As the episode begins, Matthew (Matthew Goode) drives down the road. Diana (Teresa Palmer) soaks her sorrows in the tub. She glances over only to find Marthe (Sorcha Cusack) and Ysabeau (Lindsay Duncan) watching her. Marthe speaks with Diana about her magical powers. She admits it is more power than she has seen in ages. Diana suggests going to Madison. Matthew’s mother refuses to let that happen now. Matthew learns from Miriam (Aiysha Hart) and Marcus (Edward Bluemel) that witches were responsible for the break in. They ultimately place the blame on Peter Know (Owen Teale). Miriam believes that Matthew mating with a witch might have something to do with it. Matthew is confident that the break in has everything to do with Diana. He recognizes the scent and rushes off.

Miriam claims that it is time to call Baldwin Montclair (Trystan Gravelle) and tell him the truth. Marcus tells Baldwin everything he needs to know about Matthew and Diana. He tells him about the break in too. Baldwin claims that Matthew always brings everyone else down with him. Baldwin won’t help him if he breaks the rules this time. Ysabeau speaks with Diana about vampires and their hunting behaviors. She describes it as relentless and brutal. Diana is told to come nowhere near her when she is hunting. Gillian (Louise Brealey) is shown walking down the street. Matthew stalks her. Matthew asks her about being jealous of Diana. She denies it. He asks her if Knox promised her a raise in the ranks.

He accuses her of breaking into the lab. She confesses that she thinks it is sick that Diana is with a vampire. Matthew bites Gillian on the neck, while his mother hunts. Matthew relives Gillian’s memories of the lab break in. Diana is stunned by the vamping hunting. Matthew takes Gillian’s phone and leaves her on the ground. Ysabeau confesses that it is the nature of vampires. Diana admits that isn’t going to keep her away from Matthew. Gillian manages to make contact with Sylvia (Nila Aalia). Satu (Malin Buska) and Peter speak to a comrade about the vampires studying witch DNA. The man contemplates why Gillian would break into the lab anyway. He explains that she could have been killed.

Meanwhile, Diana gets in touch with Sarah (Alex Kingston) and Emily (Valarie Pettiford). She tells them about the Covenant and the Congregation. Diana confesses that she is in love with Matthew. She claims that the Congregation won’t choose who she loves. Matthew speaks with Hamish Osborne (Greg McHugh) about his relationship with Diana. He admits he was foolish to believe the Congregation would no longer care. Matthew is worried that Diana will unravel his past. Amish tells him that he shouldn’t let anything get in the way of love. Ysabeau decides to tell Diana more about Matthew. She takes Diana to a church that Matthew built. She tells Diana about Matthew’s wife and son Blanca and Lucas. He was with them when he was a human. Fever spread through the village and took them both.

Diana is told that Matthew’s true love will always be Bianca. She explains that Matthew will continue living without her after she is long gone. Ysabeau tells Diana about siring Matthew in a church. He jumped and was on the verge of death. Matthew was out of his mind with pain and she thought she could save him. Peter Knox speaks to the Congregation. Baldwin argues that Gillian was trespassing and that resulted in her being attacked. Gerbert (Trevor Eve) offers to get involved. He believes he can be more persuasive than Dominico (Gregg Chillin). It is suggested that one member of each group should go to Sept-Tours to analyze the situation. Baldwin promises to go and get Diana himself. Satu and Peter Knox discuss their options. Satu contemplates working with other vampires to dethrone Baldwin.

Peter tells her to stay away from Dominico and Gerbert. Nathaniel Wilson (Daniel Ezra) speaks to his friends about coming clean to all humans. Sophie (Aisling Loftus) enters and tells him about the awkward dream she had. The people in the dream encourages her to tell the truth. She wants to speak with Nathaniel’s mother. Diana tells him about her day with his mother. He doesn’t want her to worry about the break in. The conversation ends a short time later. Afterwards, Matthew goes to work on Diana’s DNA.

Matthew compared the actual physical data. It revealed information that Miriam was unable to discover. They agree to run them again. Then, Matthew rushes back so he can tell Diana what they’ve discovered. She is told that they’ll always be one from this moment. He confesses that he loves her. Ysabeau is not happy. She admits she is not going to turn him away now though. She calls Diana her daughter. Their fight is now her fight. Gerbert decides to speak with his captive head again. He asks her if Diana is the witch from the prophecy. The head retells him the prophecy. Then, he is told about two witches. One is light and one is dark. Satu visits him a short time later. Ysabeau and Marthe discuss the upcoming fight. Ysabeau is convinced that Diana’s weakness will put them at risk. Matthew shows Diana her DNA samples.

She has every genetic marker in witches. It is confirmed that she should be able to cast spells. Matthew believes that her magic is waking up from a long sleep. He promises that they’ll face everything together. He wants to talk about Oxford. She doesn’t want to hear about it. Soon, they get romantic. Matthew tells her that she may not like what she sees. Diana wakes up beside of Matthew. She goes for a run.

She is grabbed and carried away by someone.

A Discovery Of Witches Review

This episode of A Discovery of Witches wasn’t as good as the previous ones. It has something to do with the simple fact that very little happened. Matthew learned about the DNA and decided to throw caution to the wind. Satu contemplated working with the others to bring down Baldwin. Matthew attacked Gillian for breaking into the lap. The episode was good, but it felt a little lower in quality than the previous four. We really didn’t learn anything that we didn’t already know. Nevertheless, the episode was pretty good and the series has been great so far.

This episode scores a 7.5 out of 10. Catch up with previous recaps of A Discovery of Witches now!
