Cardinal Series 2 Episode 5 Recap

john cardinal series 2 episode 5

As the episode begins, John Cardinal (Billy Campbell) has a nightmare. A birdwatcher finds Toof’s (Brock Morgan) body. The police emerge on the scene right away. A tire impression is taken. Lise (Karine Vanesse) puts two and two together. She believes that Toof sold the heroin to Rachel. Cardinal and Lise agree that the same gun was likely used to shoot Red (Alex Paxton-Beesley) and Toof. Meanwhile, Ray (Bruce Ramsay) meets with Alan Clegg (Kevin Hanchard). Clegg is happy that Lasalle is finally getting what he deserves. However, he is not happy that Ray shot Red. Clegg provides Ray with information about Red. Noelle Dyson (Kristen Thomson) sits with her sick relative.

She meets with Lise at the office. It is clear that Dyson is distracted. Lise tells her about Toof. John and Lise visit Toof’s mother right away. They break the news to her. She tells them about Leon and gives them a brief description of Ray. She calls him Northwind. Kevin (Jonathan Keltz) calls Red’s place of work. He learns that she never returned to work. He freaks out. Meanwhile, Jerry Commanda (Glen Gould) speaks with Lasalle. Commanda is unable to get anything helper from him. Commanda tells Lasalle to stay off of his reserve or he will have trouble. John and Lise meet with Chin (Patrick Kwok-Choon). They learn that the same maggot was found on both bodies, so the murders are indeed connected. Cardinal gives his team up an update right away. They tell Clegg about Ray.

Commanda agrees to visit Moose Bay to ask about Northwind. Musgrave meets with Tammy. He learns that he has been set up when John enters. John blackmails Musgrave and tells him to stop preventing Lise from having the NIS promotion. Commanda speaks with Chief Northwind. At first, the man doesn’t want to talk. He eventually admits to knowing Ray. He explains that Ray hurt his dog and forced him to cooperate. He also gives Commanda his full name. Tammy visits Catherine. He tells her about her relationship with John. He returns the money. She admits to using John and the phone call to Catherine to blackmail him. Meanwhile, Ray goes fishing. Leon approaches him. Ray tells him that his truck has been parked for awhile. He instructs Leon to head into town and wait for his call.

John and Lise manage to narrow down their search for Leon. Dyson tells Lise that she is wanted by the NIS in Ottawa next month. After Leon leaves, Kevin steals the truck and flees. Catherine drops Tammy off at the motel. She drives by the police station and spots Lise speaks with John. She continues driving past. Lise knows that John helped her out, but he doesn’t tell her how. He admits he doesn’t want his partner to take a fall because of him. Kevin gets high and wrecks the truck. Red identifies a picture of Leon. Kevin heads back to Ray’s cabin. Leon checks out Red’s new house. When he returns home, he notices that Kevin is bloody. Kevin explains that he fell from a rock while hiking. Kevin asks Leon for more drugs. He is told to speak with Ray. Commanda speaks with Clegg about Ray Northwind. A fire breaks out at the halfway house. Leon uses the opportunity to kidnap Red.

John stops near the road and spots a dead deer. When he returns home, he tells Catherine why he followed her and embarrassed her in front of her children. She insists that they both need a little more freedom. That night, John tells Catherine about Lise. They’re interrupted when the truck is discovered. The truck is traced back to Raymond Bedford. Kevin breaks into Ray’s shack. He tries to steal some heroin, before noticing the ritual stuff. He is stabbed by Ray as the episode ends.

Cardinal Review

This episode of Cardinal was great. It was slightly too easy for Leon to kidnap Red though. Now, Ray has Kevin and Red just where he wants them. It is definitely time for another ritual. However, the detectives now know who Ray is. Will they be able to stop him before he can make another sacrifice? What will happen to Clegg? Will the detectives learn that he betrayed them? The episode did a good job of setting up the finale. For that, it scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Cardinal right now!
