The episode opens with Frank McDonnell (Francis Magee) identifying Elliot Stanley (Janie Dornan) as Eugene Cassidy. Cocking his handgun, Elliot questions why they share the same name. Frank insists he put down his weapon but he refuses. Frustrated, Elliot demands to know why he was abducted. Frank warns that his people will come for him and Helen Chambers (Danielle MacDonald) if anything happens to him. Elliot asks if he is threatening Helen. Frank says Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouere) can stop the McDonnell and Cassidy family conflict. Elliot flees.

While holding Helen at gunpoint, Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill) apologizes. Helen tries to convince him to let her go. Slater’s wife’s corpse is on the floor. He admits to keeping Mary’s body in the basement after she died of colon cancer because he couldn’t let her go. Helen pleads with him to not make the situation worse by killing her. Slater says she reminds him of Mary in many ways. She reminds him that he has done nothing wrong. After confiscating her phone, he restrains her to the stove with handcuffs.

Niamh informs Patrick (John Cronin) of the McDonnell family abducting Elliot. Patrick denies her request for help in finding Elliot. Getting in his face, she accuses him of siding with Frank. She asks what would his father think. He says her status is not what it used to be. Outside the business, she calls Tomasz to set up a meeting.

Elliot tries to call Helen multiple times. He leaves her a voicemail asking her to let him know if she is all right. Later, he receives a visit from Ethan Krum (Greg Larsen) asking for Helen. Elliot says she was out all night. Ethan sarcastically asks if he slept while Helen is missing. Elliot claims to have been abducted. Ethan challenges him to a duel to win Helen’s heart and forgiveness. Elliot suggests his abductor probably has her. Ethan admits to tracking Helen’s phone and has her last location.

Slater assures Helen that no one will ever hear her calls for help because of the thick walls. She admits to seeing the report from the DNA collected from the crime scene. He says Elliot didn’t need to know. She pleads with him for a glass of water. He reluctantly unlocks the handcuffs and tosses the key on the table. She retrieves a soda can tab. Giving her a glass of water, he breaks down sobbing while talking about Mary. When she asks what Mary would think of him holding her hostage, he brandishes his weapon and demands she not talk about Mary. He fastens the handcuff to the stove handle before leaving. She utilizes the soda can tab to loosen the stove handle.

Niamh rallies a group of people to entice them to search for Elliot. Tomasz urges her to hide from the McDonnell family at the Abbey House. She tells him that she made a vow to never return there.

Lena Pascal (Victoria Haralabidou) demands Donal McDonnell (Diarmaid Murtagh) to bring her Elliot. Orla McDonnell (Ness Matthews) says Elliot will be turned into Frank once he is found. Lena assures her that he would not be in Ireland if it were not for her letter. Orla says they are no longer useful to each other. Lena angrily walks away. Vowing to kill Elliot, Donal offers to let her watch. She warns that Elliot is dangerous.

Elliot and Ethan track a signal to find Helen’s phone smashed in the woods. He calls Frank demanding to know what he did with Helen. Frank denies having her but Elliot refuses to believe it. Ethan checks the tracker to determine where she was previously. Elsewhere, Frank tells Fergal McDonnell (Mark McKenna) about Elliot’s call. Fergal denies knowing where Helen is at. Frank questions how Elliot escaped the island with such a strong current. Fergal claims to have no idea.

Slater purchases duct tape, a shovel, rubber gloves, and rope. The cashier (Louis McCartney) asks if he plans to kill someone. Giggling, Slater says yeah. Elsewhere, Niamh and Tomasz visit the Abbey House to find blood on the floor. He reminds her that she ordered them to stay away from there. After filling a pan with water, she frustratingly scrubs up the blood.

