After The Flood Series 1 Finale Episode 6 Recap

pat episode 6 recap after the flood

Breaking Cover – As the finale of After The Flood begins, Pat (Matt Stokoe) admits to Joanna (Sophie Rundle) that he was there when Daniel died. Jo believes it was in Jack’s building and related to the insurance scam. Pat confirms Keith wasn’t there. Jack was there with Sarah and Pat was there with Mackie. Pat explains that Mackie is a law unto himself. When Pat was in uniform, there was a kid from a good family who got into trouble. Mackie convinced Pat that they should read him the riot act and let him go instead of ruining his life. It felt good until Pat was given 200 pounds because the family wanted their appreciation known. One day, Mackie wants to make sure there is no police presence when Jack’s plant gets stolen.

While Lee was dismantling the plant, Daniel was arranging the shipment with Keith. Since that wasn’t happening fast enough, they got stuck with shipping containers full of stolen gear. Mackie called everyone in for a meeting and it kicked off. 48 hours before the flood, Pat and Phil Mackie (Nicholas Gleaves) join Jack (Philip Glenister), Daniel, Lee, and Sarah. Phil tells Jack that he needs to get his morning or everyone in the room will be under investigation. He says they have a new plan. Sarah (Jacqueline Boatswain) explains that the council has a brownfield site that needs decontaminating and she can arrange for Lee and Daniel to get the contract. Jack wants the hundred grand sitting in their bank account. Daniel says they’re not interested because he’s worried Jack will go bust.

Lee (Jonas Armstrong) wants 120k back and a 60-40 split in their favor on the shipment. Jack says 55-45 but he needs proof that they have the money and he needs it in his account first thing in the morning. Daniel begins fighting with Lee and grabs his knife. Then, he cuts Jack. Daniel upsets Phil by asking him if he likes watching his wife with Jack. That leads to Jack hitting him in the head. He kills Daniel. Phil tells no one to touch him because it is best to do nothing. Lee is shocked to find that all the money is gone already. In the present, Jo can’t believe what she just heard. Pat reminds her that she broke the law too. He explains that Lee is the one Mackie gave a second chance many years ago.

Pat says Lee is a success story because Nanta is legit. Pat will make three or four grand on the insurance scheme. He admits he has 21 grand in a savings account. Gibson is the only other one that’s involved. Pat claims not to know who put Daniel’s body in the lift or where it was going. He doesn’t know anything about Chris either, but he suspects he probably killed himself. Jo asks about the hit-and-run on her mother. Pat tells Jo that her dad was the most corrupt officer he ever worked with. Jo doesn’t want to believe it. Pat tries to tell her that he only did it to bring down the ones who always got away with it. Phil tells the officers to get ready for the coming flood. Gibson tells Phil about Lee getting away armed. Deepa calls Jo to tell her about Lee.

When Phil gets in touch with Lee, he insists he didn’t know they were going to raid him. Phil warns him that he will trigger a firearms response because he has a gun. He tells Lee about Daniel’s girlfriend and William Caine since he might be able to get his money before he leaves. After the call, Pat complains to Phil about Jo knowing everything. Phil tells Pat to find her. Pat calls Molly (Lorraine Ashbourne) who can’t help him. Lee goes to Emma’s house where he finds a picture of Daniel with William. He sees Emma outside walking the dog with William nearby. Phil becomes concerned when Pat tells him he has been called back in by DCI Roy (Daniel Betts). He rushes over to tell Sarah everything. She says he has to get ahold of this. Lee will be a big distraction and it’ll give them time to find and speak to Jo.

Phil tells everyone to get up the hill. Lee calls him to say they need to meet at the usual place. Once they meet, Lee asks about Jo because he believes she got him raided. Phil admits Pat told her everything. He tells Lee that he can’t go after her. Roy tells Pat to release Tasha Eden (Anita Adam Gabay). Phil tells Jack about Lee’s place being raided. He says Jack is financially screwed. Jack threatens to tell on Phil if they come after him. Phil tries to convince him that would be a bad idea. He promises to keep Jack out of prison just like he saved him the other night when Daniel had a knife. Phil ends up hitting him for sleeping with his wife. Jack sees water bubbling up next to him and realizes it is about to get bad. Jo tries to call Amy but she doesn’t answer.

