Safe Harbor – As this episode of Allegiance begins, Sabrina (Supinder Wraich) returns from a run and learns more videos have been unearthed. Ishaan (Adolyn Dar) says he found the original video in the university’s archives. He explains that anyone could’ve accessed and manipulated the video. Parveen (Sonia Dhillon Tully) insists that context is everything. There has been an increase in threats since Ajeet (Stephen Lobo) was moved to house arrest. Ajeet thinks they should fight back, but Sabrina and Ishaan say the damage is already done. Someone throws a brick through their window. An officer checks on them but he isn’t very helpful. Sabrina tells Ishaan they have to get ahead of this.

She asks if he tracked down who first shared the intel. Ishaan says it was some Hitler-happy guy calling himself “ricochet88”. He’s been working him hard and he thinks he’s best friends with a white-pride ex-soldier. He has asked to meet-up. Sabrina thinks they should send someone else so Ishaan agrees to ask him. At work, Sabrina and Vince (Enrico Colantoni) take a call about a possible theft at the Olympiad Inn. At the scene, Sabrina asks Bill McMillan (Nick Hunnings) if he may have misplaced his phone. He accuses the cleaners of stealing it. Jenab (Menglei Liu) tries to help figure out who cleaned the room. Anisa (Claudia Kai) claims he only borrowed it for a minute to call home. Once the phone is returned, Bill wants to make sure Anisa will be charged.

Vince says he needs to verify Anisa’s ID. Jenab admits she doesn’t have it. Sabrina asks the manager if they can see her employment records. The manager says the agency handles it.  Sabrina wants to know more, but Vince thinks they should leave. Anisa tells Jenab that she just wanted to hear her son’s voice. In private, Sabrina suggests there is a labor-trafficking operation going on. Vince says you can’t undo it once you’ve got border services involved. It almost always ends in deportation. He urges Sabrina to keep letting them work and sending money home. Sabrina wonders if Jenab could be the reason the girls are in the country to begin with. Vince agrees to dig a little deeper with the owner. The owner tells them that the agency handles everything and she just pays for a service.

They set everything up by email, but the point person on site is Jenab. Sabrina asks for the contact information for the agency. Vince says they want to speak to Jenab. Outside, Jenab stabs their tire and flees. Moments later, the owner shows them the security footage of Jenab stabbing their tire. Sabrina wants answers, but the owner says their private lives are none of her business. Sabrina gives the owner her cell number just in case she learns about Jenab’s whereabouts. The owner says any future conversations will need to happen through her lawyer. Outside, Vince jokes he assumes Ms. Zachos was full of helpful information. When they see the workers leaving, Vince tells Sabrina to call it in to see if another unit can follow them.

Later, Gillian Goode (Melanie Papalia) informs Sabrina that the agency using a hyper-encrypted email service so they can’t track them. The company is bogus and well-insulated. Sabrina and Vince arrive at the location where the company vehicle stopped. Luke (Lachlan Quarmby) tells a woman that she needs to see a doctor because her wound looks bad. Sabrina checks the wound which she describes as toxic. She tells Marisol (Sarah Cantuba) that she needs to go to the hospital. Luke calls for an EMT. Luke confronts Anisa to see if she can tell them where Jenab went. Anisa shows them where she sleeps. Under the mattress, Vince and Sabrina find a notebook with photos. They’ll need an interpreter to find out what’s in the notebook. They try to get help from Mark once they’re back at the police station.

Luke tells Sabrina that Marisol was taken to the hospital while the rest of them have been relocated. In other words, they’re in the custody of federal border services. Sabrina argues he didn’t need to do that. Vince tries to convince Sabrina that she didn’t betray them. He wants to find Jenab before they lose their shot at finding the people who put them in this situation. Ishaan contacts Sabrina to say Kyle has agreed to a meet up. In the car, Kyle (Jake Foy) talks to Ishaan about the kids they’re going to have. Sabrina arrives with the microphone system Kyle will use. Gillian calls to tell Sabrina they got a ping on Jenab. Sabrina and Vince manage to trap Jenab on a bus. They arrest her. Kyle waits for Ricochet88 (Jonathan Whitesell) to arrive.

