A Dance With Daddy – As the episode opens, Roy Bellarie (Julian Horton) finds himself in a world of trouble. First, he runs over an already dead body in the middle of the road on his way home. After loading the body in his trunk, he returns home to find a very upset Mallory (Crystle Stewart), waiting to confront him about what she thinks was a butt dial. He plays dumb to all her accusations but this only makes her madder. Before he manages to escape her wrath, it’s also suggested that she is responsible for the body now in his trunk.
Kimmie’s (Taylor Polidore Williams) night isn’t going much better due to finding Rain Lattimore (Amber Reign Smith) nearly dead after what is later revealed to be a bootie lift operation gone wrong. After Rain wakes long enough to convince her not to get the authorities involved, Kimmie briefly remembers meeting Rain and the first job they did together for Angel (Xavier Smalls). A call from Body (Tamera Kissen) not only draws Kimmie back to the present but this is where the information about the medical procedure is revealed. Body also makes sure to keep the cops out of the situation while also making plans to meet them at the motel.
By now, Mallory has told Roy everything about accidentally hitting the girl after being distracted by his supposed butt dial. Despite her owning up to the truth, his wanting to get Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield) involved and her not wanting only causes more of a rift.
Body shows up at the hotel with the lady who performed Rain’s procedure, Daga’s (TS Madison), but her suggestion to give Rain more pills only raises Kimmie’s doubts. Kimmie does question her qualifications but receives a slap across the face for doing so. Other than this and checking Rain’s blood pressure, Daga does nothing. In the parking lot, Body briefly apprises Jules of the situation and suggests that he might need to rein in Rain. He not only appears unconcerned but reminds her that it’s her job to the girls in check.
As the story returns to Roy and Mallory, they are back in his car with the body and on their way to an unidentified location. Their bickering continues until Roy ends up being pulled over by Officer Jenson (Alex Collins). As Jenson gets Roy out of the car and administers a breathalyzer, Mallory calls Jules. Although Roy is arrested and the car is impounded before Jules can intervene, he manages to get Roy released without further incident. Just is in the process of taking Mallory to meet with Calvin (Shannon Wallace) to go pick up Roy when she tells him about the girl in the trunk of the car.
As soon as Jules arranges to have the body in Roy’s trunk taken care of, he receives a call from Delinda (Ursula O. Robinson), informing him about Kimmie taking Rain to the hospital. Within minutes, he’s at the Emergency Room picking Kimmie up. Other than some veiled threats, a stern admonishment, and reminders of everything he’s done for her, he doesn’t take things any further.
Despite everything mostly playing in their favor, Roy and Mallory’s breakfast argument suggests that the tension is still tighter than ever. It certainly doesn’t help when they later learn that the girl Mallory hit wasn’t in Roy’s vehicle. Kimmie’s situation isn’t going much better as Delinda narrowly prevents an argument at the strip club between her and Daga from escalating into a fistfight. It isn’t long after the confrontation that Horace (Ricco Ross) pays her another visit, with requests to schedule a date with Angel.
Kimmie appears to be uncomfortable with Horace’s request and it takes some convincing, but he gets her to agree to arrange the meeting. She has an equally difficult time convincing Angel to meet him but he finally agrees. After the club closes that night, Kimmie rides with Horace to the hotel while Angel follows them. On the way, Kimmie convinces Horace to check on Rain at the hospital. As Kimmie waits around for Horace and Angel’s date to conclude, the authorities investigate the theft at the impound lot and apparently find the girl he ran over.
The episode ends with Kimmie driving Horace home where she not only discovers he is filthy rich but has photos of him with Roy and Mallory.
Beauty In Black Review
I honestly find it hard to call this TV entertainment. It was almost more punishing than enjoyable to watch. Despite that, I am willing to give the show another go with an episode or two. I also have to note that this is my first introduction to Tyler Perry, so I am unfamiliar with his work. I know he’s been very popular and received a lot of praise for past works, but this is just plain bad. I’d give it a 3.5 and hope it grows on me.