Lee manages to find Jo. He takes her inside Amy’s house and takes her phone. Lee accuses her of playing him from the start and taking everything from him. Jo says she said nothing just like she promised. She explains that Pat gave them Tasha so she’d tell them about her and give them some time. Tasha thinks Lee killed Daniel. Lee storms out without saying where he is going. Jo jumps into the vehicle with him. She pleads with him not to run because doing so will only end badly. Molly finds out from Jack that the water is coming up through the drains. She reluctantly agrees to let him in. Pat wants Tasha to call Jo from her phone because he is worried about her. Tasha learns that Jo told Pat who told on her. Pat offers to let her go if she calls. Tasha doesn’t have her phone since they took it when she arrived.

Jo suspects Gibson and Lee moved the red car and Chris might’ve helped. She remembers that Lee was the last person she was with before she found Chris’s body. She asks why he was really upset. Lee tells her to stop it. Jo causes him to crash. Tasha refuses to help Pat. Deepa is told the firearms officers want her with them in case she has to identify Lee. Jo and Lee are injured in the crash. She worries she is going into labor. Lee admits to killing Chris even though he was only supposed to scare him. He says he called Mackie because he didn’t know what to do. Mackie thought it was best if Chris has killed himself. Lee argues it was his choice, but Jo believes Mackie used him. Jo reminds him that she saw him as a hero before Lee goes for help.

Tasha tells Pat that Lee called and said something about a baby before her phone died. They learn that Lee and Jo were in a crash near Calden Vale. They find the car and rush over to check on Jo but she is gone. Jo hears Pat who runs over to her. She says they’re okay although they need to go to the hospital. Tasha finds Lee dead nearby. Jack tells Molly that Uplands has won the eco housing award. Investors are piling in now. Jack says that means they’re going to get Uplands 2. Molly tells him it isn’t nice to flood people out of their homes. Jack hopes she gets elected so she’ll see that things aren’t as simple as she thinks. Molly calls and learns about Jo. She tells Jack to watch out because she has something to fight for this time. Tasha tells Jo that Pat loves her very much.

Molly arrives to hold the baby. Jo and Pat decide to go for a walk. Jo tells him she is going to ask her mom if she and Eve can stay with her for a while. She also tells him that Lee said he killed Chris Robinson and Mackie was with him. Mackie arrives and congratulates them. Jo reminds him that he killed Daniel Eden and had Lee kill Chris Robinson. Mackie claims Daniel was an accident and Chris killed himself. He says they’re doing the best they can in a system that doesn’t work anymore. Mackie warns her that she’ll press the self-destruct button if she reports anything because of everything she has done since the flood. He claims Chris’s death was her fault. Mackie reveals he has documented every wrong step she has made so she’ll do time and Pat will go down for a decade. Molly will love her home too.

Jo thinks Pat is going to back her up, but Mackie doesn’t think that’ll happen. He says Jo will be on her own and he’ll trash her dad’s name. He’ll also make Deepa look corrupt. Mackie urges them to get on with the rest of their lives. Once they’re alone, Pat tells Jo he’ll do whatever she wants. They go to the police station and it looks like Jo is going to speak to DCI Roy.

After The Flood Review

The finale of After The Flood had its moments although it really feels like it was unrefined and unfinished. There wasn’t much out of the ordinary after the big reveal at the end of the fifth episode. We already knew that Pat was corrupt and there was a good chance that others were as well. As it turned out, Mackie was the ringleader of the whole thing and had more pull than anyone including Jack.

Jo once again put her child at risk but managed to give birth on her own without any issues. Despite some revelations in the finale, this really didn’t accomplish much and only aimed to get another series. Besides Lee, no one was brought to justice for being corrupt. While the series somewhat alluded to Mackie being brought down or investigated, it only took a tiny step in that direction.

This had six episodes to hammer home on those points instead of focusing on everything else, especially all the flood regulation stuff. What happened to that? Finn wasn’t even in this episode so none of that stuff mattered at all. The camera work was horrific at times as well with the shaking being unnecessarily overboard. On the other hand, there were some good performances with Nicholas Gleaves sticking out in the finale.

Overall, After The Flood was okay but it isn’t going to be memorable at least not for the right reasons. With the right expectations, this can at least be a brainless binge capable of killing about six hours. The finale scores a 5 out of 10. Recaps of After The Flood can be found on Reel Mockery here.
