As the episode begins, Gilbert (Lucas Jade Zumann) and Sebastian (Dalmar Abuzeid) land in Trinidad. Gilbert learns a little about Bash’s history and the racial bias of the locals. After the intro, Nate (Taras Lavren) tries to convince Anne (Amybeth McNulty) that they have discovered gold. She eventually relents and agrees that she sees gold in the microscope. Moments later, Nate and Dunlop (Shane Carty) try to convince Marilla (Geraldine James) and Matthew (R.H. Thomson) to get their land tested for gold. Anne is given money to buy a new slate. On the way to school, Anne tells Diana (Dalila Bela) a scary tale. They run through the woods and rush to school.
Once they get there, they watch Billy Andrews (Christian Martyn) harass Cole (Cory Gruter-Andrew). During class, Billy continues the harassment. Cole is punished by the teacher. Meanwhile, Gilbert and Bash continue touring Trinidad. They visit Bash’s mother. She is afraid that he is going to get her into trouble. The boys are run off right away. Marilla fixes her hair. Matthew is surprised to see her. Jerry (Aymeric Jett Montaz) asks them about the mine. They do not have specifics at this point. During lunch, Anne and the others decide to sit with Cole.
Matthew learns that Jerry has been practicing writing in English. On the way home, Anne becomes scared again. She tells her friends about the horrifying tale. They decide to leave before it gets late. Anne rushes home too. Dunlop tells her that his relative has died and he is going to inherit a lot of money. Later, Nate decides to hold an informal gathering to speak about the gold. William (Jonathan Holmes) and Eliza (Helen Johns) prepare for the event. During the party, Nate butters up Marilla. At home, Anne tries to write a letter to Gilbert. She cannot pull it off.
William turns his attention to Thomas (Philip Williams). Thomas refuses to make a decision without Rachel (Corrine Koslo). Dunlop tells the group that he intends to buy land in Avonlea. Nate tries to steal from the Barry house. Dunlop offers to pay for the testing for Marilla and Matthew. When they return home, Nate argues with Dunlop. Anne overhears them, but isn’t able to tell what they’re talking about. Matthew seems to be coming around to the gold mine deal. Bash and Gilbert speak about their future. Gilbert doesn’t seem interested in returning home. We see that Cole might have taken a likening to Anne.
Matthew gives Jerry Anne’s broken slate. Anne finally begins writing her letter to Gilbert. It is ruined when her pen begins spilling ink.
Anne With An E Review
This episode of Anne with an E was terrible. I loved the previous season, but this one was downright disappointing. The Gilbert and Bash scenes were uninteresting and boring. Anne’s ghost story seemed to drag out forever. I am already over Nate and Dunlop too. I don’t find either one of them interesting and their gold scheme is dull. Jerry is still great and it was nice to see Nate get kicked. Otherwise, this episode was unsatisfying. It scores a 5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of Anne with an E right now!
