Get Millie Black Review
Much of the first four episodes were filler, resulting in a bloated finale. Dozens of new characters and nearly as many side stories are added to create even more bloat. Matters only got worse when the episode stretched out over an hour. The extra 15 minutes of viewing time did nothing to secure a complete and satisfactory ending.
Millie broke more laws than a hardened criminal but avoided jail time. At least, she wasn’t praised a hero. The anti-LGBTQ rhetoric was nothing more than mere propaganda. Law enforcement agencies across the globe are open to hiring LGBTQ candidates. The finale deserves a 3.5 out of 10.

In the end I praise the series for giving an unflinching look at what life is like in Jamacia for a lot of people. I also praise the show for its portrayal of Jamaican culture, specifically the extensive and rich use of Jamaican Patois, without feeling overused or there just for the sake of it. It all felt organic. Jamacia is not white beaches unless you are weathy Americans or brits. For the res of everyone else it’s a tough place to live and I think it was great to show that. I mean beyond just the abject poverty and lack of jobs there’s social inequity and human rights issues.
As a crime drama it was mediocre. Millie Black was written as impetuous, and emotional person that gets “to close to her victims”, and this causes serious lapses in judgment. I get that’s a trope in police dramas but for Millie it crossed lines into just being a bit ridiculous and frustrating for the viewer, mainly me. Overall though it took on heady issues and was sufficiently gritty, dark as violent. It was for the most part a well made series. I can’t say I thought it was bad. I can say that its not without flaws.
