This Is Our Exit – The episode opens in London, England, where Joe Petrus/Muscle/David Marking (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), Dianne Harewood/Brain (Gemma Arterton), Right Hand (Tom Mothersdale), and Azar Mizouni (Tara Abboud) fill bags with bundles of cash. Muscle stuffs a golden cat in his pocket. Azar helps Youssef Mizouni (Kamel El Basha) toward the exit. 3:14 minutes and counting down, Right Hand tells Dianne that he will return for another bag of money but she orders him to leave. Alone in the fault, Dianne activates a mechanism to slide back a large painting to reveal a key. Getting rid of the key, she lifts up a box and busts it on the floor. A silver cylinder lies among the debris. Collecting the cylinder, she places a red wooden car on the ledge.
Now Washington State – Officer (Kirby), Joe, and Azar empty Devil’s (Ned Dennehy) before rolling him up in a rug. Outside, Joe utilizes Devil’s remote to locate his vehicle, where he finds a cellphone. Inside, Officer holds Devil’s eyes open while Joe scans his retina/iris. They listen to a recording of Doctor (Amara Karan) pleading with Devil while her baby wails in the background. Officer warns that they need to get out of there. Joe recognizes the locations marked in Devil’s phone except for a Kent address.
Then London, England – Dianne closes the compartment when Right Hand returns. She asks why he is there. He asks what was behind the painting. Officer alerts them of approaching security vehicles. Right Hand refuses to let Dianne go until she agrees to give him a cut. Security officers storm the building. Dianne calls Fixer (Karl Collins) to warn that Right Hand went off the book. Seconds later, Fixer snipes Right Hand.
Now Washington State – Joe douses Devil and his vehicle before setting it afire. Azar, Officer, and Joe watch the car burn. Later, Officer admits to utilizing some of the money to buy a house. Azar listens to a recording of Devil grilling Youssef for answers. When he refuses to talk, Devil fires a shot.
Before London, England – Muscle tells Brain that rumors claim she murdered an entire crew because she believed one was an informant. He says Brain burned her sister inside a car because she betrayed her. Brain denies the allegation before saying her sister and niece, who also died, were her only surviving relatives.
Kent, England – Muscle, Officer, and Azar arrive at the address from Devil’s phone. Muscle asks Azar to stay in the car in case they need to get away quickly. Officer rings the doorbell. A young boy opens the door. When the boy goes to retrieve his mum, Gwen Irving (Jodie McNee), Muscle and Officer have a look around. Officer tells Gwen that they are Elgin Lewis and Partners’ researchers. They eventually force their way into the house. Muscle orders Gwen to put down her knife and hand over her phone. Gwen pleads with him to not harm her children. Kelly Irving (Elle Foster) is none too happy to give up her phone. Muscle holds up a photo of a soldier. Gwen says he is her husband, Anton Irving, and is expected back any minute. He claims to have worked with Anton for Dianne. She admits to knowing Anton was a criminal.
Azar is startled with a ball hits the car. A 12-year-old boy (Bobby O’Neill) approaches her but she ignores him. Inside, Muscle shows Gwen a photo of Dianne. Gwen denies knowing her. He warns that the people who they stole from are coming for them. She urges him to return the stolen items. Officer accuses her of lying. Muscle continues grilling Gwen when they hear a knock at the door. Officer opens the door as Azar busts into the house. Azar threatens to shoot Gwen if she does not talk. A call from Gareth pops up on her phone. She says he is calling Muscle. Answering the phone, Muscle hears Gareth tell him to look outside. He looks out to see Gareth with a group of guys armed men. He demands Azar to hold Gwen at gunpoint. Gareth orders Muscle to give their guns to Gwen. Muscle threatens Gwen and her kids when he learns that Kelly alerted Gareth that they were there. Gareth busts in the door. A shootout ensues and ends when Muscle, Officer, and Azar flee. Azar looks at the group photo of soldiers that she took from Gwen’s house. Azar says Corporal Robert Yates is Fuse, an acquaintance of Right Hand and Dianne.
Then London, England – Right Hand is shot in the head. Brain orders Fuse/Corporal Robert Yates (Mark Field) to remain on standby as she emerges from the building. Youssef drives away while Azar demands he not leave Brain. Fuse detonates bombs inside the building. Debris flies through the air. Fixer and Brain drive a short distance before stopping to throw a bag of money on the ground for Fuse. He collects the bag and walks away.
Officer tries to get information on Yates. Muscle calls Jules but the reception is too bad to find out his location. Azar, Muscle, and Officer arrive at Fuse’s address to find him dead. A group of armed men surround Muscle. Officer and Azar find him gone. Fuse’s body has also been moved.
Two men pull Muscle out of a suitcase. They gag and restrain him in a chair. Vincent Hawkes (Eddie Izzard) orders his men to remove the gag and get him some water. He accuses Muscle of robbing his vault. He knows Muscle is David and Jules, Bud (Baeyen Hoffman), and Frankie (Maria Nash) are in Canada. Muscle threatens to kill him if he hurts his family. Hawkes orders him to kill Dianne because she stole something from him. Muscle asks if he is referring to the key. Showing him a photo of the key, Hawkes says to tell Dianne that Fuse told him where Hawkes hid the box. He tells him to shoot her in the head and return the key to him. When Muscle refuses to kill Dianne, Hawkes vows to kill Jules while Frankie and Bud watch. He adds that Bud will be the last one to be killed. Muscle agrees to kill Dianne as the episode ends.
Culprits Review
The episode is filled with flaws. An hour is already too long for an episode. The obvious flaws are probably a sign that the series should have ended after episode six. In the vault scene, with 3.5 minutes on the clock. Brain refuses to let Right Hand come back for another bag of money. However, she spends what seems like forever opening the hidden compartment to retrieve the cylinder. Right Hand returns to find her still inside the vault.
The scene in which Joe searches Devil’s phone, he shows no urgency even after saying they need to get out of there. Way too many flaws to mention them all.
As the script gets worse, so does the acting.
The episode deserves a 4.5. Get more Culprits recaps here. Support Reel Mockery by donating. Our onsite advertising is a great way to build online awareness, learn more here. Join our newly established forum to discuss the latest TV series, movies, and celebrity happenings.