Elliot and Ethan track Helen’s phone to the last known location. Inside the house, Helen continues to work diligently at loosening the screws when she spots movement outside. She calls for help. Deidre (Alama Kickham) tells Elliot and Ethan that Slater is out. Fiona Slater (Emer Casey) invites them inside to eat. Elliot tries to explain that Helen’s phone was tracked to her residence. Fiona believes they are hungry detectives. She admits to wishing Slater had married. Slater returns home with a shovel in his hand. Helen frees her handcuffs. Elliot says they are looking for Helen. Slater claims Helen sought his help in finding Elliot. She bangs on the door. Ethan detects a strange smell. Slater blames the odor on the pipes. She bangs on the door and screams for help. Elliot and Ethan leave. Slater enters the basement to find Helen wearing his deceased wife’s dress and wig. She suggests he have some pork and beans and listen to “Piano Man” by Billy Joel. Pleasantly surprised, he says before leaving to get supplies.

Golden Sliotar Pub – Elliot and Ethan ask a barman (Justin Daniels Anene) if he remembers Helen being there. The barman says Derek (Phelim Drew) was working yesterday. Tiote’s man (Sodiz Ajibola Abiola) calls Tiote to inform him of Elliot being at the pub. Tiote notifies Frank.

Helen prepares pork and beans. Slater tells her how Mary came up with the recipe. He promises to release her if they can work something out. She accuses him of abducting her. He assures her that it is his first abduction. She knows right from wrong. He asks how did it work with Elliot being a Cassidy. She contemplates utilizing the knife until he grabs his gun. He convinces her to give it to him.

Golden Sliotar Pub – Derek enters the bar and pulls a gun on Elliot. The barman asks him to put the gun away. Breaking a bottle, he threatens Elliot with the broken glass. A fight ensues between Elliot and Tiote’s man, Derek, and McDonnell’s thug (Gavan O’Connor-Duffy). Sean (Brian Robinson) enters the pub and joins the fight. Elliot and Ethan flee to the car. With Ethan unable to drive because of an injured arm, Elliot takes the wheel. While they struggle with the steering wheel lock, Sean pulls Elliot out of the car and threatens to shoot him in the scrotum. Ethan activates a loud alarm. Elliot head butts Sean. They flee in the car.

Slater enjoys Helen’s pork and beans. He tells her about proposing to Mary. He claims Elliot has a ring for her. She admits to being confused about it when she saw it. He puts on “Piano Man” and invites her to dance. She reluctantly agrees. While they dance, he lays his head on her shoulder. Grabbing the knife, she prepares to stab him but changes her mind when he confesses to love her. He breaks down sobbing.

Ethan’s car runs out of gas. A short time later, Sean, who is mute, pulls up in an SUV and offers to take Elliot to Niamh. Elliot reluctantly accepts the offer.

Slater unlocks the basement door for Helen. He questions why Helen did not utilize the knife. She suggests it has to do with her experience with broken men. He tells her to go. She warns that the abduction must be reported. He says as soon as Mary is buried, he will turn in himself. He tells her that Elliot came there looking for her. She asks him to turn himself in before leaving. Fiona says she wishes Slater married. He tells her about Mary.

Sean takes Elliot to the Abbey House. Niamh embraces him. She tells him that his brother, Joe was found barely alive at Lough Tamar. She claims Frank’s son is responsible. He receives a call from Helen at the motel. Niamh embraces him before he leaves. Later, Elliot arrives at the hotel to find Helen waiting for him. She tells him that a DNA report revealed a first-generation match between him and Fergal. He says Fergal helped him escape the island. She says he is Elliot’s father. The episode ends.

 

The Tourist Review

Slater’s story is far from unique. His strange way of dealing with his wife’s death is to keep her corpse in the basement. The corpse is unbelievably cringeworthy, what little is shown of it.

The fight scenes are pretty bad which is only worsened by the subpar (shaky) cinematography.

Everything seems a bit too easy. Helen and Elliot find themselves in a pickle but with little effort, they find a solution. One example is Elliot’s escape from the distillery museum.

The series is tainted by weak writing and a low budget. Jamie Dornan is far too good for this series. It wouldn’t be shocking if Elliot