Once he arrives, Ishaan walks him through what to say. Richocet88 tells Kyle they should go somewhere they can talk. He shows Kyle the memorabilia in his van. Ishaan worries when they get into the van. Kara Degas (Crystal Balint) asks Jenab if she was going to the airport to fly to Kuala Lumpur. Sabrina interrupts to show Degas what was in Jenab’s journal. Kyle tells Richocet88 about their militia and how they could be a good match. As for Richocet88, he says they’re mostly online right now but they get out for direct action like last night at the war memorial. They tagged it with IOH. Kyle thinks he should be discreet. He says the intel he got on Ajeet is next level. Kyle tries to find out more about Richocet88’s contact. He learns that the guy is a cop in Surrey.

Richocet88 wants to end the conversation since he believes Kyle is there to poach his source. He throws Kyle out and speeds away as Ishaan tries to take a picture of his van. Sabrina and the others find out that Jenab was paying down a debt. She also has a diary. Degas thinks they can use this information to get Jenab talking. Ishaan sends the plate number to Sabrina. Jenab insists she isn’t stupid. Sabrina asks if Mina is with her in the photo. She shows Jenab a picture of her brother and his boyfriend. Jenab says it’s a crime in her country and they whip you. They had to get out, but they only had enough money for one person. Jenab explains how a man wanted a fee even though they had no more money. She and Mina just want to be free.

Jenab reveals that Felix takes their hotel wages in cash. She is only able to save $40 each month. They agree to let her call Mina to make sure she is safe. Once she does, a man takes the phone and complains that they came to the house to take his workers. Jenab is told to keep her mouth shut or she’ll never see Mina again. She explains that Mina was coming with six women. Bolton and Gillian try to track them down. Jenab tries to describe the house where they were taken. She remembers there was a small roundabout near the house and a big patio in the back. They find the residence in question and storm is moments later. One man is tackled to the ground.

Sabrina goes inside where she is confronted by a man with a handgun. The man managed to escape outside with a hostage only to be clotheslined by Vince. Doug Gabinski (Toby Levins) says they found legal seals for fake student visas. They also discovered a crate of confiscated cell phones. Jenab is reunited with Mina. She is asked whether she recognizes all of the women since there are seven and she said she came with six. Mina doesn’t recognize one woman. She is warned she’ll die if she talks. The woman in question is arrested for human trafficking. Later, Sabrina searches for the license plate but gets no results. Anisa enters the station to thank Sabrina.

Nate (Andres Joseph) tells Sabrina that her chances of remaining in the country are 50-50. He spoke to an NGO that can likely help. Mina and Jenab have a stronger case for asylum because of the treatment of LGBT people in their country. Bolton asks Sabrina about using their surveillance equipment. Sabrina says she thought she should familiarize herself with the tech. She keeps lying even though Bolton doesn’t seem to believe her. He tells her to stay focused. Sabrina calls Ishaan who tells her Ajeet and Kyle are bonding. Ishaan tells her that the contact is a Surrey CFPC. Sabrina will get a list of all the male officers who work there so he can look for connections. Ishaan warns her they might not like what they find.

 

Allegiance Review

This episode of Allegiance had some good points, but its flaws overshadow them most of the time. The performances aren’t always believable with the lead being one of the biggest culprits. Some of the others are stronger although their roles are mostly insignificant. The writing remains the biggest issue because it is so unrealistic and slanted.

At this point, the series should’ve revolved around a social worker instead of a police officer. That would’ve given the writers more room to implement their biased views and push their agendas more effectively. For instance, everything about Allegiance is progressive yet the writers are happily allowing cops to tackle and clothesline suspects. It’s a wonder they didn’t have protestors picketing Vince for that nasty lariat.

Ajeet’s story is probably the weakest of the bunch because it’s hard to care about some posh politician who lives better than most Canadians. It’ll be hard to find average people who are going to cheer for any politician at this point no matter how much overtime the brainwashing machine has run. Ishaan’s relationship came out of left field and felt very forced while his technical skills are cheesy. Truthfully, this is just another show that leads to political exhaustion and does nothing to stand out making it easily skippable.
