The Jetty Series 1 Episode 3 Recap

As episode three of The Jetty begins, Riz Samuel talks about the fact that most of her listeners are women. Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman) is there for the autopsy. Ember rushes to Sylvia (Amelia Bullmore) to ask how she knew she was in the lake. Sylvia claims she told her. She thinks it was Amy, but Ember has to tell her that it was Riz. Sylvia says Riz saw her ad and walked to talk to Amy. She couldn’t get into her space though. Ember explains that Riz was investigating Mack who was with Amy on the night of her disappearance. Ember worries because she left her messages. At the crime scene, Ember learns they have not recovered a phone or any other devices.

She yells at an officer for not wearing gloves. Ember goes home and watches the news with Hannah (Ruby Stokes). Morgan (Ralph Ineson) speaks to everyone about the high-profile death. Alpha Team is responsible for investigating Riz’s life. Bravo Team will be looking into Amy Knightly’s disappearance. Morgan says they’re going to work with the idea that Riz knew something about the case that they do not. Ember tells him that Riz was also investigating an active sexual predator. They argue about having a team on that. Morgan puts Embaer and Hitch (Archie Renaux) on that. Morgan and Ember interview Russell Knightly (Elliot Cowan). Russell is asked if Riz knew about his affair. He tells Morgan to ask Ember if she’s been spreading lies about him. Russell claims he was at home with Imogen at the time although he went for a walk to the ridge around night.

He didn’t know Riz was staying near the ridge. Ember returns to her desk and remembers her conversation with Blake (Peter Sullivan). She looks up his license plate, LGIO HPU. Ember gets Gregory Blake’s phone number. When she calls, a woman tells her that Blake isn’t home. Ember asks if he owns the vehicle. The woman tells her not to call again before using an alarm. Later, Hitch tells Ember that he listened to Riz’s podcast and learned that she uses a PI. He wonders if that could be Blake. Hitch hopes he might’ve remembered his registration number, but Ember insists she didn’t. They visit Miranda Ashby (Shannon Watson) at the hospital. Miranda wishes she’d gotten rid of the baby. She isn’t keeping her because the pub is no place for a baby. Ember asks if she knew Riz was trying to find out the father because he might’ve abused her.

Miranda insists he didn’t. Ember urges her to disclose the identity of the father. Miranda claims she doesn’t know who he is. She says he likes having a good time. Ember goes home and checks on her daughter who is sleeping. Troy Underwood messages Hannah and promises to delete the photo. Then, they run into protests for Riz. They go to the school to speak to the students about Riz. The girls curse the police. Ember tries to convince the girls to give them information. She speaks to Hannah’s friends who claim she is ill. Chloe (Nina Barker-Francis) tells Ember she’s sorry about the photo. She hopes Hannah managed to get her to delete it. Ember checks on Hannah at home. She asks if she and Troy visited Riz to ask about the photo. Hannah asks if she thinks her dad killed Amy and she killed Riz. Ember apologizes her.

At the station, Ember listens to the interview with Riz’s source. Morgan decides to dial the number and figure out who the phone belongs to. Ember notices Hitch picking up her phone. Morgan knows it is hers. Next, Morgan speaks to the media and promises to catch Riz’s killer. Ember sees a girl walk past outside so she decides to approach her. She tells the girl she saw her arguing with Liam (Arthur Hughes). Ember knows that she’s the girl on the recording. They get into a vehicle and the girl, Rosie (Niamh Blackshaw), shows Ember the bruises on her neck. Rosie says Brad was just looking out for his brother. Instead, it was Liam because she told Riz about him. Rosie refuses to make a statement because she’s worried about what they’ll do. Ember asks if she’s still seeing him. Rosie says she’s not a grass before leaving.

Ember makes Hitch keep an eye out while she goes into the Ashby residence. She’s eventually confronted by Liam. Ember asks who Miranda’s baby is. Liam believes she’d like it to be young Ellis. He goes on to say there’s been that many darts thrown at the dartboard so it’s hard to know who hit the bull’s eye. Liam denies doing anything with Miranda who is his niece. He believes Rosie has been spreading that rumor. Ember arrests him on the suspicion of the murder of Riz. Liam tries to stop her. Ember wants him to tell her a story she can believe. He admits he got a little rough with Rosie, but he doesn’t think she’ll press charges. Liam claims Rosie became convinced he was seeing Miranda. Liam isn’t interested in Rosie and hasn’t had sex with her.

He confesses that he can’t get hard. Ember asks why he’d get mad that Rosie spoke to Riz. Liam explains that liars get believed. He goes on to say some girls like having a nice time and others hate themselves. Ember believes he’s their pimp. She takes his phone and sees naughty pictures on there. Ember questions whether they’re legal. It appears one of them is Hannah. When Ember confronts Sylvia, her mom says Hannah sent them to Troy who sent them to someone else. Ember explains she could arrest them, but she’d also have to arrest her daughter. If she believes Mack was involved in Amy’s disappearance, she could tell the police what she knows. They argue about Ember’s handling of her daughter. Sylvia claims Ember only sees other people’s failings.

