Blessings – As this episode of Colin from Accounts begins, Ashley and Gordon go to the park to see Colin. They’re approached by the new owner, Angus (Sam Cotton), who tells them this has to stop. Angus yells for Phoebe (Sophie Bloom) to keep Peppy back there. Phoebe tells Berlin (Indiana Clarke) to stay with Peppy and she’ll be back. Angus and Gordon argue because they’re not going to give the dog back. Phoebe accuses them of stalking them. A jogger interrupts to tell them to smile before being hit by a box truck. Gordon and Ashley go to the Hopscotch Veterinary Hospital. They ask the receptionist about Dr. Yvette and whether she got the letter they sent.
They want her to sign a paper saying they’re Colin’s owner. They’re reminded this isn’t Yvette’s problem. Gordon asks for a copy of the receipt for the surgery they paid for. The receptionist doesn’t want to reissue the receipt. They leave empty-handed. Outside, Gordon questions whether they even need a pet. Gordon and Ashley discuss it. Ashley comes up with an idea before Gordon calls Matt (Bert La Bonte). Gordon says they wanted to compensate him for what happened with Bandit. He offers $100. Matt says he’ll give them a letter and backdate it for $1,000. They negotiate down to $500 and free beer for a year. At the Echo Park Brewery, Brett (Michael Logo) watches a Cameo video by Kevin Bacon urging him to move out. When Gordon arrives, Brett says his parents sent the video telling him to move out.
Brett isn’t moving out because he can’t afford crap. He agrees to send Gordon that link. Gordon walks into the back where he finds Chiara (Genevieve Hegney) possibly taking naughty photos of herself. She admits she is sort of sexting with Meggles. Gordon forces her to tell Brett moments later. At work, Ashley tells Megan (Emma Harvie) that trying to get Colin back is taking a toll. She questions whether she wants a boyfriend or just a dog. Gene is giving instructions by the time they arrive. Megan gets the picture from Chiara and immediately shows Ashley. Gene (Glenn Hazeldine) interrupts and tells them what to do with their security passes. He sends them to bed seven to see their old friend Mango Man. Ashley doesn’t know why he’s there. Megan argues Mango Man needs a social worker.
Matt arrives at the brewery with Justin Shelley who is Matt’s lawyer. Chiara interrupts before Gordon can sign any paperwork. They soon learn that Justin gets free beer too. Matt asks what he wants. Ashley and Gordon drag him to Angus’s house to get the dog back. Matt remembers Angus so they catch up. He explains he put in their pool. Matt refuses to abide by the deal so Gordon and Ashley leave empty-handed again. In the car, Gordon talks about getting a lawyer before they see Colin nearby with Berlin. They contemplate grabbing the dog from her. Before they do it, they agree they can’t because there are too many people and she’d tell her parents. Later, Gordon almost throws Colin’s stuff away. Ashley stops him because she says they can’t give up. They try to find something they have in common since Colin was the only thing.
Gordon insists they can figure it out as they go. Phoebe and Angus show up at their door because they want to know where Colin is. Angus tries to get physical with Gordon because he’s been drinking. Yvette (Annie Maynard) arrives with the dog. She says she’s the dog’s vet and she knows who paid for the substantial vet bills. Yvette goes on to say he was found on the street and chipped. The vet chipped him when Gordon and Ashley brought him in. Phoebe tells Angus it’s over and Berlin might’ve left the side gate open. She says he’s not Peppy and they’ll get another dog. Before they leave, Angus asks about the jogging guy. Ashley says he’s going to be okay. Once they leave, Ashley admits to Gordon that the guy died. Yvette claims she’s just doing her job. She asks Gordon to walk her to her vehicle while Ashley stays with Colin.
In private, Yvette tells Gordon that she’s pregnant. The baby is his and she’s going to keep it. Yvette drives away.
Colin From Accounts Review
It’s nice to see Colin from Accounts return for a second series since the show has been consistently watchable from the beginning. Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer make a great pair. The remaining cast adds a bit of uniqueness to the series. While this is billed as a comedy, I am not sure it really excels in that category since I rarely find myself laughing.
The comedy is very subtle so it’s not going to hit the right notes for everyone. There is a cleverness to everything though and that should be appreciated. Nevertheless, the series is good in its own way. The character relationships really drive the story through all the silliness in pretty much every scene.
Each episode is short and straight to the point making the series a pleasant watch. It just needs more Colin and more emotional depth. The latter is hopefully coming as Gordon and Ashley work through their relationship now that Gordon could be a father. The opening episode was enjoyable overall. It scores a 6.5 out of 10.
