According to a BBC press release, filming has begun on the major six-part drama series commissioned by the BBC and produced by Bad Wolf in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt said, “We can’t wait for viewers to discover the bold and brilliant Dope Girls. Packed full of complex and electrifying characters from a fascinating time in Britain’s history, this will be must-see, ambitious drama.”
Dope Girls, which was created and written by Polly Stenham and Alex Warren, is inspired by the time after the losses of World War One when the streets of Soho were controlled by female gangs running the clubs, drugs, and moonshine.
Shannon Murphy serves as lead director with Miranda Bowen directing later episodes. The series is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Dope Girls Characters
Kate Galloway (Julianne Nicholson) is a single mother who opens a nightclub in the middle of the roaring aftermath of World War One. Kate will embrace a life filled with criminal activities to provide for her daughter, Evie (Eilidh Fisher).
Violet Davies (Eliza Scanlen) is one of the first female officers of the Metropolitan Police. Davies is tasked with going undercover to investigate the nightclubs in Soho. During her investigation, she encounters a bohemian dancer named Billie Cassidy (Umi Myers) whose life will be turned upside-down by her arrival.
Isabella (Geraldine James) is the leader of the Salucci family which includes Luca (Rory Fleck Bryne), Damaso (Dustin Demri-Burns), Matteo Rossi (Eben Figueiredo), and Silvio (Sebastian Croft).
