As the episode begins, John (Alden Ehrenreich) and Lenina (Jessica Brown Findlay) check on Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd). They tend to his wound while John calls for Linda (Demi Moore) and asks for her help. Linda works on pulling out the bullet while John worries about their vehicle since the battery won’t hold a charge. John tells her that the Sheila people are crazy and that they’re going to kill him. She tells John to shut up before pulling the bullet from Bernard’s shoulder. Linda tells her son that there is an extra battery in the crawl space so he rushes to get it immediately. Madysun (Lara Peake) arrives outside and John quickly tries to hide John and Lenina. Madyson makes her way inside while John tries to prevent her from finding the others.

Lenina tries her best to keep Bernard quiet but Madysun hears them and John has to stop her. Madysun pulls out a gun and points it at John. She threatens to kill him if he doesn’t move. Linda sneaks up behind Madysun and kills her. Linda tells John that they need to get them down and get her up. She takes some small pills before leaving with the others. They head outside and try to figure out what to do next. John, Lenina, and Bernard hide while Linda speaks with the store owner. Linda flirts with him but he isn’t interested since the cult people started a riot and the whole town is on fire. While he doesn’t like it, Linda forces him to let everyone inside. They hide while Linda works on Bernard’s wound.

Sheila (Kate Fleetwood) and her gang arrive outside and begin searching for Lenina and John. John speaks with Lenina about saving her and the others hating them. Lenina believes it is their conditioning because they’re violent, selfish, and fearful. The store owner doesn’t understand why Linda is helping them but she just wants Bernard fixed up. Then, John is told that they need to cauterize the wound. They work on that while Linda speaks to Lenina about the soma. She tells Lenina that she doesn’t need it to survive. She says the cruelest part is being forced to cope with it. They chat about Linda being a mother and down there. Lenina tells her that you come with an Alpha and leave with an Alpha. She says something about an Alpha leaving you behind but Lenina doesn’t think that will ever happen.

Bernard begins screaming because they’re patched him up in the other room. Bernard threatens to report them for burning him while John peers out of the window. Bernard believes they’re going to die there but he promises to be monogamous with Lenina if they live. John suspects that Sheila is leaving. Back inside, Lenina asks Bernard about being an Alpha so he can get them through the barrier. He confirms that he can. The store owner’s wife returns so he encourages them to get out of these before heading outside to greet his wife. It sounds like Sheila kills both while John and the others escape through the back door. They’re chased by a man on a motorcycle but John runs him down easily. A bit later, they run into a roadblock with Sheila’s people.

John considers backing up but that doesn’t work. He gets out and walks into the woods nearby. Linda tells Lenina and Bernard to stay put while she goes after him. Lenina has to deal with an angry Bernard because she took his last soma. She promises him that they’ll have soma soon. Bernard gets behind the wheel and tries to drive it himself. Lenina tells him about Linda being a Beta Plus just like her but Bernard doesn’t believe it. Linda catches up with John and tells him about being a Beta Plus. He finds out she has been taking their drugs but she says he doesn’t know what it is like. She pleads with John not to make her choose. Bernard gets the vehicle to move but he can’t get it to stop and freaks out. He almost hits another vehicle before it stops.

Linda and John hear the chaos so they make it back in time to stop them. They rush into the woods to escape Sheila’s gang. Bernard stops Linda and forces her to give him a soma before they continue. Lenina stops and cries while John tries to get her to hurry along. He pleads with her to stop crying but Lenina doesn’t know how. John attempts to comfort her before they continue. Linda wants to know more about New London. Bernard tells her that he doesn’t control the barrier and that Indra does. He gives her a soma back. Bullets fly out causing them to duck. They run for the barrier in hopes of escaping Linda and her gang. John and Linda get stuck outside and John doesn’t think he’ll make it.

Bernard wants to leave them but Lenina won’t let that happen. Linda gets behind John and pushes him from behind as Sheila fires at them. Sheila tells Bernard to go back home and tell his kind that they will not suffer for their amusement anymore. She says they will only find death beyond this barrier. Bernard and the others board a ship after that. John wonders what they’re going to do to them before he finds out that Linda has been shot. We jump forward and join Lenina and Bernard back in New London. Bernard has collected everyone’s clothes in evidence bags of sorts. Bernard tells Lenina that his shoulder is fixed before giving her a fully restocked soma dispenser. Lenina wonders what they do now. Bernard suggests they do what they’ve always done.

Then, Lenina wants to know what Sheila said at the barrier but he won’t tell the truth. He says Sheila told him that they shouldn’t go back there. She returns to her room with John’s clothes. Meanwhile, John screams asking about Linda. Mond (Nina Sosanya) watches before we see Linda and the director touching her face. Mond enters and says John is asking to see her. The director says there is nothing to see and that the savages do not cope well with death. Meanwhile, John continues wrecking the room and asking where Linda is. Mond speaks with John after he breaks a window. She tells him he is home. A door opens nearby and John approaches it. He steps through and sees New London for the first time.

 

Brave New World

Although it has some faults, I am really enjoying Brave New World through three episodes. It is much different than anything else on television right now and the story is fascinating. The acting is pretty good despite a few hiccups here and there. I’ll stick with it for sure. It is one of the few shows I’ve actually enjoyed watching in the past few months.
