Pancake Rage – As the second episode of Class Of ’07 begins, Amelia (Megan Smart) cooks pancakes and takes several pills. Zoe (Emily Browning) tells Teresa (Sana’a Shaik) welcome to the worst hangover of her life. During breakfast, Sandy (Sarah Krndija) won’t stop crying so Genevieve (Claire Lovering) tries to get her to quit. Teresa enters and asks why they’re not panicking. Zoe tells her that no one really knows what is going on right now although the power is out and there is no phone signal. Teresa reminds them that they’re out of pancakes. Renee (Emma Horn) suggests Sandy will share hers, but Sandy refuses to do that.
Sandy throws it across the room and tells her to go get it. Genevieve asks the girls what their plan is. Genevieve thinks they should pick a leader while Saskia says they can all chip in and share. Everyone is still angry at Zoe for not telling them about the flood. Genevieve tells her to clean up. As for Genevieve, she is going to check on the food and water they have. Zoe asks to speak to Amelia who refuses and continues on her way. Amelia goes rowing with Saskia and others. She remembers rowing with Saskia when she was younger and being told to get out of the boat because she doesn’t want to be on the team. In the present, Amelia curses her.
She dives into the water and begins swimming away. Meanwhile, Sandy frantically searches for her bag. Genevieve reminds her it is a waste of womanpower to search for a bag when they need candles and torches. Tegan and Megan suggest they need to make it look like they’re doing something. Amelia goes under the water and stays submerged until she is frightened by an electric toothbrush. She tries to swim back to the island. Once she goes back inside, she asks Renee if she can get her some Prolexoft. They agree to keep that between them. Amelia confronts Zoe outside to ask whether she threw a brick through the radio club window. Zoe thinks she can make the radio work, but not without power.
Zoe shows her that she has been scorching a help sign in the grass. Amelia tells her that it won’t work because she is using petrol. Amelia finds Phoebe (Steph Tisdell) using the generator so she turns it off. Phoebe tells her she is on a deadline, but Amelia says this is life and death stuff. Amelia says there is no market. The currency is now food, water, batteries, and tampons. Phoebe doesn’t believe it and thinks Amelia will feel silly when they get out of there tomorrow. As they carry the generator, Zoe tells Amelia that Danny will be okay. Amelia says she doesn’t get to talk about that because she knows nothing about her life. Tegan and Megan try to find a clipboard.
When Megan opens a filing cabinet, she finds a drawer full of alcohol and drugs. Amelia and Zoe mess with the radio equipment. The equipment shuts off abruptly. When Amelia leaves, she finds Genevieve trying to stop Sandy from eating everything. It descends into chaos so Amelia leaves them alone. Teresa knows it is stupid, but she can’t stop thinking about her next IVF appointment in two weeks. Saskia tells her they have to stay positive since they don’t know what is going on. Saskia tells her about a period when money wasn’t coming in and they gave staff the option to leave. Nobody left because it isn’t a failure until someone says it is over. Saskia thinks she should keep taking the hormone shots she has left in her bag.
She tells Teresa that she is going to go home. Renee breaks into lockers and steals pills. She finds them elsewhere until walking in on Megan and Tegan getting high. Sandy walks by and admits she showered. She tells Renee she should do the same and grab a bed before everyone else does. Genevieve serves the women and reveals there is only frozen stuff left now. Renee gives Amelia the pills. She also tells her that Zoe is making sure no one takes her old boarding school room from her. They agree that Zoe tries to tell them although they didn’t listen. The girls try to make Zoe wash up the dishes, but no water comes out of the faucet. After she gets sprayed in the face, she tells the others that the plumbing is screwed.
They laugh at her for getting sprayed. Saskia and Teresa return. When Saskia shakes her head, Sandy says she knew that they were screwed. She goes on to tell everyone to stay away from 2F because she isn’t sleeping in a bunk bed like a prison b!tch. Genevieve says Megan and Tegan have allocated the rooms so everyone has a bed. Laura shows them the clipboard that says otherwise so Sandy tries to run to the room she wants. Once everyone leaves, Amelia sits with Saskia and tells her they’re out of fresh food and water. Saskia apologizes for hurting her. The authority they all look to her with is projected and she never asked for any of it.
Amelia says they need a b!tch and they never lost a race when she was captain. Later, Saskia walks through the halls and sees chaos among the women. She interrupts Sandy who is busy telling Teresa everything is dead. Saskia helps Teresa with her injection. Phoebe throws a cigarette on the grass and starts a fire because of the petrol Zoe poured out earlier. Saskia tries to help Sandy find her bag, but they run into Zoe instead. The three of them sit down nearby as Sandy begins crying and wishing she’d never come. After Sandy falls asleep, Saskia says she hated this place while Zoe loved it. When they discuss the possibility of surviving at sea in a row boat, Saskia says anything is possible until you decide to fail.
They push Sandy and the boat into the water. Then, Saskia blames Zoe and claims it was her idea. Saskia says she is a virus and they will not survive if they bring her back tonight. Phoebe watches as they go back inside. They go to the room where Amelia is staying. She thanks Zoe for saving her old room, but Saskia makes her leave.
Class Of ’07 Review
Class of ’07 has an interesting story through two episodes even though it is unfolding rather slowly. The women from the class of ’07 are stuck at their old school after a catastrophic flood left them surrounded by water. They’re quickly returning to their old personalities with Saskia taking control near the end of the episode. Zoe attempted to save Amelia’s old room for her, but Saskia took it in the blink of an eye.
The series is trying to provide a different take on the story with its humor, but the success of that will depend on the viewer’s tastes. Some of the jokes are quirky enough to work while others can be a little annoying. In fact, some viewers may find the characters annoying period. When the jokes are dropped and the dialogue gets serious, the show really excels so hopefully there is more of the latter in future episodes.
Personally, I enjoyed Creamerie more but even that series wasn’t for everyone. So far, Class of ’07 is just okay although those who enjoy the humor will probably like it a lot more. The episode scores a 6 out of 10. Recaps of Class of ’07 can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support us at this link. Learn more about advertising on Reel Mockery here.