Ember goes to the school to confront Troy who claims he only sent the picture to one person. Ember deletes it from his phone and says he wants the information for anyone who may have the photos. Ember goes to Sylvia to tell her the photos have gone to half the year group. He’s made her permanently naked. Sylvia suggests it’d be better for Hannah not to think all men are utterly toxic and that she’ll spend a lifetime getting burnt. She might need comfort instead of a cure. Ember comforts her daughter. Hannah believes Troy likes her. She asks if Chloe told on her. Ember claims they defended her secret like a nuclear code. Ember looks at Amy’s file and notices the name “Joan Owens” and “Caitlin Owen”. When Morgan interrupts, the picture of Amy and Malachy falls.

Ember covers it with her foot while speaking to Morgan about her activities. In a flashback, Mack (Tom Glynn-Carney) takes Amy and Caitlin to the boat hut and introduces them to Joe. Caitlin is asked if she’d do anything for Amy. She says she wouldn’t do anything Amy says. Amy and Mack play around. Joe tells them to get a room. Amy gets upset and walks away. Ember visits Joan to talk to her about Riz. Martin (Rick Warden) insists Ember won’t get anything from her. Ember asks about Caitlin. Joan claims she’s dead. She says they’re all dead now including Amy. Martin says she gets confused. Caitlin decided her life would be better without them. Joan says she told Kitty it would all come back to haunt her. Ember speaks to Joan in private.

Joan says she told Caitlin to lock the Amys and Danielles in the bottom drawer. Men can’t stand that women can love without them. Joan says that’s why he killed Caitlin. She claims it was Malachy. She keeps saying his name over and over. In a flashback, Joe and Caitlin sit outside. Joe tells her that Amy is messed up in the head. Even Malachy knows it but he’s trapped. Back at the station, Ember hears the team talking about Malachy Granger. Morgan says Malachy and others are persons of interest in Amy’s disappearance because they lived within a two-mile radius of her and had convictions or cautions for gender-based crimes. Hitch notices that Ember is acting oddly. Hannah calls Ember to say there’s a man in the house. He arranges to meet Ember at the station car park.

Hannah tells her the man is gone. Ember waits for the man at the car park. Blake gets in and tells her not to call his house. Riz left him a message saying her laptop had been snatched and she was going to follow its GPS tracker. Blake plays a recording he found on Riz’s iCloud account. They hear Riz confronting the thief before being choked. Blake won’t take it to the police because it’s best for the police not to know about him. Malachy was on Riz’s list of suspects in Amy’s disappearance. Two days after she arrived in town, the boat hut Malachy owned at the time burned down. Blake tells her to go home and tell her daughter what her dad might’ve done. Then, she should go to the police and tell them. Otherwise, they will find out and they’ll send her down. Her daughter will have no one. Ember says they don’t know anything.

Blake says there was a bone fragment. He assumes Ember put it in for evidence, but she says it’s in the locker. In a flashback, Caitlin finds a blood trail and a knife. She asks Malachy what he did to Amy before he takes the knife from her. In the present, Ember tells Sylvia what she knows and how she could end up in jail. Ember says she can’t let it go. She goes to the pub where she speaks to Sheena and tells her she has to face it. Liam tells them to get her a drink. Hitch tells her that they know about Malachy. He urges her to tell Morgan everything. Arj (Matthew McNulty) walks in as Liam keeps poking fun at Ember. Ember alleges she’s searching for a needle among needles. If she were a man in this town, she’d want everyone to know she doesn’t sleep with children. Ember urges them to take a swab and prove they didn’t get Miranda pregnant.

Arj tries to calm her. Ember yells at everyone and admits she’s angry. She tries to get Hitch to give a sample. He refuses and says she’s making a fool of herself. Ember curses them and walks away. Hitch follows her outside just as the police arrive. He apologizes to Ember. Sylvia tells her she had no choice. She urges her not to give them the satisfaction of wrestling her into the squad car. Ember is arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The Jetty Review

This episode of The Jetty was just as bad as the two before it. The series has become more unbelievable as it drags on and the characters have become less likable. The podcast dialogue doesn’t really work at the beginning and ending of each episode or add anything to the show. Considering the fact that everything in The Jetty has been done before, it feels suspiciously like the script was generated using AI.

The registration plate bit was pretty humorous unless we’re to believe that Ember would have laser focus and a perfect memory despite the pressure she’s currently under. The visit to Joan is something we’ve seen thousands of times before this. There is no one to cheer for here including Ember who may be the least sympathetic character in the entire show.

The brutish attempt to make the character a strong woman just doesn’t work because it belittles everyone else and ends up making the character obnoxious. Even the casting in this was done to make a political statement, one that’s been done repeatedly. The best thing about The Jetty has been the rewarding moment at the 58 minute mark when the credits finally appear and there’s a sigh of relief that another installment has concluded.

This episode was shockingly skippable so it scores a 3.5 out of 10. Recaps of The Jetty can be found on Reel Mockery here. Find out how to support our independent site at this link. Learn more about advertising with us here. Discuss this show and others at the Reel Mockery Forum.
