The episode opens with Katia (Kate Dickie) reading Vinnie Douglas’ (Adam Gillen) future using tarot cards. While she busies about laying out the cards, he describes to her a chance meeting he had just that morning with a yellow cardinal. Vinnie points out that they are virtually nonexistent in their country and in the States. She suggests the universe might be conveying a message as she lays out the good fortune card. When she tells him he could possibly be about to get everything he’s ever wanted, he says he wants an empire. Katia asks if he doesn’t already have an empire. He claims running the village isn’t nearly enough. The mood drastically changes and he becomes extremely troubled when she lays out the betrayal card. She can’t tell him who will betray him but assures him that he will be betrayed. He refuses to believe it, noting that his underlings are more than just associates, they are his brothers.

Vinnie claims he and Gaz (William Fox) lost their virginity together. It was Bottlehead (John O’Neill) and his mom that he lived with after his dad got locked up and his mom ran off. Little Pete (Samuel Holland) got his face smashed in standing up for him and Big Pete (Matthew Mellalieu) has seen him 14 times. Vinnie refuses to believe his closest friends will betray him. Later, he sets out to test them with a mysterious shipping container. He orders them to stay out of it and monitors it until a text urges him to search the Kosovar Group’s cocaine distribution.

Much later that evening after a disappointing meeting with Kosovar Group, Vinnie calls Katia and blames her for getting inside his head and running his chances to build his empire. She assures him that she drew the good fortune card and the cards do not lie. Inspired, he convinces the Kosovar representatives, Samuel (Paterson Joseph) and Janet (Daisy Haggard) to restart the meeting.

Vinnie worries about being betrayed by someone close to him. He later catches Gaz accessing the shipping container. Vinnie and his crew assault Gaz with baseball bats and hang him upside down.

The following morning, Little Pete tries to convince Vinnie to not let the incident ruin their friendship. Vinnie tells him it’s over now before being drawn outside by a frantic Janet. The first thing he notices is she’s no longer speaking with an accent. As she reveals that everything has gone terribly wrong, the story changes to Samuel.

The Tailor (Tcheky Kary) wishes Samuel and Janet luck in finding the money. He orders Guy (Craig Fairbrass) to keep an eye on them. During a phone call, Guy wishes his Nan a happy 89^th birthday. He asks Samuel and Janet if they have a plan for the 5 million quid. He assures them that The Tailor is not known for giving second chances. After a bit of back-and-forth, Janet tells Guy that she needs to poo. He threatens to kill Samuel if she runs. Once alone, Samuel shares his gambling addiction with Guy. The conversation is soon interrupted by a frantic screeching outside, where a restaurant patron (Joanne Gerrard) discovers Janet unresponsive. The lady refuses to let Guy move her and against his wishes has already called paramedics.

At the hospital, the nurse (JoJo Kelly) directs Samuel and Guy to the reception area. Guy says she better not be faking. Samuel assures him that Janet would never fake an illness. Weathers tells them that Janet is in surgery to treat a ruptured ovarian cyst. Samuel asks Guy if he regrets the killing at the police station. Guy suggests he work on a plan to repay The Tailor. Weavers returns later to tell them that the surgery was successful. Guy tells Samuel that he regrets not pursuing his love for pottery. Later, they learn Janet never had surgery and left the hospital several hours ago. Feeling betrayed, Samuel reveals a tracking app on Janet’s phone.

The Tailor picks up Pat Tooh (Joanna Scanlan) for a date at La Table du Jean. They end up lost in the country. He holds a phone conversation in French. When he returns to the vehicle, he realizes his keys are missing. Pat calls Ben for a ride. While waiting, they visit a nearby tavern. When they enter, all eyes and ears are on them. The barman (Chris Hoyle) says they rarely get outsiders. Tailor asks if it has anything to do with the pub being a “sh**hole”. The barman cracks up laughing. Over drinks, he explains how his father losing his tailor shop inspired him as a young man (Charlie Hamblett). He boasts of acquiring and making the shop profitable.

Ben Tooh (Ethan Lawrence) arrives in his squad car to escort Pat and The Tailor back to town. While they make out in the backseat, Pat mentions Ben’s stakeout. He chides her for revealing confidential information but boasts of solving the slaughter at the police station.

Janet convinces Doctor Weathers (Joseph Kennedy) to lie for her. After escaping the hospital undetected, she makes her way to Samuel and Camilla Well’s (Michele Austin) house. After several unsuccessful attempts to get someone to come to the door, she lets herself in. She finds herself trapped by Camilla. Her opportunity to escape puts her face-to-face with Jehovah’s Witnesses (Jayne Tunnicliffe).

At home, Janet receives a call from Alan Jeffries (Oliver Sheridan). She apologizes before telling him that she is in trouble. He suggests going to the police but she refuses. Later, Janet tells Vinnie about the cocaine and her fake affiliation with the Kosovar Group. They go back to her place, where she stages the mask to look like a severed head which she attributes to the Kosovar Group. She convinces him to help her ambush them.

Vinnie and his men arrive early. When Guy and Samuel show up, things go awry. Guy pulls a pistol on him, but from out of nowhere The Tailor intervenes. He proceeds to explain how Samuel and Janet staged the meeting, hoping the group would kill each other. The episode ends.

 

Boat Story Review

Not much has changed about the series. The jokes are hit-and-miss while the acting is pretty much spot-on. The implementation is poor but not a complete failure. The editing needs improvement to make the story flow better. The acting continues to be the show’s strongest point. The episode deserves a 5 out of 10.
