As the episode begins, David Budd (Richard Madden) calls Chanel (Stephanie Hyam). They agree to meet up. David hides the tablet and retrieves the gun. Anne Sampson (Gina McKee) visits Sharma (Ash Tandon) and Louise (Nina Toussaint-White). Sharma explains that they’re now looking at Luke Aitkens (Matt Stokoe). Anne is reminded that she was over the investigations into Luke and failed to get anything accomplished. Sharma admits he is acting on information from David. In private, Sharma tells Louise about Aitkens having senior offices on his payroll. He suggests an inside man or woman might have helped with the assassination. David meets with Chanel. She notices his gun. David asks her whether or not her money comes from companies registered offshore.

Chanel doesn’t seem interested in talking business. They share a drink. Their conversation continues until Luke and his men enter. Luke knows all about the gun and Andy Apsted. Luke explains that what the gun is loaded with matters. It seems Luke was responsible for the blanks. David is punched and hustled outside. Louise investigates Luke and Anne. Then, she learns that they’ve got something on Andrew Apsted. Andrew has been linked to David Budd. Louise tells Sharma about Apsted serving alongside David. They also have evidence that Budd returns to Julia’s house and broke in. They believe that David played them all along. They go on the hunt for him immediately. A bloody David wakes up in a cellar of sorts.

He has a bomb vest on. There doesn’t seem to be a way to remove it. He gets up and begins walking slowly. He covers up and leaves. Police speak with Vicky (Sophie Rundle) about Andrew. She denies knowing him. Vicky doesn’t believe that David was involved. She is taken to the station to assist in the inquiries. David manages to convince a woman to call the police for him. He tells them who he is. The woman’s behavior after speaking with the police tells David that he is now a suspect. The detectives rush to his location. David hides as police arrive. Lorraine Craddock (Pippa Haywood) believes she can convince him to cooperate. David spots Vicky with Louise. David shows himself. He raises his hands and reveals the bomb vest. He tells them that it is a dead man’s switch.

He tries to convince them that he is innocent. David is ordered to move. He complies with the orders. Stephen (Stuart Bowman) checks in on the situation. David is escorted to Pope Square. Louise and Lorraine want to speak with David. Louise gives him a radio. Vicky is brought to the scene. Lorraine speaks with him. He tells her that he cannot remove the vest. David is asked about his relationship with Andy. Lorraine gives up and leaves. David tries to convince Vicky to leave. An officer is given the go ahead for the critical shot. Sharma arrives. He speaks with David. David tells them the bomb is the same as Nadia’s. David tells them all about the night before. He tells them that Luke supplied Andy’s rifle. Vicky tells them about the blank bullets.

David confirms he found Julia’s tablet. Stephen hears and makes a call. He tells Longcross where to find it. David chances radio channels. David tells them not to enter the flat. Longcross enters and gets sprayed. He is taken into custody soon after. Sharma learns and tells David about Longcross’s arrest. Stephen is not happy. David pleads with them to get the bomb off of him. He speaks with Vicky and promises that he is innocent. Vicky pleads with the police to take care of the bomb. An officer is finally allowed to do so. Daniel Chung takes over. David cooperates with Chung. Everyone watches as Chung works on the bomb. Chung speaks with his colleagues. He walks away. Anne arrives at the scene. Chung believes he can defuse it, but the risks are grave. Anne speaks with David.

Anne seems hesitant to help. Sharma and Louise speak about Anne’s connection to Luke. David believes Anne will have him shot. Vicky runs towards him. Vicky tells him that she believes he is innocent and she wants to give him a chance to prove it. David begins leading them to the evidence. He begins leading them towards his flat. Anne and Mike watch news on the television. She tells Mike about David’s link to Andy. Stephen arrives. Mike tells them that they’re all in this together. Anne tells him about Longcross. Stephen believes he should be released immediately. Anne believes they’re cooperating because of David’s evidence against them.

She refuses to step down from the investigation. Mike and Stephen agree to pin everything on David. David continues the march forward. Vicky is ordered to go inside get some rope and a spade. She emerges with both. Vicky climbs down into a cemetery and begins digging. She finds a black plastic bag. David tells them that it is the original tablet with the kompromat. He explains that it will prove Organized Crime and the Security Service were both involved. David tries to negotiate with Sharma. Sharma and Chung agree to help. David tells Vicky that she deserves to be happy. Chung gives David what he’ll need to defuse the bomb and Vicky gives the tablet to Sharma. David asks if Longcross is talking yet. He wants to know that everything hasn’t been done in vain.

Louisa agrees to get an update on Longcross. Chung walks David through defusing the bomb. Vicky is escorted from the scene. David manages to free his thumb from the trigger. David is told that there might be hidden trip wires. Chung suggests a shunt would work best. David gets the shunt in place and begins disconnecting the power supply. He cuts the first wire and puts tape on the ends. David asks about Longcross again. Sharma confirms that he has been released. Everyone moves back as David prepares to cut the second wire. The wire is cut. David makes a run for it. He leaps over the edge. Sharma finds nothing but the vest. Stephen learns about his escape. He tells Mike. Mike seems concerned that David could be up to something.

Chanel returns home. David is in her apartment. David pressures her to cooperate and get immunity. He wants her to set up a meeting with Luke. David watches as Luke leaves in a vehicle. David follows. The vehicle stops. Chanel is told to wait outside. David springs into action. David watches as Luke meets with Craddock. Luke is not happy that David isn’t dead. David approaches them. He gets a gun and threatens both of them. Luke cooperates with David’s orders. Luke admits killing Julia was good for business. Chanel and Lorraine plead with David not to shoot Luke. He doesn’t. He tells them to call it in before he changes his mind. He also tells Lorraine that it is over. At the station, Louise tells David the prints on the blanks were linked to an associate of Luke. They shake hands. Then, they watch Lorraine’s interview.

She admits to giving him sensitive information. She explains that Luke recruited and armed Apsted. She admits to giving security plans and other details about Julia’s speech. Luke overcame all of the security protocols. Luke didn’t like power being handed to the Security Service. She admits she appointed Budd to Julia because he was the perfect fall guy. However, she had nothing to do with the attack on his kid’s school. David believes there is yet another conspiracy out there. Several days later, Sharma tells David that it is good to go. David watches as Nadia is interviewed. Louise asks her if she has information about his kids. Louise suggests that Nadia might be an innocent victim in everything. Nadia says that David Budd made the same mistake. She admits David showed her pictures of his kids.

She remembered the details and helped her organization launch the attack on the school from behind bars. She also admits to building the vest and all of the bombs. She explains that she is not a poor oppressed Muslim woman. She confirms she lied about Longcross. Sharma tells David that they all fell for it. Nadia says that Luke planted the bomb that killed Julia. She is asked why she didn’t use her own bomb. She explains that she has atoned for that mistake. Anne watches as the allegations about the Prime Minister are mentioned on television. She tells David that Stephen and the Prime Minister will both resign. Mike will stay to ensure RIPA-18 is kicked into the long grass. Anne refuses to say who decided to leak the information. She contemplates David’s future. He is told to get some mental help and he does.

He speaks with the shrink about his issues. Much later, David visits Vicky. He admits that he is getting better. Vicky agrees to let the kids stay with David. David invites her along as well. Vicky agrees to join them. The episode ends as their vehicle pulls away.

 

Bodyguard Review

Bodyguard has been great from start to finish. The finale was no different. It was a thrill ride and a nail bitter. I felt that the conclusion was very satisfactory. I also appreciated the plot twist at the end. I would have never figured it out. If you’ve got a few hours to kill, you should binge watch Bodyguard right away. You will not be disappointed.
