As the episode opens, Nemo Dakkar (Shazad Latif) stares out the porthole. At the helm, Boniface (Pacharo Mzembe) voices concern about their position. Aboard a Dreadnought, Punch (Darren Gilshenan) looks over the side into the water for debris. Director Crawley (Damien Garvey) demands to know if the ship struck the Nautilus. Listening through a headphone, Mr. Haris (Socratis Otto) says there is a clicking noise. Aboard the Nautilus, Edward Cuff (Benedict Hardie) threatens Blaster (Kayden Price) with a knife. Humility Lucas’ (Georgia Flood) dog bites him. He kicks the dog, sending it running down the stairs. Humility scoops the dog up into her arms and moves closer to the porthole. The monster platters against the exterior of the porthole. Turan (Arlo green), Jiacomo (Andrew Shaw), and Boniface stare in horror. Nemo pushes the lever forward but the Nautilus doesn’t budge.
Crawley snatches the headphones away from Haris. Aboard the Nautilus, Turan suggests the monster is a giant squid. Blaster breaks free of Cuff’s grip. As the squid plasters its tentacles to the porthole’s exterior, Benoit (Thierry Fremont) fears it will collapse. Donning a diving suit, Nemo tells the others that he is going to try to scare it away. Humility fastens his helmet and oxygen tubing. Handing him a spear gun, Loti (Celine Menville) tells him to kill it. Benoit warns him against challenging the squid which is 10 times his size. A terrified Nemo opens the trap, emerges, and walks toward the monster. Benoit, Humility, and Loti watch through the porthole as Nemo is struck by a tentacle and lands on the ground. Nemo wakes to see the monster attach itself to the Nautilus. A whale grabs one of the monster’s tentacles. The giant squid flees. The whale swims past Nemo and away. A short time later, Nemo is safe inside the Nautilus. Suyin (Ling Cooper Tang) gives him a cup of seaweed tea.
Haris informs Crawley and Captain Youngblood (Jacob Collins-Levy) that all is quiet in the ocean. Aboard the Nautilus, Jiacomo loads up a torpedo. Nemo assures Benoit that the fish will be unharmed. Aboard the Dreadnought, Haris alerts Crawley of the Nautilus being located. Crawley orders Youngblood to pursue it. Aboard the Nautilus, Turan informs Nemo that the ship is leaving. Nemo insists they move now before the torpedo stops and the ship returns. Humility’s dog leads her to a compartment where Cuff is holding Blaster hostage. She promises his safety if he frees Blaster. He explains how he got stuck inside the Nautilus when Nemo and his crew took it. He claims to have not wanted to join the Company. Humility refuses to let him come to harm. Nemo says Cuff will be imprisoned until he can be freed. Jiacomo takes Cuff away. Nemo explains his planned route to Halvar. Boniface says it will take them a month to reach their destination. Kai (Tyrone Ngatai) complains about their dwindling water and food supplies. Jagadish (Chum Ehelepola) argues that he should have managed their resources better.
Crawley is irate when he learns Haris lost the Nautilus. Youngblood and Captain Billy Mallais (Luke Arnold) spot a torpedo in the ocean. Aboard the Nautilus, Nemo and Boniface determine their best destination. There is no money to buy supplies. Later, Humility, Boniface, Kai, Benoit, Nemo, Jagadish, Loti, and Ranbir (Ashan Kumar) travel on foot through the jungle where they encounter Le Rajah Blanc (Richard E Grant) and a group of soldiers. Blanc recognizes them as the escaped Kalpani prisoners. Boniface asks if they practice cannibalism. Blanc says no and denies being loyal to the Company. Putting his gun away, Nemo says they need supplies. Boniface and  Kai show them what they have to trade for food. Blanc offers them provisions for free because he is no friend of the Company. He says Nemo reminds him of The Maharajah of Bundlekund. Nemo tells him that he is his father. Blanc calls him Prince Dakkar and invites them to his palace. Nemo declines the offer. Humility tells him that Nemo is holding her hostage. The others watch as Humility and Blanc board a carriage. En route to the palace, Humility tells Blanc about her fiancé, Lord Algernon Pitt, a major shareholder of the Company. She expresses her desire to stay single and go to America to study engineering. He says a clipper will stop there on its way to Manila.
After a bath, Humility looks for a dress to put on. Amaal (Sophia Florence Lim) helps her dress in pants and a shirt. Loti barges into the castle. Humility realizes she is stuck with her. When two guards grab Loti’s shoulders, she slaps their hands. Aboard the Nautilus, Kai serves the crew a biscuit. Benoit voices concern about Blanc. Nemo says they need his provisions. At the palace, Blanc tells Humility that Nemo’s wife and daughter were killed when the Company seized his lands. When he returned from England, he was arrested and imprisoned.
