TWD Finale Review: Conquer

TWD Benedict Samuel

When the show opens, we seen Morgan Jones (Lennie James) speaking to an unknown man, who is holding a gun. The man (Benedict Samuel) has a W on his head and speaks about the Indians. The man insists he is taking Morgan with him, but he may not be alive. A man emerges from the woods and attacks, but Morgan defeats them both. He places one of the men in a car and blows the horn several time. Next, Daryl and Aaron (Ross Marquand) scour through the woods, while Rick (Andrew Lincoln) awakes to Michonne watching over him. The pair discuss the situation, but disagree about their predicament, before some of the others join them.

TWD Morgan

Carol instantly belittles Rick for taking the gun. Glenn discusses Deanna’s move to try and get Rick removed from the community. Carol insists these people are children and they like stories. Rick sets a plan in motion in case the meeting goes wrong. Rick says he didn’t want this, but hit his limit and screwed up. Meanwhile, Gabriel is watched from afar by Maggie. Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) and Reg (Steve Coulter) approach and Maggie attempts to talk to them on Rick’s behalf. They don’t seem to be buying it and Maggie leaves disappointed.

Daryl and Aaron continue their trek, while Aaron describes a previous couple he brought in and had to kick out. He insists they drove them out pretty far, gave them food and left them. Carol speaks to Rick and insists what happened last night was good, but she gives Rick a gun. Daryl and Aaron spy on a man, who is wearing a red poncho. Nicholas spies on Glenn, after Rick finally emerges.

Maggie speaks to Glenn and attempts to convince him that everything will work out. Glen witnesses Nicholas climbing over the wall, before Gabriel heads out into the wilderness. Rick speaks to Carl and tells him to stay home. Rick insists he may have to threaten or kill, in order to make things right. Aaron and Daryl continue their hunt and stumble across a food factory. They agree to collect supplies for potential newcomers. Aaron collects an Alaskan license plate, before they open one of the food trailers, which is full of zombies and a trap. Daryl chain whips three zombies and kills them simultaneously, before locking themselves in a small van. Aaron finds a note suggesting it is a terrible ideal to stay put, but they don’t seem to have a choice.

Red Poncho TWD

Carol pays a visit to Pete and insists she could kill him. She begs for him to come at her, but he doesn’t budge. She insults him a little more, before leaving. Meanwhile, Glen follows Nicholas through the woods. Nicholas shoots Glenn in the shoulder, while Jessie receives a friendly visit from Rick. Morgan arrives and helps Daryl and Aaron make their escape. Aaron invites Morgan into Alexanderia, but he refuses. He shows them a note from Rick.

Afterwards, Abraham pays a visits to Tara and checks on her, but everyone seems to be angry at him. Eugene thanks Abraham for getting them this far, before apologizing. Finally, Gabriel returns with his shirt still clean and white. Gabriel partially closes the gate, while Nicholas continues to hunt for Glenn. The pair wind up fighting and zombies surround Glenn. Back at the compound, Michonne asks Rick, if he is ready. He finally admits to working everything out with Carol. He finally tells the truth about the guns and attempts to hand it over to Michonne, but she refuses to take it.

The Walking Dead Finale Gabriel

Rick heads out and discovers the gate open and blood on the ground. Gabriel heads to the chapel and discovers Sasha. She tells him she is losing her head and doesn’t know what to do, before asking for help. However, Gabriel insists he cannot help. Meanwhile, the group awaits for Rick’s arrival. Deanna starts it anyway. Nicholas walks through the woods, while Rick travels through Alexandria. Sasha tells Gabriel she thinks she wants to die and he agrees with her. He blames Bob’s death on Sasha, before she freaks out on him.

Rick is attacked by a zombie, while Michonne tells the group about living on the outside. Glenn emerges and attacks Nicholas. Two men kill the red poncho guy. Meanwhile, Glenn continues attacking Nicholas, before putting the gun to his head, while Sasha does the same with Gabriel. The two men lured the zombies back into the trailers. Rick finally arrives at the meet, while Glenn removes the gun. Maggie discovers Sasha holding Gabriel at gunpoint. Rick complains to the group about the gate being open, while speaking about the zombie that made it inside.

Walking Dead Finale Carol Pete

Rick attempts to convince the group that he can teach them to survive. Pete finally emerges and kills Reg with Michonne’s sword, before Abraham subdues him. Deanna tells Rick to kill Pete and he does, before Morgan arrives and speaks to Rick.

Review

Ultimately, the entirety of the season has been a total disappointment, with the finale exemplifying the show’s failures. There were some outstanding moments, which are overshadowed by drawn out chatter that mattered very little. Each of the action scenes were broken up into short five second portions, with cheesy and inconceivable segments scattered throughout. The collection of scenes at Alexandria feel forced and truly matter very little, if any at all.

Sadly, the finale fell well short of its mark, with nothing meeting a conclusion. Who or what was the main protagonist of the season? Surely, Pete wasn’t a formidable rival. In fact, his character was fairly laughable. Of course, the episode was filled with silly moments. Father Gabriel must’ve had Christ on his side, when he killed that zombie and blood spewed everywhere, yet his shirt remained unblemished. And Glenn never seems to fail, with his immense stupidity, but cat-like nine lives. One must suspend reality, in order to truly enjoy the mind-bogling circumstances surrounding his survival.

Still, the episode continues to depress. Nothing truly happened. Sure, I enjoyed some of the scenes, but nothing met a conclusion. Sadly, this was the worst season by far and the finale was anything, but impressive. A 5 out of 10 is very generous.

Couldn't agree more. It felt like Season Two all over again. Very drawn out, and accomplished little.

Yes! Felt the same way. Sadly, this used to be one of my favorite shows. The last few seasons have seemed to slipped more and more :(.
