As the episode beings, the Druids arrive to see King Pellenor (Ian McDiarmid). He is given something by Amena and told that the Druids may wish to see it. After the intro, Cait (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) continues her journey. She returns the big pebble to Divis (Nikolaj Lie Kaas). Divis is not impressed that she washed it. Divis asks Cait why she didn’t tell her father that her daughter is dead. She did it so he could sleep. Divis explains that his plans have changed since he saw the general. He claims that the general is something more than a man. Divis encourages Cait to get protection from King Pellenor. Cait and her father continue on their way. Pellenor speaks with Veran (Mackenzie Crook). Kerra (Kelly Reilly) is handed over to the Druids.
She tells Veran that she went to the Romans to stop them from crucifying our people. In return, she promises to try to convince Pellenor to speak with them. Evidence is presented against Kerra. Kerra’s mother was sacrificed to the Gods by the Druids. It appears that she may suffer the same fate. Kerra is told that the gods will soon make their decision. Aulus (David Morrissey) speaks with his comrade about morale. Aulus speaks to the possible spy. He tells he that he wants to hear all about it when he fully returns. Veran performs a ritual to speak with the Gods. Kerra speaks with Phelan (Julian Rhind-Tutt) about their past. It is clear the Phelan is in no position to defend his sister.
He is told not to bow to the will of the Druids when he is king. Once Phelan leaves, Lindon (Stanley Weber) visits Kerra. He offers to escape with her. They make love. The following day, Kerra is taken to the Druids once again. Pellenor agrees to follow the will of the Gods. Veran tells Pellenor that the Gods have decided that he shall be the sacrifice. Kerra does not like that decision. Pellenor agrees to accept the judgments of the Gods. Phelan tells Kerra that he is not ready to see Pellenor go. Phelan’s wife, Amena (Annabel Scholey), rubs it in right away. She tells him to get the blessing of the druids right away. Phelan calls her a monster. Phelan tells her that the Gods are insane for putting them together.
She insists she will speak to the Druids herself. Phelan speaks with the prisoner, Vitus (Gershwyn Eustache). He tells him about the deal he will attempt to strike with the Romans to save his life. Phelan asks him what is the worst thing he should be afraid of. Phelan is told about the Ninth legion and Aulus. Lindon rides to the Roman camp. Aulus knows that they want to trade Vitus for safe passage to their sacred burial ground. Aulus believes that Vitus could be good for them. It is believed that Aulus made the Cantii sacrifice their own king. Pellenor speaks to his elders as he waits for the sacrifice. Cait and her father continue walking. They decide to rest since it is a long way to Crugdunon.

Veran prepares for the upcoming sacrifice. Amena wishes to speak with him. She tells him that the Romans will come sooner or later. She admits she isn’t convinced that Phelan can do it. She tells Veran about Lindon. Amena is reminded that the gods wanted her to have children. He tells her to ask for rain and ask for the hawk to spare the mouse. She is told that what is happening is beyond them. Outside, Amena is told to go to Veran’s tent that night and suck his cock. The Gods might smile on her then.
Aulus checks on Brutus (Daniel Caltagirone). He rewards him for his valor. Brutus is told that there is a little job for him. He is told to watch the prisoner and tell Aulus when he starts talking. Veran visits Pellenor. He is given food to eat. Cait climbs a tree. She grabs a nest out of it. Her father has a plan of sorts. Phelan watches Pellenor stuff himself. Phelan is told that it is the way of the kings. Pellenor speaks about his wife’s sacrifice and not disobeying the gods. Pellenor refuses to see Kerra. She tells Lindon that she will not be bound to any man. Phelan begs Pellenor to forgive Kerra. He refuses. Cait’s father seems to believe he can heal his eyes with an old Druid ritual he once saw. Cait seems concerned.
Kerra ridicules Veran and the druids before the sacrifice. Vitus hears as the group heads for the sacrifice site. Cait’s father carries out his ritual, while Veran performs the sacrifice. Pellenor is told what is written. He is told that he was taken by darkness and he casted that darkness upon his children. He is called a broken father and a broken king. He calls out for Kerra and apologizes to her. Cait’s father continues. His ritual doesn’t seem to be working. Cait pleads with him to stop. Pellenor is choked and his neck is cut open. His heart is thrown into the fire. Kerra is told to kneel. She does. Veran marks her with blood. She is told that she is Queen Kerra of the Cantii. The Romans watch the event from a distance. They prepare to return to Aulus with the news.
Cait makes a fire. She speaks to her father about the things she has done for him. She tells her father that she will protect him.
Britannia Review
This episode of Britannia was just mediocre. I am really not a fan of the show. The acting isn’t too bad, but there is some hit and miss there. I am glad that Pellenor is gone, but I would prefer Julian Rhind-Tutt take over. The entire episode was focused on the upcoming sacrifice of Pellenor. It was drug out forever. At times, I thought it would be halted for good. Not much happened really. We got a failed druid ritual from Cait’s father and a prolonged sacrifice. The episode was just dull. A 5.5 out of 10 is deserved. Catch up with previous recaps of Britannia now.
