As the episode begins, Miri (Daisy Haggard) prepares to go to work. Oscar (Richard Durden) and Caroline (Geraldine James) argue over a box full of feces. Miri can’t believe that someone sent them a box full of poo. She gets advice about her wardrobe before walking out of the door. Meanwhile, Mandy (Christine Bottomley) visits her doctor for a checkup. He is worried that her blood pressure is a little high. Billy (Adeel Akhtar) tries to speak with Miri outside. However, she is in a hurry and rushes off.

Oscar comes outside and speaks with Billy briefly. When Billy smells the poo on Oscar’s hands, he decides to rush off in the opposite direction. Miri makes it to work and finds Nathan (Liam Williams) with a box. She suspects it contains poo and knocks it to the ground. Nathan lets her know that it is only napkins. He becomes concerned that she might not be a good match for the shop. Nevertheless, he decides to stick with her anyway. Caroline and Oscar get into an argument because he just won’t stop ignoring her.

Dom (Jamie Michie) walks through the doors at the fish and chips shop. He tries to invite Miri out for lunch and Nathan likes the idea. Miri refuses and Dom eventually agrees to leave the shop. Oscar gets a call from Mandy who wishes to speak with Miri. Mandy explains that she has found a job for her. Oscar says that it is too late because Miri already has a job. Meanwhile, the fish and chips shop is struggling. Miri suggests putting balloons up outside before she is told to take a long lunch break.

She sits by the sea and decides to call Janice (Jo Martin) for assistance. Unfortunately, Janice is out of her mind and believes she is speaking with a friend and not a client. Suffice to say, Miri doesn’t get any help from her. Then, Dom confronts Miri. He tries to smooth things over but Miri isn’t having it. She wants to make a new life for herself. Caroline and Dom text back and forth. Miri returns to the fish and chips shop. She is given the task of delivering food to a nearby school. She is surprised to run into Mandy.

She learns that Mandy is now working at the school. She doesn’t want to speak with Mandy anymore. She tries to leave but the door is locked. Miri is mad that her friend didn’t write to her once. After a little back and forth, Miri drops the food on the ground and storms out. When she returns to the shop, she learns that Nathan put up balloons and they worked. Things are going great until a brick comes smashing through the window. Miri is cut on the side of the face and this forces her to leave work. She runs into Billy on the street and agrees to get into his truck.

Dom and Caroline meet up again. She is unable to finish him off with her hand. She explains that they need to stop meeting up. Billy takes Miri and buys ice cream for both of them. They enjoy their ice cream while Billy insists the blood looks good on Miri. It helps bring out her blue eyes. Oscar apologizes to Caroline for ignoring her. Billy offers to take Miri up to the radar thing by the cliff. She doesn’t want to go and insists she should return home. At the end of the episode, we see the cliff in question and hear a 911 call about two girls getting into a fight. One girl pushed the other one over the edge.

 

Back To Life Review

This show is nowhere near the level of Rectify. It is much different than that show though. It attempts to put a new spin on someone freshly out of prison. I am enjoying it so far but I do find some of the scenes to be slightly annoying. It tries a little too hard to be humorous and it falls flat from time to time. Nevertheless, I find it tolerable and I am eager to find out what happened in the past. I can see where things are going but I am still not sure what Miri actually did.

It isn’t perfect but I am enjoying it so far. I will stick with it. The episode scores a 7 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Back to Life right now!
