Wawam – The episode opens with Lynelle (Helen Thomson) and Professor Lee (Darren Gilshenan) preparing for a fundraiser at Ashley (Harriet Dyer) and Gordon Crapp’s (Patrick Brammall) apartment. It doesn’t take long before Gordon’s grief becomes the major topic. Ashley not only fears that he is upset over her outburst at Brian Crapp’s (John Howard) house, but she also fears that he’s becoming too clingy to Colin (Zak). Having dealt with the passing of her own father, Lynelle offers to speak with him but Ashley immediately refuses. Ashley’s fears are proven true when she interrupts Gordon’s viral meeting with his animal talent agency contact, Siobhan (Sarah Roberts).
Once Ashley learns that Gordon has taken to preparing Colin special meals so that he will live longer, she confronts him about not dealing with the grief of Brian’s passing. This segues into a slight argument where she also asks if he is upset with her. Instead of answering, he rushes off to a supposed appointment to have Colin’s glands cleaned.
It doesn’t take Chiara (Genevieve Hegney) and Brett (Michael Logo) long to share Ashley’s concerns about Gordon and Colin’s relationship. Being that the brewery is on the verge of bankruptcy, Chiara addresses the concerns in a more direct manner. This only upsets Gordon and he claims that all his efforts with Colin are to save the failing brewery.
Ashley attempts to discuss her worries about Gordon with Dawn (Lynne Porteous) over lunch, but this immediately goes wrong from the beginning. Not only does she arrive to find that Katie Crapp (Celeste Barber) has been invited along on the outing, but they are practically celebrating Brian’s passing. They apparently even have a cruise scheduled once the property sells.
Colin’s first audition turns out to be a complete failure when he is beaten out by Gina (Georgina Symes) and Doja Cat. This failure is only compounded when he returns to the bar to learn that Ashley has had lunch with her mother. He practically tells her to stay out of his sh*t which she claims is her responsibility. This ultimately results in her storming off but not before she assumes the role of the wronged party after learning that he isn’t going to Lee and Lynelle’s fundraiser.
While Gordon takes Colin to his second audition, Ashley, Megan (Emma Harvie), and Bernie (David Robert) learn all about Lynelle and Lee’s WAWAM (Women Against Women Against Men) Movement at the fundraiser. Much to Gordon’s surprise, Gina is at the audition as well but Doja Cat has seemingly been replaced by the three-legged Bark Ruffalo. When Bark and Colin are asked to audition together, it only shines a light on how untrained Colin is. Although the casting agent is initially sensitive, it doesn’t take him long to lose his temper when Gordon begins playing the wronged party card. Despite the skits at the fundraiser being no less awkward, Bernie appears to be enjoying himself, especially when Lynelle takes the stage.
Instead of letting the dismissal get him down, Gordon returns to the brewery full of ideas and spirit. Despite this, things immediately go from bad to worse when he learns that today is Brett’s last day and Chiara is putting in her two-week notice. After they both cite being broke as their reasons for leaving, Gordon agrees to sell the brewery to Jared Bingewell (Broden Kelly).
Surprisingly enough, the episode ends with Gordon learning that the sale will no longer be necessary after inheriting $500,000 from Brian’s death.
Colin From Accounts Review
I have to say I am surprised at how the series approached Gordon’s loss and grief. Given that Colin should have been a bigger attraction from the start, I felt it was almost necessary for him to latch on to Colin the way he did. I also liked the ironic spin that Lynelle and Lee put on women’s rights. In addition, I felt that Lee did a good job with the closing song at the fundraiser. Gordon’s tyrannical ranting at the second audition, on the other hand, was way too over the top and came off as cringy to me. Despite this, I’d give the episode a 5.5 out of 10.
