving several tables for his leaving for America. He says he was hoping to spend some time alone with her.

Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) Land Erik de Groot (Soren Bregendal) get intimate

Mindy sings “Two Loves” (Jai Deux Amours).

Emily admits to being concerned about leaving Madeline while she’s pregnant. She says it’s possible for her to continue working for both women until Madeline hires French staff. Mindy assures her that it won’t be possible without an Adderall dealer. Emily says she and Gabriel are having a get-together for Alfie tomorrow.

Emily suggests to Sylvie that McDonald’s would complement the launch of her new company. Luc tells Sylvie that McDonald’s will only be in Paris for a short time. Sylvie says they’ll extend a dinner invitation for tonight. Emily informs her of Alfie’s going away party before agreeing to do both. Sylvie tells Julien to book a table at the Resto Jules Verne on the Eiffel tower at 8pm. When she walks away, Julien says this is insane. Luc points out that he ate his and part of Emily’s McBaguette. Julien assures him that he worked out earlier before asking about the Boucheron. Luc admits to not backing up his laptop that he left as Savoir. Julien demands he go get it now. Luc warns that he could get arrested for trespassing.

Julien asks if he knows how Sylvie will react when she finds out he lost her client’s file. Jumping up, Luc says Madeline can’t chase him because she’s too pregnant.

Madeline asks Luc why he’s there. He claims to be picking up some of his personal items She orders him to get his things and leave. He tells her that he’s sorry they left her alone. She reminds him of Emily working for her. He informs her of Emily working on McDonald’s McBaguette for Sylvie. She suggests sending champagne to their table because Emily’s earned it.

Alfie arrives at his going away party to find Emily missing. Camille says Emily adores him. Antoine gives him a gift. Alfie says he hasn’t heard of his brand, Maison Lavaux, until now. Antoine claims it’s an “exclusive brand” that he’s contemplated expanding into mass markets but France’s tax laws aren’t pro-businessmen. After assuring him that it’s possible to get around their tax laws, Alfie says the bank he works for finances lots of French businesses.

Raphael (Florian Cadiou) asks Mindy if she’d like to perform at La Trompette Bleue regularly. She says Etienne and Benoit will be so excited. He tells her that the offer isn’t for the guys, only her. She agrees to think about it.

Emily tells Scott Thomas (Jason Tottenham) that a retro marketing campaign for the McBaguette. She suggests adapting George Gershwin’s song, “S Wonderful” to mcwonderfu to mcmarvelous. He says to McBaguette. Scott admits to loving it when Madeline shows up. She informs him that he was scheduled to meet Savoir. He tells her that he assumed Emily was in charge. Sylvie says Emily brought McDonald’s to her. Madeline reminds her of Emily being her employee. Emily claims she planned to tell Madeline but she’s pregnant in a foreign country. Madeline’s water breaks. Scott says he no longer loves it.

Madeline doesn’t want Emily to ride in the ambulance with her to the hospital. Sylvie terminates Emily’s position.

Alfie emerges from the restaurant as Emily arrives. She informs him of Sylvie firing her and Madeline’s water breaking. He says it’s obvious her career means more to her than their relationship. She assures him that he means a lot to her. He says, “Not choosing is still a choice” before leaving.

 

Emily In Paris Synopsis

Emily finds herself struggling to tell a very pregnant Madeline that she has taken a job with Sylvie’s new company. She’s also concerned about her relationship with Alfie who will soon depart for London.

Madeline believes Emily’s going to help her launch Antoine’s brand, in France.

McDonald’s hires Emily’s friend, Doug as the Associate Manager of Global Partnership. The fast-food giant is looking for a marketing firm to launch its new McBaguette in France. Doug helps Emily get a meeting with Scott Thomas in Paris. Emily pitches the McBaguette to Sylvie who isn’t interested.

Antoine finds out that Emily’s working with Madeline and Sylvie. He warns her that Sylvie cares about no one but herself but Emily’s set on working for her. Gabriel offers to reserve some tables for her going away party for Alfie.

Mindy, Benoit, and Etienne round a gig at the La Trompette Bleue.

Emily refuses Alfie to spend some time with him alone at his place.

Sylvie agrees to meet Scott Thomas to discuss the McDonald’s deal.

Madeline finds out about Emily working on the McBaguette marketing campaign for Sylvie from Luc. She shows up at the Resto Jules Verne where she confronts Emily and Sylvie right before her water break. Sylvie fires Emily.

Emily misses Alfie’s going away party. He believes she cares more about her career than him. She fails to convince him otherwise.

Emily In Paris Review

The show is full of clichés. The script is weak and dialogue on the verge of cringeworthy with moments of seriousness. Too much emphasis is placed on Emily not being truthful to Madeline about her decision to work with Sylvie.