Nemo and the crew escort Cuff to the village. Cuff pleads with him to let him join his crew. Jiacomo forces Cuff onto a wagon. Kai, Suyin, Jiacomo, and Boniface guard the Nautilus while Nemo and the others go to the palace. Upon arrival at the palace, they are greeted by Blanc. Cuff is thrown into the brig. Blanc shows Benoit his extensive library. At the docks, Suyin finds maggots in the food. Kai leaves to warn Nemo. At the palace, Blanc shows Nemo a photo of his father at an East India Company dinner. He claims the Company will inherit his father’s lands when he dies but only if there is no living heir. Nemo refuses to believe it. Blanc asks Humility to repair his broken ice maker. Blaster tells Nemo that his father is Lord Farley and shows him his family’s coat of arms. He was going to London to meet his father. Nemo goes to Blanc’s office to have another look at the photo. He stuffs it in his pocket when a telegraph arrives for the Company, offering Blanc a lot of money for the Nautilus and prisoners’ capture. Nemo draws his gun. Blanc stomps the floor and several soldiers burst into the room. Kai arrives and informs Jagadish of the tainted food.
Humility discovers Amaal and other children working in the boiler room. Nemo is thrown in the brig. Blanc says the Company is due to arrive soon and he will be transported back to Kalpani. Cuff convinces Blanc to release him. Humility takes the children, so they can eat. The musicians stop playing when they see the children. Jagadish warns her against bringing the children there. She says they were slaving away in the boiler room. Blanc arrives and asks what is going on. Humility takes the responsibility and asks him to treat them well. He puts dirt on Amaal’s pastry and demands she eat it. Amaal’s father, Jihan (Sri Sacdpraseuth) asks Blanc to punish him, not her. Blanc orders his men to restrain the children but they don’t move. Jagadish urges the laborers to join forces and fight back. Soldiers capture him and the others. Jihan says Jagadish is right and draws his gun. The other men reluctantly draw their weapons. Blanc vows to make sure they are executed, pushes their guns down, and walks to the house where he finds the soldiers playing cards with Loti. The soldiers hurriedly retrieve their guns and pursue Blanc.
Humility approaches as Cuff is killing a soldier. He gives her the key to Nemo’s cell before leaving. She races toward the brig. Jagadish, Jihan, and the other laborers and crew members come under fire. Jagadish distracts the soldiers while Blaster and Ranbir flee with the children. Jihan and the other laborers attack the soldiers. In the library, Benoit is engrossed in a book when he hears a scream. He rips out several pages and stuffs it into his pocket. While Jagadish and Jihan continue to fight against the soldiers, Humility rescues Nemo. Outside, the soldiers are beaten. Jihan and the other laborers charge the palace. Nemo and Humility come under fire as they try to escape. They race to the balcony. Nemo leaps, grabs a banner, knocks a soldier off his horse, and lands on the ground. He retrieves the soldier’s weapon. Humility follows his lead and lands on the horse. He joins her and they race away. Loti avoids capture by leaping into Kai’s arms. He steers the horses toward the dock.
Cuff informs Jagadish that Blanc is in cahoots with the Company before sticking a knife into the telegraph machine. Jagadish reads the telegraph and accuses Cuff of sending it to the Company. Cuff shoots him. Blanc orders Tengku (Sean Miguel Perez) to call in reinforcements. Humility and Nemo arrive at the docks with the soldiers in hot pursuit. A wagon is pushed into the road to block the soldiers. Nemo thanks Humility for rescuing him. Syuin informs him of the tainted food that Blanc gave them. Loti and Tai approach at a high speed and crash, losing all of the food. A Company ship is fast approaching. Nemo orders everyone to board the Nautilus. Ranbir says Jagadish hasn’t returned. At the palace, Blanc blames an injured Jagadish for the revolt. When Tengku says they must surrender, Blanc stabs him and enters a hidden door, with two soldiers and Jagadish.
Cuff tells Nemo that he tried to save Jagadish but he was captured. Humility convinces Nemo to let Cuff go with them. Ranbir urges Nemo to wait for him. Nemo says it is their only chance to escape and orders the crew to start the engine. The Dreadnought is fast approaching as the episode ends.
Nautilus Review
It becomes more apparent, the direction, Ai, editing, and cinematography were haphazardly done. Someone at Disney realized the series would be a dud and decided not to invest more resources into the production. It’s unfortunate AMC picked it up after Disney refused to release it.
The cast has some of the most prolific British talent what little good it does for the show. Disney may have washed its hands of the series but it has its name written all over it. One of the worst productions of 2024 and that’s saying a lot. It deserves a 3.5 out of 10.
