Cold Call Finale Recap

kirk wiley cold call

At the beginning of the episode, June (Sally Lindsay) takes Elisabeth (Elizabeth Counsell) to the nursing home where she used to work. She tells Elisabeth that nobody is going to help her. Meanwhile, Kirk Wiley (Paul Higgins) tells Laura (Samantha Power) about June taking his mother. He explains that he cannot get the money in cash and that is the problem. Seconds later, June visits Hana (Taj Atwal) and tries to convince her to flee with her. Hana wants to know what is going on. June sits her down and tells her that this isn’t completely about money. She tells her daughter that she has been helping everyone yet nobody has helped her.

Then, June tries to get in touch with Des (Daniel Ryan). Laura and Kirk find out that June completed the wedding preparations but she changed a few things. Lizzie (Katie Redford) is thrilled with her dress but Kirk is not. He gets anxious and ends up ripping one of the sleeves for the dress. Laura promises that they can fix it. June finally gets in touch with Des and tells him that Kirk knows she is involved. June tries to convince Des to return and help her deal with things but he refuses. Laura and Kirk argue about his decision to let June stay despite knowing that she stole from them.

June receives a call from Kirk to arrange the pickup. Kirk says that they can meet at the wedding. June tells him that he’ll get Elisabeth as soon as she gets the money. Simon Zima (Geoffrey McGivern) and his bodyguards listen to the phone call. When it ends, Zima says that they’ll find Elisabeth. However, he doesn’t seem too worried about her. Des returns to his hideout and gets caught by Simon’s men. Kirk speaks with Lizzie. He tells her that he did everything he could for her. She doesn’t believe it. She tells him that he did it for himself. While Lizzie gets married, Des is beaten by Simon’s men.

Kirk and Laura find out that things have changed for the reception. June arrives a few moments later. She heads inside and speaks with Kirk near the swimming pool. He belittles her for being a carer and doing what she has done. In return, June says she got tired of people like him talking down to her. She gives him some cards he can read for his speech but Kirk doesn’t want to do it. Kirk warns her that Zima’s security team will have her killed before she can leave. June returns to the party and Kirk tries to pull himself together in the bathroom. June tells Laura that she can still get away from Kirk. After that, Lizzie thanks June for her dress.

Lizzie tells her that she is going to wake up in a hotel tomorrow and she’ll never have to come back. June tells Lizzie that her father might not be in the insurance business. Des begins speaking to Zima and his guards. Unfortunately, he cannot lead them to Elisabeth and that is a problem. Laura asks Kirk about Elisabeth and he claims that he is dealing with it. Des is killed. Kirk goes outside where he is confronted by his daughter who wants to know what he does for a living. Kirk prepares for his speech. Surprisingly, he begins reading what June wrote for him. He goes off script and continues until Zima steps in and stops him from telling more.

Laura packs her bags and leaves after everything calms down. Lizzie leaves the house as well. Zima approaches June outside. He tells her about snapping Des’s back and killing him. He admits that he doesn’t care about finding Elisabeth. He tells June that he is going to kill her before going after her daughter. June tries to grab a knife and escape in the house but she is trapped and hauled outside. While she is led outside, Simon tells Kirk that everything is going to be fine. Simon turns his back on Kirk and he slams the champagne bottle into his head twice. Then, he drowns Simon in the swimming pool. Kirk goes outside and tells the guards that their boss is dead.

The guards leave Kirk with June. Kirk doesn’t kill June. He calls one of his boys so they can get rid of the corpse in his swimming pool. Kirk gives June a credit card for an account with 100 grand on it. He explains that nobody knows about that account. June tells him where he can find his mother. Kirk allows June to leave before going inside and throwing his phone into the pool. We jump forward and see that Hana has had the baby. June is allowed to hold it. Hana is still worried that they’ll come after her mother.

June doesn’t believe that they’re going to come after her. She leaves and heads for the train station. Along the way, she calls and places a first-class flight and asks about a limo service.

Cold Call Review

I saw the bad scores elsewhere and was very worried that the finale was going to be awful. While it wasn’t perfect, I didn’t think it was too bad. The episode wrapped everything up but I think it might’ve been too easy for June. She escaped and got everything she wanted. Des and Zima were killed. I thought it was somewhat silly for June to take Elisabeth to her former employer too. They would know that Elisabeth wasn’t her mother.

The finale wasn’t horrible but it could have been a lot better. Either way, I enjoyed all four episodes. It kept me entertained for 3 episodes and 3/4ths of another. That is more than most shows can do so I’ll be lenient with the finale. For that, I’d give the finale a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Cold Call on Reel Mockery!

  1. Why do all these dramas that start so well end up as a load of crap? This was really good until the last 20 minutes when it went completely off the rails. I won’t be watching any more Channel 5 dramas if this an example of how pathetic they turn out to be!

    1. I barely remember this one honestly, but if it was Channel 5 that’s probably your answer. Pretty common with that network, but some of the others are equally bad about rushing endings and making them silly.
