As the episode opens, Eliot (Bilal Hasna) attends a Pauly P/Will/Andrew (Marcus Hodson) workout session at Cross. From the audience, Jess (Vivian Oparah) watches Eliot wearing boxing gloves get on the stage and punch Will. A pursuit ensues through the crowd, to the outside, and back inside where Eliot traps Will inside a locker room. Eliot admits to having been concerned about his welfare after he disappeared but Ken said the same thing happened between him and Will. He describes what Will did to him as traumatic when he appears and kisses him. Will apologizes, warns him not to trust Jess, sprays deodorant in his eyes, and races out the door where he encounters Jess. They get into a brief scuffle. He threatens to call the police. She reminds him that he is utilizing the muscle stimulator with a license. Will tosses Jess into the alleyway. Eliot is thrown out as well but Jess is already gone. Her phone triggers a flashback of Christina Megargee’s yearbook photo and Will’s warning to not trust her.
Baby Teeth Pub – The bartender (Robert Maxfield) watches Jess who is waiting on a phone call. She shows him her drink and feels for her phone to find it missing. Tina (Rebekah Murrell) appears and escorts her into the back where Nico (Yannisyn Sanches) is waiting. Tina says Nico is Jess’ nephew.
Eliot sees a Pauly P poster hanging on the side of a trash bin. Looking up his social media handle, he learns Pauly P has multiple social media profiles. Back at the Baby Teeth Pub, Tina shows Jess a video of her burning house from the night. She says her own family, the Megargees are responsible for setting the house on fire and killing Richard. Jess pleads with Tina to not shut her out. Tina informs her that she and Nico are leaving after Richard Megargee’s funeral. She invites Jess to go with them but she refuses to leave Eliot. Jess warns her against attending Richard’s funeral.
Eliot arrives home to find Nico and Tina there. Jess tells him that Tina’s house was burnt last night. He scolds her for not letting him know that she was okay and changing her password. After a bit of back-and-forth, she apologizes for leaving him but needed to see Tina. Jess explains to Tina why Eliot is upset and convinces her to not go back to the hotel. The next morning, Eliot listens as Jess pleads with Tina to skip Richard’s funeral before leaving for work. Eliot questions Tina’s explanation of how she found Jess. He warns her that Jess will eventually see through her lies. Nico asks Eliot if he can keep a plush frog. Eliot reluctantly says yes. Later, Eliot’s request to follow PerVerse is accepted. He sends Piana a message asking her to call him when Nico knocks and asks if he can come out of Jess’ room now. Finding Tina gone, he notifies Jess. Tina briefly watches as pallbearers carry Richard’s casket into the church before walking away.
Piana sends Eliot a message telling him to come to Bonnie’s Last Neigh. Bonnie (Rosie Cavaliero) informs her staff that the straws are shaped like a stallion dick, not a human dick. Francine (Penelope Wilton) is surprised to hear Bonnie threaten her staff.
Jess is at Richard’s funeral while Tina retrieves several bundles of cash from a hidden compartment inside a chair at possibly Richard’s house. Danny (Peter Serafinowicz) is surprised to find her there. She says he is their father. He sarcastically says “poor daddy” before reminding her that the murder weapon, a candle spike is yet to be located. He questions how she managed to escape the house fire. She leaves without the money.
Bonnie is thrilled when Eliot and Nico show up with a miniature pony. Nico tells her that it is his pony. She says it is her party. Eliot informs her that they did not bring a gift. She asks why he is there before trotting away like a horse. Honeysuckle (Rachel Evelyn) leads the horse away. Francine greets Eliot and admits to being disappointed in how Bonnie turned out.
At Richard’s funeral, Jess stares at his body in a casket when a nun approaches and asks if she loves him. Shaking her head yes, Jess retreats to the back of the church where Tina finds her. Tina tells her that she left Nico with Eliot because she needed to get money. She claims Danny confessed to setting her house on fire and stresses the need to get the money. Jess warns her against going back for the money. Danny appears on the balcony above them. A short time later, Jess goes to the house while Tina is at Richard’s funeral. The attendees hold up their hands with their index fingers bent as a sign. Retrieving the bag of money, Jess finds herself surrounded by two goons (Srbo Markovic). She claims to be a maid but they do not believe her. One of the goons displays a knife. She races toward the exit. At the church, Tina slips out of the church after Danny leaves. Jess finds herself trapped between knife-wielding goons and Danny when Tina calls for her to follow her. A pursuit ensues. While Tina and Jess are stopped, Danny’s knife plunges into a nearby tree. They flee but Danny and the goons decide to not pursue them.
Penny Tucker is assigned to take care of Nico who asks to play games on Eliot’s phone. Francine urges him to give it to him. Eliot grills Piana for information about Pauly P. She tells him that there is no need to be jealous because he is gay. He openly admits to being gay and having a fling with Pauly P. She claims to have overheard Pauly P asking someone on the phone if they had Peter. Tina and Jess arrive home to find Eliot and Nico gone. Tina becomes frantic. Nico declines an incoming call from Jess. A live video shows Nico at a party and a fire. Retrieving his phone, Nico sees several missed calls from Jess. They are waiting with the horse when Tina and Jess arrive. Jess scolds Eliot for taking Nico to a hen-do party. He reminds her of Tina abandoning Nico with him. Jess says Tina asked him to watch Nico but he denies the claim. He accuses her of only caring about Tina while Peter is still missing. She asks if he ever considered her feelings.
Eliot calls Jess “pathetic” because she lets people walk all over her. He claims Peter felt sorry for her because she didn’t know how to be herself. She says Peter planned to call off their relationship because he was “selfish” and “shallow.” She questions if Peter left to get away from him before leaving with Tina. Later, Eliot is sobbing when he remembers a receipt from The Dog Inn in Liverpool. A note on the front of the receipt reads, “So I never forget where and when 10pm.” June 24, 2017, and 10:09 is encircled by a heart. He has a flashback of Will placing the receipt in his pocket.
The Dog Inn – Eliot finds Will sitting at a table alone. Will claims he is Andrew and the social media accounts are for his acting. He says someone on Job Haven paid him 50k to go out with Eliot. He explains how he set the whole thing up. Will admits to being obsessed with him but the job required him to walk away after they kissed. Eliot questions who is Thebrutaliser333. Will says he is perfect for him. When Eliot asks him about Piana’s claim, Will says they got his order wrong. After asking if they can start over, Will kisses him. On a ship, Tina opens her backpack to display the candle spike utilized to kill Richard. Will and Eliot are discussing Jess when someone hits Will in the head. Covered in Will’s blood, Eliot watches as he falls to the ground. He frantically pleads for help.
Dead Hot Review
What may have once been a believable story is ruined by outrageous plot twists. It is not terribly difficult to follow but the question is will anyone care in the end? No one could possibly believe any of this is remotely real.
The good points are overshadowed by all the unbelievable silliness. It is like they weren’t completely satisfied with the plot and thought endless farfetched subplots would strengthen the story.
It is difficult to not be sympathetic to Eliot. Just as he is ready to move past Peter, his relationship with Will is cut short. To make matters worse, he witnesses Will’s murder.
