Agent Carter Finale Review

When the Agent Carter Finale opens, we witness the Captain America radio show again. Peggy and her SSR comrades investigate the theater incident. Peggy (Hayley Atwell) instantly recognizes the people killed one another. Inside the cinema, Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) discovers the source of the problem, Stark’s invention. He accidentally sprays himself in the face and attacks Thomspon. (Chad Michael Murray). At the same time, Dottie (Bridget Regan) and Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) cruise the streets, when they’re pulled over, by police. The doctor calms Dottie, before she can do something malicious. Using her charm, Dottie is able to escape capture.

On the way back to his car, the police officer hears a call about Dottie’s vehicle. When he turns around, he is held, at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Daniel wakes up tired to a bed. He admits the gas made him want to kill everyone. Back at the office, Thompson briefs the other SSR officers about the gas. During the middle of his speech, Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy) and Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) enter.

Howard Stark is interrogated by Thompson and Daniel. He provides them with information regarding the Battle of Finow and confirms the gas is named the Midnight Oil. His lab was raided, which causes the mass casualties at Finow. They discuss Johann Fennhoff, who is actually Dr. Ivchenko. The doctor and Dottie head to an airfield and plan to escape, but a radio announcement about Howard returning a hero, has made the doctor change his mind. Peggy attempts to convince Howard to back out of the press conference, without success. Stark steals Captain America’s blood.

Stark holds his press conference, when a shot blasts right past his head. When Stark makes his escape, he gets into a police car, which is driven by the cop at the beginning of the episode. He has apparently been brainwashed, by Ivchenko. Jarvis and Sousa track down the cop car, while Peggy and Thompson discover that the pair are planning on attacking Times Square. Dottie holds Stark at gunpoint in the back of the doctor’s car.

Jarvis suggests he knows where the pair are headed. He suggests Stark has another vault. The show flashes back 6 months and shows us inside of Stark’s massive vault. Stark hangs out with Dottie. In the meantime, he is being tortured, before Dr. Fennhoff speaks to him. The doctor says he was there at Finow and only survived, because he had a gas mask. He reveals his comrades and brother died, due to Stark’s gas. Fennhoff begins hypnotizing Stark, while focusing him to go back to his most shameful moment. The show flashes to a scene showing Stark attempting to bring Captain America home. When Peggy arrives at the airfield, Howard flies off in an airplane.

With Howard headed towards New York, the group is forced to come up with a plan. Jarvis says he has flown a plane before and agrees to help, while Peggy heads to the radio room. She finds Dottie and Fennhoff inside. Peggy and Dottie begin fighting, while Jarvis prepares to take off. Eventually, Dottie is kicked out of a window and lands on the wing of one of Stark’s planes. During the fight, Fennhoff was able to escape. Peggy speaks to Howard, while Thompson and Daniel track down Fennhoff.

Thompson is distracted and knocked out, by Fennhoff, but Daniel enters and stops him. Fennhoff immediately begins speaking, in order to hypnotize Sousa. Fennhoff instructs Sousa to point his weapon at Thompson. Sousa smacks the doctor in the face and reveals he had cotton in his ears. Meanwhile, Peggy continues trying to wake up Howard, while Jarvis tracks him down and questions, whether or not he should take the shot.

Stark breaks down regarding his destructive past, while speaking to Carter. After a little convincing, Stark comes to his senses and follows Jarvis back to the airfield. Peggy discovers that Dottie has disappeared. Peggy returns to the SSR office, where she receives a round of applause. Walt Cooper from the US Senate enters and congratulates Thompson for his work saving New York. Thompson holds his tongue and accepts all of the credit. The situation enrages Sousa, but he is calmed, by Peggy.

Jarvis takes Angie Martinelli (Lyndsy Fonseca) and Peggy to one of Howard’s houses and offers them residency there. Jarvis tells Carter he would be happy to offer his services to her, at anytime. Jarvis reveals and gives Peggy Captain America’s blood. Edwin insists Peggy is the only one in the world, who knows what to do, with the blood. Next, Peggy is shown pouring the blood off of a bridge.

Dr. Fennhoff is locked in a cell, with a headpiece, which prevents him from speaking. He is introduced to another inmate, Dr. Arnim Zola (Toby Jones). Zola insists Fennhoff is lucky to be imprisoned in an American prison, since America is the land of opportunity.

Review

The Agent Carter finale brought nearly everything to a conclusion, but also opened up a lot of doors for a second season. Howard Stark finally returned to the show and turned himself in, but he had a few tricks up his sleeve. While Peggy saved the day, with the help of Daniel Sousa, Jack Thompson took all of the credit. It was slightly hard not to feel sorry for Jarvis and Sousa near the end of the episode. All in all, it was a fun episode and I would certainly be interested in another season! The episode deserves a 8.5 out of 10.
