Bacon In The Drawer – As this episode of Colin from Accounts begins, Ashley (Harriet Dyer) asks Gordon (Patrick Brammall) if he thinks Colin will have trouble adjusting. Gordon is busy researching fertility after testicular cancer. Ashley questions why he’s being an a-hole and why he barely looked at her all morning. Gordon apologizes and insists it’s not her. He says he needs to go to work although he thought he had the morning off. Instead, Gordon visits Dr. Bruce (Tony Llewellyn-Jones). Gordon asks how likely it is he could get a woman pregnant since Bruce told him his sperm count was so low it was basically nonexistent.
Gordon believes this woman might have it wrong. Bruce isn’t eager to help him. He suggests Gordon may have a miracle baby here. Moments later, the receptionist asks Gordon whether Dr. Bruce told him anything about himself. Gordon says he mentioned he was going on long service leave. The receptionist sarcastically says there’s no scandal. At work, Ashley tells Megan (Emma Harvie) that Gordon has become weird. Megan believes this might be a good thing. Gene interrupts to find out what’s going on. Gordon meets Yvette (Annie Maynard) at a café. Yvette makes sure she tells everyone she’s pregnant. Gordon tells her he doesn’t think the child belongs to him because he had testicular cancer. Yvette calls it a miracle baby.
She tells him to finish up his fling and they’ll be there waiting for him. Yvette has already been thinking about names for the baby. Gordon meets Ashley who suggests she moved in too fast. He blurts out that Yvette is pregnant and she’s claiming it’s his baby. Gene (Glenn Hazeldine) interrupts to speak to Gordon. Gene learns that Ashley and Gordon are together. He tells Gordon that Tim died. Once they’re alone, Gordon explains to Ashley that he never thought he’d be able to get anyone pregnant, but he wants to do the right thing. Ashley asks how much they had sex since he said it wasn’t a very physical thing. Gordon reminds her this was before they got together. Ashley admits this might be too much for her. At Echo Park Brewery, Gordon tells Chiara (Genevieve Hegney) what happened.
Chiara thinks he got himself a miracle baby. Brett (Michael Logo) approaches a couple with a baby because it can’t be in there. Gordon joins them seconds later. Jules gets upset, yells at them, and leaves with their glass. The father chugs the beer after saying babies are screwed. Then, he leaves. Gordon tells Brett he doesn’t want that. Brett tells him he’ll be a great dad. Gordon tells him he’s a good friend. Ashley goes to her mom’s place where she speaks to Professor Lee (Darren Gilshenan). She thought Lynelle (Helen Thompson) kicked him out. Seconds later, Ashley approaches her mother who is playing tennis. Lynelle tells her that Gordon is going to need a strong woman right now. She thinks running around after a little one is a great way to keep the weight off.
Professor Lee joins them and learns about the pregnancy. Ashley doesn’t know why she even came. That night, Gordon and Ashley speak while lying in bed. Ashley questions why he did it before leaving the room. They sit down to speak the next day. Gordon admits he’s spent a lot of his life dodging responsibilities. He believes he should face up to this one. Ashley thinks the situation is screwed up and it complicates her life. She suggests that’s what a grown-up relationship is. Gordon tells her that Yvette is waiting for their relationship to end. Ashley goes to the vet to confront Yvette. Eventually, Yvette comes out and gives them five minutes. Gordon learns Yvette is in a relationship with a coworker. Gordon believes that means the baby might not be his. Micah (Benedict Hardie) didn’t know about the pregnancy.
He says he’ll always be there no matter who the father is. Yvette complains about her mom and how she’s a loser. She asks why she can’t have a baby with someone she actually likes. Yvette calls Micah boring. Yvette is left alone with the snake. Gordon tells Ashley they should get Colin, go to the bar, and get drunk. Ashley asks at what point in the courting process he’d tell a girl he can’t have kids. She makes Gordon tell her now. Ashley isn’t sure it’s a deal breaker. They talk about the snake until the episode ends.
Colin From Accounts Review
This episode of Colin from Accounts was mostly enjoyable although it’s starting to feel like the series is pretty much just an extended rom-com with a tinge of dog. Some scenes were moderately humorous although others were a little annoying. It’d be easy to see viewers lose interest this season because it doesn’t really seem to be going anywhere.
Colin is barely in the first two episodes. Episode one set up a possible pregnancy scare for Gordon while episode two likely eliminated that risk. I am struggling to see the core story here. At this point, it’s been one skit after another without anything really connecting them together.
The comedy bits haven’t hit their targets through two episodes although this could be personal tastes. This just seems a little aimless with no purpose right now. This episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of Colin from Accounts can be found on Reel Mockery here.
