Utopia – As the sixth episode of Class of ’07 begins, Sister Bicky (Debra Lawrance) orders the girls to keep digging for the time capsule. Bicky says they were so caught up with their other dramas that they didn’t even realize another person was living on campus. She goes on to say she prayed that she’d be stuck with anyone but this cohort. Bicky says they were the biggest bunch of b!tches she ever taught. They remind her of the names they used to call her until she gets upset and leaves. Once they get the time capsule, Bicky asks them what happened to this class. Although they were always troublemakers, they’re shaving heads and cutting off toes now.

Bicky suggests someone would’ve been killed in a week if she hadn’t stepped in. She scolds them before telling them to come get their letters to their future selves. Phoebe (Steph Tisdell) reads her letter out loud first. In the letter, she belittles herself for giving up everything to study hard. She admits that she has enjoyed getting to know them all. The others read their letters, but Saskia rips her into pieces. Amelia (Megan Smart) doesn’t have a letter because she had left school by then. Bicky admits she had forgotten about her mother. Zoe (Emily Browning) tries to get Amelia to open up about that. Amelia confesses that her mother died and that is why she had to leave school.

Amelia reveals her mother took her own life. Zoe begins crying and runs off so Amelia goes after her. Amelia catches up with her and says it is okay, but Zoe blames herself for everything. This whole time, Zoe convinced herself that it was Amelia who screwed her over. Amelia says she sees her clearly now and they don’t have to do this because they’re not friends. She suggests they would’ve had nothing to talk about because their lives are so different. Amelia doesn’t think it would’ve held up either way. Zoe insists it would’ve never gone this way if she would’ve known what happened. Meanwhile, everyone else begins telling the truth. Renee (Emma Horn) says she isn’t a doctor, but everyone knew that already.

Saskia (Caitlin Stasey) apologizes to everyone. She tells Genevieve that there was a naivety about her that she resented. She was jealous because Genevieve has this incredible strength of character. Genevieve (Claire Lovering) accepts her apology. After they leave, Saskia approaches Bicky to see if there is anything she’d like to apologize for. Bicky mentions that Saskia was disciplined for smoking behind the assembly hall. When Saskia pushes her on that, Bicky insists detention is sometimes good for the girls and she always had her reasons. During lunch, Zoe says she is making a grand gesture and the girls get sick while eating fish. Genevieve ends up throwing up. Zoe wants Amelia to have dinner with her to see if it holds up, but Amelia wants her to stop.

Zoe asks why she came to the reunion if their friendship was really that meaningless to her. Amelia says just because two people shared something doesn’t mean it’ll last. Zoe says message received before it thunders and scares them. Amelia agrees to eat with her as long as she doesn’t touch anything metal. Bicky can’t believe the women have been eating fish when the sea is riddled with disease. She asks Renee for help only to remember that she isn’t a doctor. Renee complains that no one thought she was a doctor because no one ever expects big things from her. Phoebe tells her that good medicine is kindness. Phoebe says she might not have that piece of paper, but she makes people feel better.

Renee calls her a good friend. Megan (Chi Nguyen) takes Tegan’s letter so she can see what she really wrote. Tegan (Bernie Van Tiel) says she hopes Megan isn’t her only friend in 10 years. Zoe tries to get Amelia to open up about the farm. Amelia surprises her when she says they supply peanuts to peanut butter factories. Zoe says she doesn’t understand why she didn’t tell her what happened. Amelia didn’t want to tell anyone so Danny still thinks she died of a heart attack. Zoe tries to find out more, but she ends up getting sick because of the fish. Amelia throws up first before blaming the fish. Zoe goes next. Tegan tries to explain herself to Megan. Laura (Rose Flanagan) interrupts to see if they have a spare bucket.

Tegan tells Megan that she is an alcoholic and she doesn’t want to try to get messed up anymore. She takes the bucket and goes with Laura. Amelia tries to leave, but Zoe worries she is going to get electrocuted. Amelia touches the chain and gets shocked before crashing to the ground. Zoe checks on her and realizes she just shat herself. She confesses that she did it like 20 seconds in. Bicky tells Saskia to come back to the dorm. Saskia believes she knew what he was doing to her and questions whether she knew about the others. Saskia ends up falling. Amelia talks to Zoe about the couch having an imprint of her mother. She’d sit on that couch day in and day out.

One day, she harvested half of the peanut on a whim. When you grow up like that, you think it is inevitable that it is in you as well. Once it finally happened, it was nothingness instead of sadness. Now, Amelia has no idea who she is without the antidepressants. Zoe insists she isn’t her mother. Zoe’s biggest regret is that Amelia had to go through all that alone. In the morning, Amelia tells Zoe she feels better having it all out in the open. She is done with secrets. Bicky tells Saskia that she knew he was texting girls and asking them to save him under another name so she’d confiscate the phones. She also knew he was meeting girls on the boundary of the campus.

She intercepted the girls and punished them for being out of bounds. Bicky watched his favorites and found excuses to put them into detention. She knows they were imperfect solutions so she doesn’t expect to be forgiven. Bicky knows she could do more. Later, the girls tell Bicky that they could’ve been having scrambled eggs and parsley this entire time. She was going to tell them, but they got custody of the tuck shop. Zoe asks what it’d say if they were to write a letter to their younger selves now. Genevieve regrets being such a narc in school since she never even smoked a cigarette. Teresa regrets not having a baby shower. Saskia regrets not getting rid of Garrity when she had the chance.

Megan regrets she took her bucket for granted and will only fill it with water from now on. Renee isn’t sure she has any regrets. Amelia regrets not learning all the words to “One Week” by Barenaked Ladies. They begin trying to rectify those regrets. Bicky helps the girls get rid of Garrity. Amelia tells Zoe that she has run out of antidepressants. Zoe thinks she’ll be okay because she’ll make sure of it. Laura reminds everyone that they forgot about her so she wants a real funeral. The girls agree to have one tomorrow. Sandy (Sarah Krndija) sees Ridge Heights in front of her so she starts paddling towards it.

 

Class Of ’07 Review

The sixth episode of Class of ’07 was a better episode than the last few because it took itself a little more seriously. The humor was more tolerable although there are still a few cringe moments here and there. The episode did a good job of building or rebuilding the relationship between Zoe and Amelia so it’ll be interesting to see where that goes.

It is also good that the women have tried to fix their past regrets while hopefully bonding as a result. Plus, there are many fun possibilities now that Sandy is returning to Ridge Heights. Overall, this was just a more enjoyable episode and probably showed what Class of ’07 can be when it is at its best. It scores a 6 out of 10.
