Bird Shit – As the first episode of Class Of ’07 begins, Zoe (Emily Browning) is on a reality television show called The Match. When she gets rejected, Zoe gets angry and lashes out at the man in question. She begins destroying the set and calling the entire show fake. Zoe sets one of the doves free only for it to poop in her mouth leading to the video going viral. Six months later, Zoe works alone when her dog begins barking. The birds above her form an odd pattern. There is an earthquake of sorts and water begins running through the crack. Zoe retrieves the emergency phone and learns that there is a severe weather alert so she is supposed to evacuate to higher ground.

She hears another crash outside before seeing more water on the ground. Water begins shooting upward. Amelia (Megan Smart) hangs out with Genevieve (Claire Lovering) and questions whether Zoe is supposed to be coming. Genevieve admits she took over the school captain role when Amelia disappeared midway through the year. Amelia learns about Saskia (Caitlin Stasey) who has changed and is now donating tampons to women in poor countries. Genevieve heard that Amelia left because she got expelled for sleeping with a staff member, but Amelia denies that. When Amelia gets a call, Gene learns that she married him.

Amelia tells her husband she might head home because Zoe isn’t there. She is encouraged to stay and wait for her. The call with Danny ends abruptly. Zoe follows her dad’s advice and tries to reach the school. Teresa (Sana’a Shaik) and Amelia continue hanging out at the reunion. Sandy complains about traveling halfway around the world to meet with her best friend who only wants to talk about her shriveled womb. When Amelia says she is going to go, Renee (Emma Horn) tries to get her to stick around. Zoe reaches Ridge Heights Catholic Ladies College. She finds a woman outside urinating so she asks her about the emergency meeting point.

Amelia comes outside just in time to see Zoe. Back inside, Phoebe speaks to Renee. They talk about what they do. Renee lies when she says she is a doctor since she is a nail technician. They’re all surprised when Zoe enters the building. None of them know anything about the emergency. Zoe has to get loud when telling them what is going on, but they don’t want to believe her. When Zoe steps away, Saskia tries to stop Sandy (Sarah Krndija) from filming Zoe and being mean. In the bathroom, Zoe tries to convince herself that everything is okay. Amelia comes into the bathroom to check on her. Zoe insists she is okay and blames being off the grid for six months.

Zoe changes the subject before leaving that Amelia and Danny took over the farm for her parents. Zoe makes Amelia sniff her forehead like they did in the past so she can steal her keys. Then, she tells her that she can’t leave. Amelia agrees to stay for a while. Zoe learns that Tegan and Megan were out on the fingering bench. Zoe approaches them and they begin talking about Laura Cunningham. She is told that Laura died and there is a sad plaque for her. Zoe asks if they have anything stronger because she wants to go up really fast. She takes the drugs before heading back inside. They end up partying through the night. Later, Amelia tries to get her keys from Zoe so she can leave.

Zoe suggests she should be grateful that Amelia is saying goodbye this time instead of just disappearing. They argue briefly before Amelia steps away. Amelia turns off the music to tell everyone they have a situation at the fingering bench. They go outside and find that the gazebo is surrounded by water. The others try to figure out how to help Tegan and Megan since they’re off their faces. When Saskia and Zoe try to cross the water, they’re frightened by an alligator that jumps out and growls at them. Everyone goes inside and tries to find a way to get them across. Laura Cunningham (Rose Flanagan) surprises everyone by revealing she isn’t dead after all.

Zoe suggests using balls to get them across while Sandy worries about finding her bag. Amelia tries to get answers from Zoe who says she tried to tell them. The group manages to get Tegan and Megan across the water. Then, they go inside to discuss everything that is going on. Zoe begins arguing with the others as a crack appears. A hole appears under Zoe’s feet. Amelia saves her to prevent her from falling into the water. They end up surrounded by water as the episode ends.

 

Class Of ’07 Review

The opening episode of Class Of ’07 set up an interesting premise that could transform into a fascinating story in future episodes. However, it is clear very early on that some viewers are not going to enjoy Class of ’07 due to its sophomoric humor and ridiculous dialogue. The performances are decent although it is hard to judge any performer based on a series like this because it is so far out there.

Truthfully, this is one of those shows that viewers will have to experiment with on their own. If they enjoy the humor, they may love everything Class of ’07 has to offer. Still, many viewers are likely going to be put off by this style of humor. It will be interesting to see how the story develops and whether it becomes a little more serious.

It may be better to watch a few more episodes before deciding whether Class of ’07 is worth the binge since the episode was pretty short. The opening episode was just okay though.
