As the episode begins, Aulus (David Morrissey) visits a cave. He learns from his comrade that Pellenor is dead and Kerra (Kelly Reilly) is set to be Queen. Aulus claims that the Gods wrote the stuff on the cave walls. He leaves a message for an old friend. Kerra watches as Pellenor’s body is tended to. The Druids tear his body to shreds. Veran (Mackenzie Crook) tells a young girl that he can see everything now. Kerra has until sunset to make her decision. She will defy the Gods if she says no. Lindon (Stanley Weber) keeps an eye on Kerra. She visits her tent and begins to panic. Gildas (Joe Armstrong) complains about the Gods. Queen Antedia (Zoe Wanamaker) tells him to send for Aulus. Amena (Annabel Scholey), Phelan (Julian Rhind-Tutt) and the others watch as Pellenor’s body is laid to rest.
Amena tells Phelan that this was Kerra’s plan all along. Phelan has enough and slaps his wife. They fight a bit before Phelan pulls a knife on her. She orders him to sleep with her and he does. She continues to ridicule him. Amena verbally abuses her husband constantly. Lindon watches as he leaves and visits Kerra. Kerra insists that Phelan should be king. She claims that she doesn’t want any of it. Phelan tells Kerra what the prisoner was shouting as they left the citadel. He claims that everything was planned. Kerra promises that she never saw any of this coming. Phelan decides to return to the citadel to speak with the Roman prisoner again. Divis (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) finds the cave and the helmet Aulus left behind.
He throws it out and starts a fire in the cave. Lindon speaks with a drunken Amena. She claims that Phelan and Kerra sleep together. Amena reminds him of the oath he took to her. Lindon tells her that she is beautiful on the outside. Aulus travels to meet with Queen Antedia. They speak about Kerra being crowned Queen. Aulus learns that they have a spy inside of the Cantii citadel. The spy told them about Kerra’s visit to Aulus. In return, he asks them about the spy. Kerra blames herself for everything. Lindon tries to comfort her. He offers to run away with her. Lindon tells her that Veran is a devil. Aulus tells Queen Antedia the truth. The Queen wants Aulus to do something to prove his true. She tells him to kneel down and kiss her feet.
Aulus refuses. He offers to kiss her lovely hand. She seems to accept the offer. Aulus forces his comrade to kiss her feet. He does and storms off. Antedia also tells Aulus that she wants the head of Veran. Aulus seems willing to help. Once they leave, Antedia admits to Gildas that she does not trust him. Divis marches on and runs into Quane. Divis asks where Willa and Veran have gone. Divis claims that Lokka himself is there. He tells Quane about the warning. Quane claims that Veran was the second man and his brother Harka was first born. Quane claims that Lokka sent a serpent to kill Harka. The serpent’s name was Pwykka. Divis denies betraying Veran. He claims that Pwykka tricked him. Willa speaks with Amena. She tells Willa that she will do anything Veran wants.
Willa wants to find out how ready Amena is. Amena joins an orgy of sorts. Kerra speaks with Veran. She tells Veran that she knows Rome came to him. She suggests that he made a deal with Rome to protect himself. Quane tells Divis that Aulus came to the Druids. Veran took him to the Underworld. Quane tells him to follow Aulus’s footsteps to find out what he seeks. Lindon and Willa watch Amena with the Druids. Veran tells Kerra about Lokka and the evil Romans. Veran claims that the Gods picked Kerra because she is strong enough to defeat Lokka. To do that, she will need to be prepared to sacrifice everything. Lindon speaks with her and learns that she will become Queen.
Divis prepares to travel into the underworld. Amena stumbles out of the tent crying. Kerra is official made Queen of the Cantii. Phelan returns. Phelan asks the prisoner if his general ever met with the Druids. Phelan grabs Ania (Liana Cornell) and tells her that they’re leaving. Lindon tells Kerra that she is making a mistake. She tells Lindon to go to Amena. Kerra wants to know what Veran wrote when her mother was taken. Veran tells her that they say hope is the daughter of a blind father. Cait (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) gets food for her father as Phelan passes by with the prisoner.
Britannia Review
Some parts of Britannia are likeable. Others are just crazy nonsense. The vulgarity has been toned down a bit and that is a good thing. It wouldn’t have been bad if there was a purpose for it, but there wasn’t. Even in this episode, we got Amena sleeping with the Druids. There was really no rhyme or reason to it. Some aspects of the show are good, but much of it is laughable. This episode was a tad bit predictable. Are we going to see Kerra pitted against her brother?
The Runes that Veran read are obviously talking about Cait. It was clear from early on that she would play an important role in the war somehow. The episode was just okay. A 6.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Britannia now.

Just started the show but this episode frustrated me because NO ONE KNEW the general was going to see the druids till AFTER he went. The prisoner was capture shortly after he left the group and wouldn’t have known that the general ever went to the druids and yet when asked at the end of the episode the reaction to his answer is as if he had said he knew the general had went.
