My Amiga – As the fifth episode of Colin From Accounts begins, Ashley (Harriet Dyer) has a dream of being in bed with James (Tai Hara) until she is awoken by two men who need the bed. When she gets up, Megan (Emma Harvie) tells her that she can stay, but they had to take the expensive bed. Bernie (David Roberts) apologizes and introduces Ashley to his sisters, Blyth, Beth, Babs, and Louise. Ashley is told they need her out because Nathan is flying in from Barcelona in a few days. Megan asks where they were when nan was dying because she and Ashley were there. Blyth accuses her of being there to steal their mom’s morphine. Bernie comes back to tell Ashley she is out. She takes Colin to Gordon (Patrick Brammall) who seems preoccupied.
Ashley wants to ask if she can stay, but Yvette (Annie Maynard) comes out and interrupts before she can. As Yvette leaves, she tells Gordon she’ll get the clothes she left upstairs next time. Ashley admits that was quick since she only left five days ago. Gordon tried to call her again and again so he didn’t think she wanted to hang out. Ashley tries to figure out if Yvette is the reason things went weird the other night. Gordon has to take a call. He invites Ashley invites but she refuses. Gordon takes a call inside before telling Dave that they need the invoice paid as soon as possible. He gets hung up on. Ashley texts James to tell him she dreamed he said she has a lasagna face. He offers to make it up to her in real life.
Gordon comes out and frightens Ashley who says she almost got her rape alarm out. When she learns that her ride is canceled, Gordon says she can come to his bar and work from there. She eventually agrees to come so Gordon goes back inside to get Colin. Once they arrive, Chiara (Genevieve Hegney) complains that they have six weeks of unpaid invoices. Chiara is introduced to Ashley who she calls very nice-looking and normal. Brett (Michael Logo) argues with someone on the phone. He asks whose idea it was to have trivia night only to be reminded it was his. Ashley steps away to get to work. Brett tells Gordon he should marry her although Chiara isn’t sure she’d say yes. Gordon tells Chiara that he didn’t think Ashley was interested but he isn’t sure now.
He is worried about the age difference. Chiara admits Ashley is the best one he has ever brought them. Before the brewery can open, the power goes out so Chaira questions whether Gordon paid the power bill. When guests enter and say the place is dead, Chiara tells them they’re conserving energy. They make up an elaborate story about donating money for an environmental cause. The guests reveal that Dudders (Zachary Raabe) is getting married so they end up buying two of everything. Gordon sits down with Ashley and tells her he forgot to pay the power bill again. He goes on to admit he is bad at asking for money which is why he hasn’t asked her about the 6k she owes him. Gordon believes it was his fault since he is the one who hit the dog. Ashley says he just got like 40% hotter by taking responsibility. Gordon tells her to stay for trivia night because it’ll be funny if the power doesn’t come back on.
He doesn’t think Yvette will come since he didn’t ask her to. Ashley says she might be seeing someone later. Gordon hides when Yvette comes in before telling Chiara that she spend the night. Chiara tells him to slither away and she’ll take care of it. Ashley calls Monica to get an extension. She tells Brett to sit down and read one of the invoices to her. Brett says it is Dave from Glenmore (Daniel Widdowson) and he owes them over $8,500. Brett asks if he has a nice speaking voice because he is worried about the questions tonight. He tells her that Gordon is worth it once he gets out of his own way. Yvette comes over and suspects Ashley has found someone new, but Brett says she is his Amiga or female friend. She wants to know if Ashley is seeing Gordon before saying they look weird together because she is too young for him.
Ashley tells her she is going to do what she wants. At the hospital, Ashley surprises James when he is making out with a coworker. She explains it was her rape alarm before reminding James that she told him about this room. She warns Tessa (Fely Irvine) that she is going to report her for having sex in here. She asks James to screw off. At the brewery, Yvette keeps staring at James so Chiara agrees she might be a little unhinged. Ashley drops her assignment off with Gene (Glenn Hazeldine) and learns he knows Gordon. She is surprised to find out that Gordon and Gene had cancer. As she leaves, Gene asks her to say hello to Flash who is a beautiful man and one of the good ones. She gets an apology text from James but ignores it. The power comes back on just in time for Brett’s trivia night. Gordon finds Yvette taking part in the trivia night but refuses to join her.
Yvette gets mad at him and mimics him. Gordon pleads with her to let go of him because he is working. As he walks away, Yvette yells that he looks like a creepy uncle. Later, Brett tells Gordon and Chiara about Ashley calling AGL and everything. She got them an extension saying her dad had a stroke or something. Brett goes on to say she signed them off using Colin from accounts. Later that night, Ashley runs to the brewery and finds Gordon letting Colin use the bathroom outside. Gordon believes her talents are wasted in the medical field. He invites her inside for a drink. She learns that Yvette is gone and they’ll need to find a new vet. Ashley asks how he knows Gene Howell. Gordon hasn’t spoken to him in years. Ashley reminds him he never mentioned that he had cancer because she thinks it is important.
Gordon admits he had it. It was in his nuts so he only has one now. He goes on to tell her that it had something to do with the other night because the camera was inserted in his penis. Ashley says it is a relief to hear that the test came back clean. They go in for a drink while Brett continues with the trivia questions. Dave shows up and punches Gordon in the stomach. He says Dave from Glenmore is happy to pay his invoices, but he needs to use his manners next time. Ashley insists she didn’t say anything although Colin was a bit of a cunt. She thinks he might need to see a doctor tonight. When he asks if she knows one, Ashley says she sleeps with one and it is herself.
Colin From Accounts Review
Colin from Accounts is a charming series that is slowly building up the relationship between Ashley and Gordon. The jokes don’t always hit the mark, but they’re still creative. It is often hard to judge performances in a comedy like this although Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer are perfect for their respective roles. The other performers have done well too.
The episode was lighthearted and a bit touching at the end once Ashley found out about Gordon’s prior cancer scare. Colin from Accounts would be a great binge over the holidays and New Year. The episode was very enjoyable thanks to the oddball humor that might go too far for some viewers. The episode scores a 7 out of 10. Recaps of Colin from Accounts can be found on Reel Mockery here.
