Whether viewers are more familiar with “Strike” or “C.B. Strike”, they are used to seeing the iconic intrepid British detecting duo of Strike and Phipps come out on top. Private detective Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) and his quick-witted sidekick, Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) have faced and bravely conquered many challenging cases over the years.
There is no question that the crime-fighting duo is uniquely equipped to handle the harshest of circumstances and the roughest of roughnecks. That could possibly change when they chart all-new investigative territory with a cold case. In typical Strike fashion, he jumps right into the deep end.
Strike is not only going to jump right into a cold case, but he sets out to take on one that has surely run cold with 40 years of dormancy. Strike and Robin recently say down with entertainment reports to answer some questions and provide some insight into what viewers can expect from this all-new venture.
The Arrival Of Season 5
Attracting a steady 8 million viewers per episode, it became only a question of when the British series would get snatched up by big American producers. Viewers saw that happen at the tail end of the fourth season. Strike now has a new home away from home amongst streaming big boys, HBO under the title of “C.B’ Strike.”
HBO snatched up the series just in time for the highly anticipated fifth season. Much of the show’s success can be contributed to the straight-to-point platform creators have adapted over the series’ lifespan.
There are plenty of subplots and side stories buried in the content but with just 2 to 4 episodes each season, the writers often themselves with precious little time for uncharted exploration.
Each episode runs along the timeframe of an hour, while the entire series’ platform typically coincides with the release of a Robert Galbraith novel. The series is based on these bestselling novels, which are composed under a penname for “Harry Potter’s” J.K. Rowling.
So, when fans saw that fourth adaptation, Lethal White, hit bookshelves, they know right away a new season would follow. That fourth season aired on BBC One and has long since wrapped, leaving only budding anticipation for the fifth and upcoming season.
When And Where?
The fifth season returned with headliners (Tom Burke and Holliday Granger) reappraising their roles as Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott. The 4-part season, dubbed “Troubled Blood,” premiered in the UK on BBC One on December 11th, 2022 at 9 pm.
Strike Season 5 Plot
Sitting down for their interview, Strike actors got right to business, shedding light on as many questions as possible. Strike and Robin both find themselves contending with family issues when this cold case seemingly falls in Strike’s lap.
When the series kicks off, Strike is still in Cornwall contending with his Aunt Joan’s cancer. This is when and how the detective is approached by Anna Phipps (Sophie Ward). Sophie brings with her the prospect of a missing mother that vanished when she was an infant.
Given his knowledge, the surrounding circumstances, and the 40 years of dormancy, Strike is cynical about the potential success. With hesitancy, he takes the case.
Family Woes
Throughout the run of the series, enough has been revealed to oppose the seemingly idyllic Cornwall life creators have established for Strike. Although his mother and father are both missing from the picture, it seems Aunt Joan and his Uncle put their all into rearing the young, budding detective.
Strike reveals an interesting vulnerability when around his aunt and uncle, but in his profession, this could spell future trouble. Fans are most intrigued to see just how deeply his own missing mother will play in this new search for answers. Speaking of Robin, she’s got her own lot of problems, and her relationship with Strike thus far in the series could be wrapped up as strained.
Fans are most interested in seeing the effects Strike’s missing mother has on the detective’s involvement in the 40-year-old cold case of a missing mother. Amidst a very restricting divorce with Matthew, Robin has never been afraid to challenge Strike.
While this could contribute to the strained state of the relationship, Strike has always admired those qualities in her. Strike constantly finds himself floored by Robin’s empathic abilities. The way she gets wrapped up in a case and feels for the wronged parties can be dangerous, but something Strike has always admired.
Her newly discovered independence will certainly play a major role in this upcoming cold case.
