How to Get Away with Murder Fall Finale Review

In the fall finale of ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, we finally discover what really occurred on the night of the bonfire and the events leading up to the death of Sam Keating (Tom Verica).

Annalise (Viola Davis) and Sam argue over Sam knowing about Lila’s pregnancy. Anna threatens to call 911. Meanwhile, the students drive toward the Keating residence believing Rebecca (Katie Findlay) could be headed there. Anna comes clean to Sam about sleeping with Nate Lahey (Billy Brown). Sam puts his hands around Anna’s neck, as she urges him to kill her. He calls her a monster and says she is good for nothing, but rough sex. The fight ends and Anna leaves.

Rebecca watches, with the USB stick in her hand. Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King) shows up at the Keating place, with the trophy, as Rebecca enters. Rebecca rushes upstairs, as she urged Michaela to call Wes. The rush is on, as Sam bursts through the door, as Rebecca attempts to copy Sam’s hard drive to the USB stick.

Wes (Alfred Enoch) and the crew show up and find Sam beating on another door, which Rebecca is hid behind. After the computer has finished, she opens the door and attempts to leave. Sam attacks. After a scuffle, Sam is flung from the stairs. Everyone begins blaming everyone else for the murder. Sam wakes up and begins choking Rebecca. Wes smashes Sam in the head using the trophy.

Everyone is distraught, as Connor (Jack Falahee) throws up and Wes cleans the blood off of Rebecca. Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry) bangs on the door, as he tries to get his trophy back. As Bonnie (Liza Weil) drinks at the bar, a news report flashes on the television, which mentions the DNA dragnet to catch Lila Stangard’s killer.

After the students leave, Wes returns to retrieve the trophy, which could be used as evidence against him. Once he gets it, he apologizes for killing Sam. Laurel (Karla Souza) suggests cleaning the trophy and giving it back to Asher. Would this potentially frame him for the murder? Meanwhile, Anna visits Nate. He invites her in, as the students flip a coin and decide to go back for the body, despite not knowing that Wes manipulated the coin toss.

Laurel cleans off the trophy, before they wrap up Sam’s body in the carpet. Anna calls Sam, but obviously gets no answer. Meanwhile, Bonnie is headed to Asher’s place, while Anna and Nate have intercourse. Next, Bonnie completely takes control of Asher and the pair have sex. Anna leaves, while Nate is still asleep. Despite her phone calls, Sam still isn’t answering.

While Anna spills her guts over the phone, the students contemplate burning Sam’s body. As the evidence is burned, Michaela realizes she has lost her wedding ring. The body parts are all thrown in a dumpster. When the show returns, Wes wakes up to find Rebecca gone to get food. He crushes the thumb drive to help hide their presence at the Keating residence.

Meanwhile, Connor begins breaking down to Oliver (Conrad Ricamora). Next, Laurel confronts Frank (Charlie Weber) to try and get help to return the trophy to Asher. Meanwhile, Bonnie tells Asher that he must keep the sex a secret. Anna calls and asks Bonnie if she is with Sam. Annalise breaks down and wonders whether Sam has done something stupid. Bonnie rushes to Anna.

While the body parts are picked up by a trash truck, Michaela apologizes to Mary Walker (Lynn Whitfield) and gives her the signed prenup. Oliver questions Connor about his troubles, but Connor blows it off as being high on pills and a new drug. Next, everyone receives a text message from Bonnie to meet at the office. Asher arrives and Frank shows up with the trophy, which he refuses to give to Asher.

When Annalise enters, she mentions the police arriving and her husband’s affair with Lila. She tells them about the fight and her belief that Sam fled to avoid jail. The show flashes back to the point, where Wes retrieves the trophy. After Sam apologizes and says he is sorry, Anna tells him he not to be. She was in on it all along.

Review

Ah! Finally, we get to relive the death of Sam Keating. Of course, we’re still left with a lot of questions. What exactly was Annalise’s participation? Did she set it all up or was she just glad to see Sam out of the picture? While it was unsurprising that Annalise was involved, the way it came about was definitely intriguing.

While we experienced two unnecessary sex scenes, this was a great episode. At this point, I cannot wait for the rest of the series! This was the best episode yet and definitely deserves a 9.5 out of 10. If the show can maintain this level of quality, you can expect more and more people to jump on the bandwagon.
